Need help in Europe

Recommended Posts

In my Ajax save I've got two familiar tactics that help me comfortably against any Dutch side, but I keep struggling against bigger teams in Europe, especially in away games.

Details about my players can be found in this thread : http://community.sigames.com/showthread.php/442526-FM16-Ajax-Amsterdam-Building-a-dynasty-of-youth?p=10576035#post10576035 (Post #63 and onward)

In domestic matches I use 4-2-3-1 or 4-1-2-3 control, flexible formation, CF for striker in both formation (Milik or Zivkovic). Weakness of the squad is obviously lack of defensive midfielders (van de Beek could be used as regista or DLP, not really DMC or A). Most defensive midfielder is probably Serero (I use him as BBM, although he too is more suitable for AP role).

Yeah - you'll need a good Counter or defensive format for team >= to your own teams abilities - this engine won't let you control teams away from home that are superior to you and neither should it.....I've personally posted about this all over the place - try and find one of them or there are various other posts covering how to counter attack.

Nice thread you linked to.

Like mentioned above, there's no one tactic that's going to work for every squad. More than likely you'll want to be more conservative but that being said you still need to play to your strengths and adjust as the match progresses. I see it's still early in your career so it's not that unrealistic if you're struggling to big sides away. Not saying that in a harsh way, just that it *should* be hard. Best advice is just set up a more conservative tactic, maybe test it when you're away or have a big enough gap in the Eredivisie/cup/so on.

Well, one of the problems is that I've got not good enough chances to test this kind of tactic and even if I do, familiarity is not what it should be. 3-4 games at most in CL group are the ones where I should use it, but in Eredivisie I've found that going for my strengths (ball control, keeping possession and looking for chances up front) work for any other team, home and away.

In next Summer I'll try to arrange my own friendlies (I usually leave it to assman) and try to agree some big teams to play with me and so test a few defensive formations.
