alexhcfc
When in possession of the ball, Spurs' midfielders split. Dembele/Carroll/whoever else goes central and supports the forwards, but Eric Dier drops between the two centre backs and plays as a third centre back. When out possession or in possession in their own half, he seems to be alongside his midfield partner in a 4-2-3-1 formation. I wondered if it is possible to replace this in FM16, and if so, how? Thanks in advance

Ghents
Sounds like HB and DM-S in a deep 4231 is what you're looking for.
Midnight Rob
I thought in Poch's system that Dier and Dembele actually played a holding role but go wider in possession to cover the attacking full backs.
2calvin
I thought in Poch's system that Dier and Dembele actually played a holding role but go wider in possession to cover the attacking full backs. Dier in particular goes to RCB, Alderweireld to the centre to OP, try the 4231 wide but move the RCM to RDM and use half back. You won't get it EXACTLY, but until they add the ability to move players exactly how you want in relation to ball position, this is the best imo
jeffery5509
I'm a spur fan and i am creating something you want to do also, i found that in pochettino's system, walker and rose goes up really high to support offence, lamela and chadli ( eriksen ) sits narrow to move the ball around in midfield, the CBs will stay very wide to almost playing like FB defend in FM terms, so i was currently trying on 51DM31 playing dier at the central CB with stopper duty, walker rose on wb position playing CWB, Dembele at dm playing dm support, eriksen rpm, chadli lamela cm attack and kane as dlf. Play control and very wide, i guess dier wikl be what you want, but too defensive for spurs, so i m still working on it ( rookie in fm, the best i can do is keep trying )
Orikoru
The closest to Spurs' actual shape is probably this: Kane CF(s) Alli AM(a) Eriks Lamela WP(s) W(a) Demb. Dier Reg(s) HB(d) Rose Vert. Alder Walker Rose and Walker should be wing backs, or full backs on attack really. Both centre backs are kind of ball-playing centre backs in real life (and favoured roles in-game) but I would only have one of them as a BPD in FM. I haven't tested this set-up in game either, I'm just throwing it out there as my best stab at how we play.
Vizzini
Would'nt Dembele and Eriksen get in the way of each other?
Orikoru
Would'nt Dembele and Eriksen get in the way of each other? Maybe. I did say I hadn't tested it so I don't know if it would work or not. I struggled to think of the correct role for Dembele though. Regista is probably close to correct, or maybe he's a box-to-box midfielder, but then you have to shift him up one to MC to use that role. Regista combines aggressive ball-winning and playmaking somewhat like the way Dembele plays in real life. I don't know, he's a tough guy to pin down. marsh82
Issue with getting CBs to split is the presence of FB's, even on attacking, preventing the wide spread. If you move the FB's UP to the WB slot and use a HB ANYWHERE in the 3 DM slots, the CBs will split wide. I have even used a pair of WBs with a pair of HBs in the middle, meaning both the "Dier" and "Dembele" drop deeper and make a "4" between the wide spread CBs when in possession deep in our own half, but move forward to support the midfield and attack when moving forward. Its not an ideal system in FM as a long ball over the top to a central striker will mean that your CBs are running diagonally back and usually, this results in spaces opening up. Mojam
As a HB hes brilliant, i am currently managing spurs and he is superb in that role.
xantheose
The closest to Spurs' actual shape is probably this: Kane CF(s) Alli AM(a) Eriks Lamela WP(s) W(a) Demb. Dier Reg(s) HB(d) Rose Vert. Alder Walker Pretty much my title winning formula. I think Dembele's role is more like a CM (S) (in that case I think it's DM on Support), I remember he had very good performances when I played him like that. Lamela's more like a WM (S). If you use Dier as HB, I think you can use both Fullbacks as Wingbacks for Width, but I noticed that Walker is not that adventurous going forward compared to Rose. Or it might just be my opinion. Maybe. I did say I hadn't tested it so I don't know if it would work or not. I struggled to think of the correct role for Dembele though.
