Powermonger
The recent suggestion on player positions re-ignited my bug bear of the Mental stats, I think it's about time this group of attributes got sorted better and split into two groups: Tactical and Psychological Tactical attributes should be everything that relates to tactical thinking (game intelligence), such as the following: Anticipation Decisions Positioning Off the Ball Teamwork Vision Psychological attributes are the ones that affect the individual, such as: Aggression Bravery Composure Concentration Determination Flair Leadership Work Rate This would make more sense in football terms then lumping them together as they have been for ages. Sure there would be no changes required in the actual code, just how they are presented in the interface. Time for a bit of evolution.
HUNT3R
The big question is why does it need to be split? What's to be gained from it?

Because lumping them together obfuscates their relationships. One group is cognitive attributes while the other deals with emotional responses. Many coaching books always separate out the tactical thinking from the psychological thinking when dealing with players and the coaching of them. There is always 4 areas of a player that need developing: Technical, Physical, Tactical and Psychological. By FM separating out the different mental attributes, it would align it more to the typical coaching philosophy. It be much easier when looking at a players profile to judge their tactical thinking in separation from their psychological make-up.
swansongs
Flair and Work-Rate are - in FM terms - as much Tactical attributes as they Psychological. Really what the game needs is for players to be able to arrange the attributes page as we see fit.

Was just coming in to post this as a suggestion. Yesterday's discussion on Positioning and OTB got me thinking.

I wouldn't say Flair and Work Rate are tactical attributes, one is about physical expression and the other is about physical exertion. But yes I agree it would be good to arrange the attributes as we see fit in the player profiles
swansongs
One controls the directness of a player's play, the other how much he will press opposition players. They both have strong tactical implications.
swansongs
You can also go the other way and say that Off the Ball/Movement and Positioning are as Psychological as they are Tactical, as both control the willingness of a player to make movements either back into their assigned defensive position, or out of it to find space for attacking opportunities. Teamwork determines whether a player will perform a selfish or selfish action (go for goal or play in teammate). There is no simple divide between the two labels in how the match engine uses these attributes.
