Money Awarded?

Recommended Posts

Hi guys,

Quick question I was hoping someone on here could help with. I'm playing in the League of Ireland and my club is in a pretty bad state financially. What really helped us last season was that after every round in the Euro Cup we got give money (Around €100,000). And then a larger sum once we were eliminated. This year in the Champions Cup we get no such funds. Do ye know if this is normal for Champ Cup qualifying rounds?

Thanks for the reply. I still find this strange. Getting money after every Europa league qualifier and not CL. At least it's not a bug.

Yep, just a slightly weird UEFA decision. I believe you should start seeing money come in if you reach the Playoff Round.

Well done. If that was the Champions League playoff you'll have the Europa League group stage now too.

*Into the black is what I should have said. Yup got another couple of million for that too. Great day for Irish football. ;)

Haha. See if you can do any better than Shamrock Rovers managed in the Europa groups. I still remember the scenes when they briefly went 1-0 up at White Hart Lane...

It was unbelievable. We had a house party to mark the occasion at the time, even though none of us were Rovers fans. It's not looking good so far. Fixture pile up is mental too. So basically been playing a weakened team in Europa League so as to focus on the title race.

I just hope the club don't go the way Rovers did after — they haven't challenged in the league since.

Yeah, surprising that - I thought the Europa money would've helped them?

For a club of that size it probably cost them more to compete in the competition than any prize money they received.

They're a well run club. Lovely stadium and a B team now. I think it was more a combination of Sligo and Dundalk coming so good (and to a lesser extent Cork City) and managers and players leaving. I think they'll have a good year this year. The league is very competitive at the moment, which is a good thing — also I think they made nice money off it.

I'm actually really pissed off at the game at the moment. Just beat Napoli at home 2-1. And it wasn't a smash and grab. Went toe to toe, shaded possession and had basically same shot count. Got a message about fans being happy and all but it all feels a bit shallow. This should be one of the greatest moments in the history of the Club. I go to Cork matches and they still talk about the time the Club played Bayern in 1991 and drew, with David Barry scoring a great goal. Yet the whole response to this seems a bit flat. I knocked out Hearts in a Europa League qualifier in older version of FM and it seemed like a much bigger deal — mentioned whenever I or the Club had a news story about them.
