Can someone please explain Player Role Traits to me

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

Just bought FM 2016 Mobile after last having the 2014 version - its seems to be following the same pattern but player role traits are new and I would like it if someone could answer a few of questions on them for me please.

  1. Can two players in the same position and role have different traits? Eg player A in the FC position as advanced forward will have different role traits to Player B in the same position and role.
  2. If the answer to the above is Yes - I am assuming I have to keep a players role traits in mind when setting his position and role in my tactic - eg Player A behave differently as winger to Player B - and I should factor how I want my team to play when looking at this.
  3. Why are some traits shown in Red, some in Black and some in Green?
  4. Can a players role traits change and evolve as his career progresses?

Sorry if the above has already been asked but I did a search and could not find anything.

Loving the game by the way.

Thanks in advance for your help.

1. Yes each player can be different

2&3. The way I understand it is that each player may have different tendencies/styles of how they play. When checking which positional role they can play (CM/BBM/DLP etc) the traits screen will show relevant skills to that role. Green means the player is better suited for that role. Red is bad. Black is neutral. So for example, all other stats being equal, you'd rather have a player in DLP who has stops play and dictates tempo in green over one who has it in red/black.

4. I've seen traits come and go with age and stat fluctuations. Wouldn't surprise me if training has a direct impact as well but that's just speculation.

One thing I would like to know is what's better - player with a trait in red or no trait at all??

Also need to keep an eye on player traits in relation to the formation you are playing.

For instance I often play with a deep-lying forward and so try to avoid players who have the 'plays no through balls' trait as this is better suited to a poacher

If you are using the player in that role, then the player is probably better without the red trait e.g. a deep-lying forward is better suited for the role if they don't have the trait 'plays no through balls'.

Having said that, it's still perfectly possible for the player to be great in that role despite the unsuitable trait.
