Walkingmelon2
Is it better to send a high potential young player out on loan to get first team football, or should you leave them in your Under 20's/21's then tutor them also giving them access to your excellent training and youth facilities? Guest
The answer depends on how close they are to being reedy for the senior squad, the standard of your training facilities & coaches compared to the club you're considering loaning them to, the standard of football being played in the league you're considering loaning the to, how they wil be used while out on loan & of course the player's personality. Basically there is no guaranteed right or wrong answer, each loan must be assessed on its own merits.
ArranoBeltza
Being a perennial manager of Athletic Club, youth development is something I've generally gotten pretty good at (I like to think). What I usually do is promote my best youngsters and make them available for the youth team almost immediately. At the same time, I try to get them a good tutor and bring them into a few games here or there as a sub. Depending on the needs of my team and how they've developed, I'll loan them after a season or two. For other ones (good, but not the best), I'll leave them in the youth team for a season or two while trying to tutor them, before either promoting them as I do with the brightest or moving them to the "B" team (obviously a unique thing for Spanish clubs) or loaning them out. Walkingmelon2
Ok cheers lads, will just put him on the bench as he's only 17 and can play comfortably in Serie B.
South-Side
You need to have a combination of loan and own team training/playing chances. In my Millwall save i had a prospect in my first youth intake which turned out to be a wonderkid in 4-5 years. And i didn't commit to one or the other. I had him for a time at the club, started him in the capital cup/FA for the first three years but i always loaned him to League 1 and 2 teams for some months (3-6). Then in year 4 and 5 i always rotated him in my playing side and he grew up to be a wonderkid. On the down side , i took a Serbian prospect (almost 17 years old) which didn't get a permit and i had him loaned to a Bulgarian affiliate (Lokomotiv Plovdviv). He got the playing time that he wouldn't get in my side 30+ matches a season, was a 4.5* prospect and when he finally got a permit after 3 years wasn't even a 4* prospect. He was older and i could see he was still developing but much slower then he would have been if I was able to have him at my team and loan him out to some english lower league teams. He turned out to be a disappointment a substitute player at best. Guest
There is no proof that your Serbian lad would have turned out any better had you been able to loan him to an English side, as a young player it is equally or maybe even more likely that your scouts overrated his potential. That's the problem with this type of question, even with hindsight there is not definitive right or wrong answer.
mark1985
Bearing in mind I usually play in leagues where the B Team plays in the lower leagues, my usual method is along the lines of: Season 1 - youth team, paired with a tutor Season 2 - mix of youth team and B Team (and coming off the bench in early round cup games), paired with a tutor Season 3 - B Team (starting in early round cup games and coming off the bench in league games), paired with a tutor Season 4 - On loan to a team (hopefully an affiliate) with good youth/training facilities and good standard of football (lower than first team, higher than B team) where the player will play the majority of games Season 5 - In first team This is a general guide, and depending on the player and how he develops he may break into the first team earlier or later. Walkingmelon2
Since my Juve squad is quite short in numbers i've been giving my three high potential players lots of game time from the bench and occasional starts so im hoping for good growth. Has anyone any idea how good Bazoer from Ajax can be? Bought him for 15 million and seems to be developing quickly.
