90 Minute Feaver on Steam using FM assets

Recommended Posts

Some of the former FM Live players are part of the 90 minute fever crew. I don't think that they use anything from FM besides some inspiration. And to be frankly player profile pages and tactic screens are looking similar in all football management games.

There's no doubt that Isokron have drawn a lot from FM & in some cases have just copied design choices but that's hardly surprising & as I mentioned in the previous thread about this I doubt SI can have much scope to claim IP infringement when it comes to the UI because it's a style that is ubiquitous to sports games & in more general terms how sports statistics are presented.

I'm pleased to see another company enter the market with what looks like a very serious attempt to offer an alternative to FM & I like the fact that group of people who felt they could do a better job have actually stepped up with a release. Heck, that mentality is why SI exist.

As Marc Duffy has been playing the game since it went into Beta I imagine that if they {SI] felt there was an issue with IP infringement they would have unleashed the lawyers, in fact Sega have a corporate obligation to start that process if there is any suggestion of unauthorised use of their's or SI's intellectual properties.

Given that the game was green-lit for release & is still going it would indicate that there has been no foul play.

This 100%. Competition breeds excelence

Indeed, although SI have not been deliberately resting on their laurels during their period of absolute dominance it is human nature to be at your best when challenged & there is no better challenge than a rival.

I certainly dont think that. If I did I would have long ago abandoned this game but yes the competition will in the end make consumers happier.

Not only that, but FM is built on an engine that is super old, from what I've read.  It's like DayZ being built off of Arma 2 instead of Arma 3.  A newer football management simulator might be a lot better if it's built off of a much more current and efficient engine.  Maybe SI will invest and reboot the series as a result too, etc.

I think it was FM2013 the current match engine dates from. It's not all that old really, undoubtedly when the time comes SI will develop it further. The animations & graphics bolted on top of the match engine are a different matter entirely.

One of FM's main assets is undoubtedly its database, if anyone were to begin using that without permission I think it'd be a different ballgame. The same actually applies to the match engine as well, looking like FM and playing like FM are two different things after all.

It's not theft, it's just a sad lack of imagination.  It would've been nice to have seen them try something different, rather than just aping an existing game.  I'm not surprised that some of SI's staff are happy for it to happen, because unless they're hiding away something totally amazing, then it's always going to draw comparisons with FM, and it's unlikely to compare favourably.

Some originality in how it looked would've gone a long way to set it out as its own game, rather than just a "oh wasn't FML amazing" maudlin tribute show.

As someone who has and is trying out the game.. first thing i'd point out is that while the aesthetics are FM -like ... the game isn't really.. it's obviously geared for online play and has nowhere near anything approaching FM in terms of content..

Having said that, it's got potential... just needs more content and things to do :)

That's coming from someone who has tried the game though, so fair enough.  To someone like me though who is used to FM, and then sees screenshots, then it just looks incredibly lazy.  Had they advertised as something similar to FML, but had its own unique look and feel, I'd probably be a lot less cynical about it.  I imagine I won't be the only one thinking like that.

Oh i'm cynical about it, and there was a previous thread to this about it somewhere on the forums...  I wish they hadn't gone for the same aethetic and at least tried to do their own thing.. but there we go.

Yeah, pretty much my thinking.  Not that I don't hope they're successful, as there's definitely a gap for it.  Just disappointing that they wouldn't go for a little more originality to set themselves apart.

Anyway, I'm sure they're loving getting two threads made about them on another game's forum...
