anagain
Ever had one of those days on FM when you just get screwed at every moment? I'm well and truly having one today. I finished the last season in a commendable 5th place in the Danske Bank Premier, and this season we're aiming for better. I have a better defence, a cracking new winger and Kevin Braniff in the squad for his experience and versatility. Then it starts to go pear shaped... At one point or another I've had a key player out injured, we've had onsides flagged offside whilst our opponents goals are clearly offside and players are struggling to get fit (haven't changed anything from previous seasons). I thought that was all bad enough, then the luck totally deserted me. We were just starting to get a few results together...against teams doing better than us...when my goalie disclocates his shoulder. I'd held off getting a new goalies this summer after my backup retired. I figured I had an able replacement in a young player just moved to the reserves, but that choice will screw me in a minute...wait for it. I went in to my next game and my youngster performed admirably, earning us a deserved draw. Right at the end, though, luck rears its ugly side again and my star center back bangs his head. He's out for a couple of weeks. So I go in to a huge game against Linfield with my young reserve keeper and without my star big center back. It can't get worse, right? Remember what I said above? We performed admirably and only lost 0-2. What wasn't quite so bad was more injuries. My new winger damaged his hip and is out for 3 months, and then my young goalie goes and damages his shoulder making a save. Yes, two shoulder injuries to keepers. I'm now searching frantically for a keeper, but the Danske Bank Premier doesn't allow emergency loans outside a window. Depending on good old dependable Alan Blayney accepting a contract offer without coaching responsibilities that he wants. If not I'm playing a 16 year old. Wish I'd bought a keep pre-season. Tell me how it can get worse. It can't...can it?
Cougar2010
I know the feeling Two seasons ago we got promoted and last season with a mixed squad a good run in saw us stay fairly comfortably above the relegation zone. After four seasons I finally felt like the squad was mine after adding to it in the summer and confident we could finish at least mid table. Pre-season went well as we were unbeaten before we started with back to back wins in the cup. The 1st round of the Cup is groups of four with the top two going to the knockout stage and this is where it started going wrong. With six points on the board it looked good but we were terrible in the next four picking up just one point and the poor form continues into the league campaign
anagain
Sometimes you just feel a bit powerless to stop the rot. Team meetings help, but they're not an instant fix. I got Alan Blayney and he got a clean sheet against Cliftonville to earn us a draw, so maybe my luck's on the swing. Next game is Ballymena, so I bet I lose 4-0! But, at the end of the day, this is what we all love about FM, I suppose. It's the ups and downs and the stories that arise.
