Guest
Not always, is this a real life player or a newgen?
sjewitt
newgen, in real life if you are born in london you don't need a WP right? isn't it an oversight in game?
FrazT
Country of birth is not necessarily nationality- depends also on the nationality status of the parents, particularly the father AFAIK
Guest
Fraz is correct, parents could have been in the UK temp visa, in that case any child born is also on a temp visa & does not automatically become a UK national. Not sure if this is intentional or a bug that happens to have real life explanation.
sjewitt
he speaks fluent English aswell, so it seems abit strange, thanks for explanations.
Welshace
Is he showing dual nationality? If not, he doesn't have a british passport and will need a WP. Simple as that really
sjewitt
no he's not, i'm just wondering if it's a real life thing or just in game? if you are born in a country would you still need a WP? different countries i guess.
FrazT
What I posted in #4 is relevant to real life as well as the game.
cris182
Does his actual in game nationality maybe only allow him to have one citizenship? I know some countries don't allow dual citizenship. Of course there are many londons, Was this definitely the UK London and not Canada for example? (Might explain the language)
Cavenagh
To terribly simplify, the Americas practice Jus Soli which is where citizenship is conferred by place of birth. The rest of the world uses Jus Sanguinis. This is where the nationality of the parents confers the child's citizenship (duel or solo). Countries using Jus Soli also use Jus Sanguinis. There's many variations and conditions, residency requirements etc but in general, outside of the Americas, place of birth doesn't give citizenship.
