[FM16] The slow slog through Europe!

Makoto Nakamura

Recommended Posts

Here we are again, San Marino has gone as I can't find a work around so now I move on to something I wanted to try when FM17 comes out but I guess I can try it now instead.

The premise is that with the San Marino save I was always entering the Champions League and even 65 seasons in it was always the same teams in the Champions League which is a bit boring in all honesty, this will be a European Journeyman starting from the bottom, seasons will be slow with the amount of leagues loaded so updates will be monthly and I really just want to see how the game world evolves over 10-15 seasons or maybe even more if I'm lucky!

Now what have I got loaded? Well:

Every league from every European country (bar Crimea & Kosovo) and I'll be starting unemployed with no badges, with just a couple of months left until the next release I may not get too many seasons in, but hopefully I get far enough in to see some decent changes in the game world!

Xghajra Tornadoes F.C. is a football club from the small seaside community of Xghajra, located in southeastern Malta. It was founded in 1985, and joined the Maltese Football Association in 1994 who went strait to the top division by achieving promotions season after season mostly first place and second place without interruption. This record is recognized by FIFA that Xghajra Tornadoes FC Malta is the only club in Europe if not in the world who from nowhere “not established before” has done this difficult tusk. This club took also part in the Maltese Premier League in the early 2000s. Their first outing in the Premier League was in the 1997/98 season, where they beat Pieta Hotspurs 1–0.

Another notable record is that Xghajra Tornadoes has never lost the league derby match for a luxury twenty years against our cousins if not brothers, "as most of Xghajra players where rejected by Zabbar St Patricks FC". This record had come to an end in November 2014 when finally Zabbar St Patricks FC won 2–0. The highest score in all derby league matches marks Xghajra T. 8 vs Zabbar.St Patricks 1.

A 12 month contract with a team in the 4th tier of Maltese football, also the lowest ranked league available to manage in so I couldn't start any lower than this, I have a 12 month contract and depending on how things go in these 12 months will decide as to whether I stay or go come the end of the season.

We're predicted to finish 7th in a league where the top 3 teams get promoted but first I think I'll need to fill out the squad.

We have some decent players but the best couple are on loan to us along with a newgen goalkeeper.

Gary Mifsud

Matthew Spiteri

Miguel Caruana

The only negative is that we're already over our budget, we're spending £383 p/w when our wage budget is only £326 p/w.

Wow, best of luck with this one! Interesting team to start with, hard to pronounce for sure.

Thanks smp, the first update will be at the end of Pre-Season but it's safe to say that loanees will be the way to go for now! And with the pronunciation I've asked a Maltese friend of mine how you pronounce it :D

That makes reading it a little easier now :D I thought pronouncing Chinese clubs/names was hard enough!

Didn't realise that the friend I asked is actually the Social Media and PR Coordinator and a board member of Floriana who play in the Maltese Premier Division! :D

Pre-Season 2015/16

I'm very happy with how Pre-Season went, a draw and a loss against Premier League opposition along with narrow wins which will hopefully boost morale. We should definitely be able to meet expectations this season.

I started off with getting whatever players I could get on loan for no money and then worked on improving the core of the squad, here are the best players brought in.

Keith Muscat

Gianluca Debattista

Melvin Busuttil

Charlo Borg

I'm honestly very surprised, we've started off amazingly with both Gary Mifsud (on loan from Attard) and young Charlo Borg being the standout players with 4 goals each already we're sitting pretty at the top of the table on 7 points although we are one of only 2 teams to have played 3 games so Luqa, Kalkara and even Mdina could take the top spot from us. We should have gotten all 3 points from the Dingli game as we went 2-0 up and they scored 2 late goals to equalise, but we did score this cracker against them!

And then poop narrowly hit the fan, we were lucky to score an equaliser against Mdina and it was the first goal they've conceded all season and then we lost to lower league Xewkija in the FA Trophy from a 90th minute goal, for a lower league team they had some very good players, an ex-Malta international and a handful of players who wouldn't be out of place in the Maltese Premier/ First Division. We finished the month against Kalkara where we took an early lead, then we went down to 10 men and ended up with a loss to put us down to 4th.

An almost perfect month. just the game against Sta Lucia being a blip, we should have easily defeated them, we have the best attack in the league and they have the worst defence in the league plus we had the home advantage. The result? We have 3 shots all game and score in the 89th minute.

Always love threads like these. Malta's an interesting place to start, and I suppose you'll be aiming to win every playable division possible? Sounds really fun. Good luck on your journey!

Thanks Oriole :) and nope, the aim is just to see where the journey will take me and to hopefully see a more varied Champions League and Europa League.

We bring the year to a close still being in the promotion places, but only just and should Mtarfa win both of their games in hand then we'll be pushed down into 4th. We against Luqa we had the most boring game known to man, so much so that there were barely any highlights. The high point was a freak goal against Marsaskala.

San Giovanni are currently 5th in their group after 12 games so they definitely need my help!

Thanks Jamie, one more update for the night coming up!

An unbeaten month keeps us in playoff contention but Mdina are really breathing down our necks with 2 games in hand, we really need to get above Mtarfa who I'm guessing are in front of us on head-to-head record and going into the new year I've strengthened our weakest positions with some more signings/ loans.

Good luck with this. I have tried something similar in the past, but 51 leagues loaded were just too much and I've had crash dumps every other week. You can even find a thread about this if you're ready for a long search, but it only has 3 or 4 posts, so...

Anyway, good luck!

Thanks Nie Jem Frytek, I had a quick look at your thread, it's a shame about the crash dumps :( luckily I've not had any thus far.

What's it like taking things at a slower pace?

It's strange to say the least but hopefully with me being forced to play at a slower pace maybe people will be more likely to check in on how it's going :)

Seems to be a rather large amount of parking at your stadium. ;)

That amount of parking for a team who's average attendance is bottom of the league at just 51...

I think so, I certainly found it tricky to follow your previous careers with such a fast pace. I often felt inhibited from commenting on something because the career already seemed to have moved on way beyond that even tough you had only posted it a day or so before.

I thought so, also with the slower pace I can stop and have a look at what's going on in the other leagues, in my subscriptions I'm subscribed to club takeovers so I'm notified when any tycoons come in at a club and also with competition records so I feel a bit more like I know what's going on around me. I can also say that I've got something similar to this in terms of game speed planned for FM17 so watch this space :)

2 tough away games in February which we amazingly managed to win both which means we stay in the promotion places and no we're the ones with the games in hand so as long as we don't mess up too much then we should be there or thereabouts come the end of the season.

February also saw the Youth Intake which saw some players with a potential for this division of football, but since this isn't a youth challenge I haven't taken a screenshot of the players.

Finally, we scored another freak goal against St. Venera which I think should really have been a throw in!

2 games left of the season and we have very little to play for, because we have managed to get promoted and we've done it rather easily (even if it was thanks to a lot of late goals)! Mtarfa and Mdina have both slipped up big time with Mtarfa winning two of the last five and Mdina just one of the last five which sees us guarantee Maltese Division 2 football next season! Our last two games of the season see us play at home against Luqa and hopefully delay their title win by a few more days and to finish off we face mid-table Sta Lucia away from home.

That did not go so well, where late goals have saved us in the past, this time it awarded Luqa the victory and the title. We then performed just as badly against Sta Lucia to end the season on a slight low despite promotion. I would like to stay on and see how we do in Division 2 but my contract runs out next month and so far I've had no new contract offer.

How is that one the goal of the season?  You've already shown about 4 others here that are 8 times better than that. Also how do you record the highlights like that? With the SI and FM logos before it.

Might have been a rough ending, but you were predicted to come 7th and yet you went up. A job well done!

I'm another who will find tracking your career easier at the slower pace, btw.

Good luck next season.

Also, of course Folgore won the league with -11 points on second place. Only in San Marino

Good :D and yep, Folgore / Falciano finished 2nd in Group A on 36 points which in terms of points was joint 4th overall behind Group B's La Fiorita and Tre Penne who were on 47 and 45 points respectively and Pennarossa who topped Group A on 41 points.

On the whole it was a good pre-season with only a couple of questionable results but I'm hopeful for when the season starts.

51c7b23939e90dbf80e3bc6b4ad70d28.png

And apparently so is the media, we're predicted up in 4th whilst the league winners Luqa are predicted down in 9th and 3rd placed side Mdina are favourites for the drop, no pressure then!

5b1f677ca2c0e9cc507091238fd1dfed.png

More loanees coming in to improve the squad for pittance, the only worrying thing is the lack of depth we have for strikers. and with Gary Mifsud going out on loan (blaming the DoF on that one) it leaves us with just Idahosa as a senior striker, and he's injured for the next couple of weeks so I may have to temporarily go strikerless.
