*** CMS Awards 2004 - Second Round Voting

Raptor

Recommended Posts

Well, the first round is out of the way, and I have to say the turnout was a bit disappointing. I guess that's typical of the year 2004 itself.

Nevertheless, we have our finalists in the 23 categories, and they're in the post below this one. Let's send CMS off in style guys. icon_smile.gif

This second round runs till midday (GMT) on Friday, 7 January 2005.

Finalists are displayed in alphabetical order (some might look out of place because I can't get "s to be displayed while using HTML code), and do not reflect the order of first round voting. Results from the nominating round will not be made public until the entire process is over.

Again, please send your votes to raptor@home.nl and claim them in this thread, otherwise they will not be counted.

Voted.

I have to say that, as expected, the Best Challenge Story has produced the strongest field in story terms.

Congrats to those nominated, esp writer of the year any one of those guys winning would be well deserved and it was a tough choice. No, I'm not telling who I voted for icon_razz.gif

Link to post

No, it wasn't a text... it indicates the story is still on FMS. I can only put one URL in the designated field in the Index, and if I fill it with a non-archive URL, it makes life a thousand times harder for me. Didn't have the time to fix that before the awards, and if it wasn't for this crappy latest board software, those stories would already have been archived anyway. icon_smile.gif

If you clear you history, then visit the main FMS page and THEN enter the thread, you'll see most of the links are marked as "visited". The ones that aren't, but are URLs, will take you to the CMS archives, and the specific stories themselves. icon_smile.gif

OK ballot submitted, after a lengthy absence I don't really feel able to vote on all categories for the current year so there's only about a third that I've put in - I thought that a fairer system than just sticking my finger in the air after a brief flick through a couple of stories on some of the categories icon_smile.gif

That's the same reason I'm not voting at all this year - I haven't been around enough to make an opinion on most of the categories.

!!!ACHTUNG BITTE!!!

I've made a fairly stupid mistake... Somehow, HD's "Kids" story was cut off the list of Challenge Story finalists.

Anyone who's voted so far and would like to change his vote in this category to Iain's story, may do so by sending a clearly marked correction vote via e-mail. Please do so from the same address you sent your original one from.

Oh one other thing... a 'complaint' you could say.

Now I'm not saying that Faramir doesn't deserve it, but isn't it quite strange how he's in the most under-rated grouping and writer of the year? Surely if he's in contention for writer of the year then he is rated?

Other than that, good work

I've made a provision for this: should Faramir be named Writer of the Year, he cannot win Most Underrated. All of this is caused by the curious nominations received in some categories. There will be a bit of fine-tuning next year. icon_smile.gif

Link to post

The fact alone that he is nominated for Writer of the year means that he should be taken out of the most underrated category, unless you wish to imply that he is underrated if he gets anything less then Writer of the year...

Link to post

I'm not going to wade into the underrated debate, but I do want to send my apologies in advance for not being able to come to Vegas for the ceremony tomorrow. icon_frown.gif

Apart from the fact that I don't really want to go to the USA, I've got a wedding to get to. Hopefully I'll find time to read through the awards thread sometime over the coming week though.

I think the argument is that you could, in theory, win nothing and therefore people would feel that was a travesty, which would be true. But nevertheless, by the very nomination of Writer of the Year makes a person on of the best four writers on the forum and tbh I cant see how, even if they came 4th, that would make anyone underrated even if they did win nothing.

Oh well, if you win you can always give to me icon_wink.gif

Link to post

Alright then, if Mike too feels that way, I'll just remove him from most underrated. icon_smile.gif

Like I said, there will be some fine tuning in some of the miscellanious overall categories for next year, and some definitions will be modified. There might even be a seperate entry list. All of that's up for discussion at a later stage though, for now, I'll go back to totting up the votes. Good to see I've received a few more votes in the past 36 hours. I will accept ballot papers for the next 75 minutes (ends 1pm GMT).

It's very close indeed... many awards will be won and lost by just a single vote (and we're not talking 2-1 or 1-0 here)... If you want to make the difference, you have just under half an hour left to do so. This already extended deadline of 1pm IS final, as it'd be very difficult to justify a post-deadline change of winner.
