Lohaller
So in this version of FM crosses is the new go to for scoring , especially crosses from deep. I am not accusing the AI for cheating, i score more goals via crosses but i am getting to the point where i am losing the joy to play the game since i feel helpless in the defense. The tactics i am using varies, i have mostly played 4-4-2, 4-2-3-1, 4-3-3 and a weird 4-3-1-2 sort of a Christmas tree without wide midfielders. Right now this is the way i am looking at it: When playing a quick tempo counter-attacking football with a 4-4-2 or a 4-2-3-1, the first problem is stopping the crosses, to do this i put individual instructions to show on weaker foot on the wingers and full back, i also keep the wingers on support so they stay back a bit more. Once the opponent do get the cross in i really struggle, keeping my defensive line to high enables deep crosses and a forward that outruns my central defender. But if i keep my defensive line to low they get more crossing opportunities that equals more goals. When the crosses get into the box i have no clue what to do. I have my central defenders on tight marking and less closing down. In my recent save i do play without wingers and op for a possession tactic that closes down the opponent high up the pitch, it worked out great with a Brecia side in my 2:e season, that lost most of the good players and cant really afford to sign any new. The first half of the season i ran over every team i faced, but now it seems that the honeymoon have ended and i am back to getting frustrated over the crosses. Naturally i have the ball more and higher up the pitch then with a counter attacking football, so the opponent have fewer chances. My to side midfielder are set to bbm and they are my best players together with the wing backs. The recent games my team usually leads at half time and then falls back letting the opponent into the game, getting a few crosses and then its all square. From open play about 70% of conceded goals are from crosses, since this is not the first save with this statistic i feel helpless to prevent these goals. I have tried to man mark their winger but that usually leads to the fullback being out of position and generally poor defending, thinking about messing with the closing down but i feel that it wont work for fullbacks that are not considerable better then their opponents. I know i have not gone into detail on the tactics but the help i need is more general help to deal with crosses, in any way possible. I need any tip to help concede less crosses since it always howers around 70-80% no matter what tactic i use.
trajano080
I have a similar problem. It's too easy to score from crosses (my tactic is isn't even based on crossing, and btw I also concede a lot from them), but that makes goals with build-up through the middle impossible. HUNT3R
A lot of general advice in here: http://community.sigames.com/showthread.php/451682-FM16-Defending-crosses
iLikeTrains
Same for me. The far post crosses make 80% of the goals...
SpartanUTD
I play FM2013 and I concede from every single onch of the pitch
vasilli07
What role do you use for your DM in your 4-3-3? I find that an anchorman with good jump and heading is a good defensive move to help as he tends to play like a 3rd centreback.
summatsupeer
Everyone posts about the instructions they try to use but what about the players? Do you have midget fullbacks and centerbacks who don't dominate in the air or lack positioning? What about your goalkeeper? Does he command his area and have a good presence in the air? I've not had any issues with the amount of crosses I concede from, but then I prefer my fullbacks to be big (for fullbacks), one sometimes is more a CB (Jones/Smalling/Ivanović types who might move to CB with development) and I try to avoid center backs with < 15 jumping. I also like players to have good anticipation and mobility to cut things out if i'm more offensive so there's space / running back to goal, I find positioning is more important if defending deep as there isn't as much time to make up for bad positioning. Bunkerossian
Would a Stopper/Cover pairing defend better against crosses than the usual Defend/Defend?
SpartanUTD
I always use a DC/defend and a LD/defend, as anything else seemed to leave massive gaps in front of my GK
