danthemanwhocan
Has anybody tried a tactic that relies solely on the use of player instructions and player roles? I thought I might try just giving the squad a framework: formation, roles; and then specialise that with only player instructions.

Cleon
I'm not sure why people keep bringing this question up, it's like you believe you have to use team/individual instructions without any real reason. You should use them to create particular styles of play, change the direction of a game or to get the current roles to act differently from what they offer. Use them as tools and because there is a reason to use them rather than just because.......... The impression we get from users posting in this forum is they always look to use them at every opportunity rather than using them as tools to refine things or make roles act in a specific behaviour that they don't currently allow. It's quite alarming really, that people seem to think they have to use any kind of instructions constantly and without reason.
danthemanwhocan
I think that is fair enough Cleon. I think it came from an interview in FM when I purchased Zivkovic for Villa; they asked if I was going to change my tactics to accommodate his arrival. Then I thought to myself, no he will have his own set of instructions within my shape- so when he comes on he will provide me something different. In a potential answer to your semi rhetorical question- I assume, would be; maybe we are all too set in a certain way. For example, massive push to play possession based football. So we assume that we need a "team" instruction of shorter passing and have everyone try to fit that mold. It would be nice to see how many people buy multiple different types of players, and not x amount that fit in to the passing, fast, technical gifted players. If you see what I mean- its 1:45am here, haha! I suppose its nice in some ways to know that I have had a mini tactical revelation.
