First time crossing

One of the major frustrations I have with my tactic at the moment is that so many times my wingers/full backs get to the crossing position by the byline and delay the cross only for the opposition to close them down and then they end up playing the ball off the defender for a corner. I'd much rather them just get the ball in first time (not necessarily hitting crosses from deep/early as the instruction allows you to do) but simply just to take one touch and then whip it in.

How is this possible?

In that case, your only options (other than telling them to cross earlier) are to increase tempo (spend less time on the ball) or mentality (take more risks generally). Also, make sure you have players set to provide targets in the penalty area so they see an actual crossing opportunity as soon as possible.

I've tried increasing the pace and risks but that doesn't seem to help...

It is worse for me when they are inside the penalty area, a striker waiting to pounce completely unmarked in the penalty box, only for the wide player/fellow forward deciding to shoot from a really silly and unrealistic angle and it always goes tamefully wide to the near post. This has happened on practically every version with every side with a variety of different players for as long as I can remember. Someone from SI will tell me it is down to poor decision making. A player would need to have -5 for decision making to make those kind of decisions, surely?

i think this might be linked to a bug in ME, my wingers/fb will wait till they are taken out or loose the ball. I have tried changing everything, nothing works, its worse down the right side

Same happening to me! Im managing Barcelona and I see ALOT of this and im pretty sure players like Messi Neymar and Suarez dont have bad decision making.

Is there any solution to this? The only way I can take my team to the next level is by getting quicker crosses in but each time the ball goes wide, they dally on it until the defender closes them down and sends it out for a corner. Surely this can't be a bug? But I've tried quicker play, deeper crosses and creative play but none of it has changed this.

How can I change my tactics to solve this?

You using retain possession? That reduces crosses for wide players.

This is an incredibly annoying quirk of the ME and I'd guess it's a nightmare for SI to actually fix easily, same as the general crossing bug. If they manage to get players squaring the ball instead of shooting from that position, then it would result in loads more goals and the knock-on effect on the overall game stats would be huge and they'd need to balance that somewhere else.

No, no retain possession, just mixed passing and with one winger and one inside forward who are instructed to aim into the middle but in reality take an age to do so.
