Dregganor
Apologies if this has been asked before, but looked around and didn't see an answer. I know dynamic rivalries were added in FM16, but is it possible for any of your new rivals to develop into derbies?
ermant
You mean a name for the derby like "north london derby" or "manchester derby" etc? I think new rivals are just added to the list of "other rivals" as competitive rival with no special derby name.
James_Fraser
I don't see why not. You can become fierce rivals over time and maybe if you are close enough geographically you may get a derby
Plachy
To piggy onto this thread - I've been playing in Wales for > 20 years now and have dominated the league for most of this but no rivalries have developed. Do they take more than 20 years to develop? For example, I think that TNS would be rivals of my side for knocking them off their perch. Or Bala/Connah's Quay who have had reasonably dominant seasons but just missed out on titles because of my dominance. Any help appreciated.
SI Staff Seb Wassell Posted May 12, 2016 SI Staff Share Posted May 12, 2016 Hi all, It is not possible for new "named" derbies to be created, this is because that is a database thing that is manually added by the researcher. However it is certainly possible for a rivalry to develop to the point (or beyond) that of an existing rival/derby game, it is simply that it will not be named. Plachy - Rivalries do take a while to develop and are only displayed once they are at or over (I think) a level of 50 (out of 100), anything below this will only be visible using the in-game editor. However it does sound as if you have the circumstances in place for one to have developed, if you open up a post and upload a save in the bugs forum we can take a look. Cheers, Seb. James_Fraser
cheers Seb for clearing this up Plachy. That's a bug. I've had dynamic rivalries in a couple of my saves and it certainly didn't take that long

Dregganor
Thanks all, especially Seb! This may be getting nitpicky, but has anyone determined if new rivalries can be distinguished as local vs. competitive? Say you're a lower league London club and you make it to the EPL and develop rivalries with the EPL London clubs, will the game recognize that the rivalry is geographic in nature instead of just competitive? mbsears
I've been playing a save for 15 years now; I manage Dag & Red (based in east London) and they have zero rivals. None local or fierce. With all of the London teams out there even ones based in east London its crazy i haven't developed a rivalry with Leyton Orient or West Ham. Does anyone know how long it takes to create one? How many games do you have to play them first or what is the criteria?

Does anyone know how long it takes to create one? How many games do you have to play them first or what is the criteria? I think the important question is criteria. Seb's post from last year seems to suggest that there is a rating between your club & every other individual club which goes on a 0-100 scale and that once that rating goes over a certain number (He thought 50) it gets listed as a rival. Now what affects that rating and triggers it to go up & down who knows, I've never seen anyone do any research in that area. EDIT I would also add that I know dynamic rivalries are a fairly newish addition to FM, not exactly sure when they were added but I can't say I've ever seen one added to any team I was managing in the last 2/3 versions. rinso
I think FM17 is the first time I have seen it happen for any of my teams. I'm in the PL with Dartford, and alongside the local/competitive rivalries they already had, I now have Man City (other rivals) and Chelski (fierce) listed. lemeuresnew
i regularly get tottenham as a competitive rivalry on my liverpool saves. i obviously do well, and Poch seems to be as consistent in game as real life. throw in a couple of finals (one a 4-3 euro sup cup win for me ) and it seems to add up i also think because we are usually complimentary towards each other it becomes competitive instead of fierce, but i cannot confirm this obviously. but it is my game so my imagination has the final say! Does anyone know how long it takes to create one? How many games do you have to play them first or what is the criteria? Well rivalries are rivalries, isnt it? Think about what happens irl, how a rivalry is created, there are many possible reasons, 1. Results and success, 2. Heated games, 3. Geographical rivalry etc. I am managing Real Madrid for over 38 seasons and currently in 39th season in FM17, as I have this long save going I didnt want to destroy it by switching games so I stuck with fm17, I have the newer iterations as well but I don't play much of them. So coming to the original point as I have been so long in the save i have quite an idea to what relations are in this game, there are basically 4 kinds of relations in the game Human(H) to Club(C), H to H, C to H, C to C. It will be a very long article if I talk all about it so just focus on the C to C part, where rivalries exist, well I mentioned how rivalries happen irl, but in the game the results matters most about the new rivalry system, and geography too in some extent, I saw Barcelona having many rivalries in the game in the latest saves as they went downhill after 10-12 years after retirement of their stars like Suarez, Neymar etc and as they were loosing games even against very small teams, their results went to became very unpredictable over the years and rivalries are born. In the current save Barca have almost 9 La Liga teams in the rivalry tab! Guess what as I said they are kinda mid table to lower half team thats bcz of their results, they have rivalry with even Alaves with the value set to 45!! And why is that, cz they are poor and their results are unpredictable opposed to now irl where Barcelona are a dominant side with odds of winning all games except the even ones like against both Madrids, Bayern, Juve etc who are their rivals. Going into long saves will get you nice idea about it,
