cornishlee
So, just for my own amusement, I edited one of my new-intake youth players to have Hafthor Bjornson's height and weight - 205cm, 175kg. To make sure he was a useful presence and not just an amusing lump in the dressing room though, I also set his strength and natural fitness to 20. Here's the thing. It's now November (in game) and that weight has plummeted to 87kg. Ignoring real-life issues that might arise from losing so much weight in so short a space of time though, I'm curious - FM obviously seems to have an algorithm for correcting player weight to levels it deems acceptable. How does this work and why? Is 87kg the maximum acceptable weight for a player in game? I notice that 'The Beast' Akinfenwa, although 24cm shorter than my player, is 86kg. Does my player still have another kilo to lose to make him acceptable for the game? My massive physical specimen of a centre back has transformed into a lanky streak. forameuss
There'll be some code in there that governs how players grow in terms of height and weight as a matter of course - youth players come in and they're affected by that. It would follow that throwing a freak in there from the other end of the scale would see changes in the other direction. Perhaps each player has a "finished" weight when they're "born". Usually that means they build up to this, but you've gone the other way, so he shrinks to it. Just theorising anyway, could be something completely different. cornishlee
Interesting theory - players do, occasionally, grow in FM but of course there's no field for the potential when editing these stats, as there are for others. By way of an update, I've noticed that my heaviest player at the club is the 90kg Per Mertasacker. At three kilos lighter and seven centimetres taller, I think 'freak' is definitely the right word to describe my creation.
demodave
Interesting that using the NHS calculator, technically Akinfenwa is classed as overweight using the BMI index using those attributes. The stats you used for Hafthor is Obese, 87kg puts Hafthor well within the healthy range. It does make for an interesting question on how FM calculates weight, especially considering Akinfenwas build and weather FM can replicate that. BMI is also an extremely ridiculous measurement to use, particularly when it comes to athletes. The vast majority of rugby players and similar will be classed as obese (at least) on the scale. I really do think there's an interesting question here as to what's going on behind the scenes as to height/weight calculations. For those interested, I've used FM Genie to have a look at my game in more detail and can reveal that the heaviest player in my game is 196cm Belgian U21 international Obbi Oulare at 96kg. (He starts the game at Club Brugge, if you were wondering).
