Help with my 4-1-2-3 tactic considering the type of football I want to play

Hi guys,

I've been changing my tactic for a while now because I can't seem to find a tactic that suits the type of football I want to play best. Maybe I'm just overthinking things, so I thought I'd just share my tactic in the hope I could get some feedback, tips or help me find possible flaws.

My idea
Without the ball I want to have a solid defence without leaving to much space between my defenders and midfielders for the opposition to exploit. On the ball I want my team to play a creative, fluid type of (somewhat attacking) game. Not have possession just for the sake of having possession, but aiming for more than 50%.

Other info
I play as Ajax, which means that in almost every match I'm the favourite and my players are cosidered better than most of the other players in the league.

Questions
So I'm curious to see how you think my tactic corresponds with what I have in mind, buI have a few specific questions regarding my tactic.

1. One of my CD's is a ball playing defender because that role suits him very well. But I don't see other people using this role often, mostly the CD's are pure defenders. How does the BPD cope in my tactic and do you advise it?
2. My DM is purely defensive, but the role that suits the player best is deep lying playmaker. When I assign that role he plays more forward. Any suggestions on his role in relation to my overall tactic?
3. I'm curious if 'play into space' would be a good addition to this tactic?
4. Is my tactic leaving too much space between my full backs and wide attackers for the oppostion to play and give crosses in the box? If yes, how could I affect this?

Thanks :)

  1.  Who will the BPD make risky passes to?  Even good BPD will be worse than most midfield playmakers so people prefer to just play safer passes to the playmakers feet.  Just because a defender is good with the ball doesn't mean you should play them as a BPD, it depends on your tactic.  I think they can work well if your playing a style where the ball goes from back to front quickly such as a counter attacking style or a very vertical attacking style.
  2. Select the roles that are best for your tactic not the individual players.  If you want him to perform at his best then you may need to change other parts to make his role work.
  3. This will increase the number of risky passes into space, do you need more players trying risky passes for your runners?  I prefer this if I have lots of generic roles with a good number of runners so players look to play each other through.  With a CF-A, IF-S, AP-S and BPD-D you have four players already looking to play risky passes with only the CF-A and W-A looking to make forward runs often with a number of occasional runners.
  4. Depends what you think "too much is", if your pressing then your AML+AMR will be closer to the opponents fullbacks and may track back.  Moving them to ML+MR will make the space between them and the FB's smaller so its harder to play into that space, but if they push up the press in higher pressing styles they'll leave space anyway.

With that amount of creative freedom your relying on players and slightly less on your instructions.  I'd maybe have a WB-S behind the IF-S to provide width but apart from that i'd just give it a go.  Remember to setup your GK instructions if you haven't already.

i think you just described a 4-2-3-1 system and i suggest you start a new save playing as arsenal, you will see what ppms those defenders, strikers, midfielders may have

that midfield duo is so conservative that there will be no runs at all from midfield, you will probably need to rely on your right flank el-ghazi to give any penetration or direct movement, playing complete forward based on my own experience is more potent if he has a striker partner or someone who can play behind him
