SpartanUTD
I will describe you in general about my problematic approach to derbies, without becoming to specific about tactics. I am using a specific tactic that might usually work in a derby. E.g. I won Schalke 1-0, with a rigid/counter attack 3-6-1 (3-3-2-1-1) and used the same against Bayern Munich and at the 3rd minute I was loosing 2-0 (final:4-0)! I know that good teams always play attacking football, leave space behind their defence to exploit and counter attack/direct passing/clear ball to flanks could be the solution. Sometimes though, if we can't get the ball, we can't obviously pass it forward and shoot. Things I keep trying slightly changed every time, but don't seem to work are the ones below: 1. Playing counter attack/direct passing/clear ball to flanks, with "stand-off", I always got battered massively by teams like Bayern, Dordmund etc. Defending is always poor and we never get the ball to push forward. 2. Trying to push forward, play attacking football and hassle/tackle often, might create a chance or 2, but my players are mainly caught of position by the opposition World class strikers and they score 99% of their one-to-one chances. 3. Trying to take it easy with a standard/balanced tactic, we don't push forward, we don't counter attack, we don't tackle much neither. It just feels like if we are just waiting to see when the opposition will score. What would be your suggestion from your playing exprerience?
