FFP

Recommended Posts

Been at my new club Zenit for 5 months after taking over during the season. Just about to start a full season and the club is projected to fail European Champions Club FFP for the current period. The board is looking to fetch in other revenue streams but is there anything I can do as a manager to help except sell star players - the club has a current projected loss of £24mill and its projected to be £46mill.

I thought FFP was over a 3 season period however the note states is was for 12 months where you can lose £3.37 mill and the projected loss for this period is £46mill.

In the 5 months Ive been at the club I've spent around £25 -£30mill on players which were needed as the squad was aging and had not enough cover in defence I did not let any go. Ive also revamped the backroom staff which I do at any club I take over There are few players however whos contracts are expiring but there wages wont add up to much - so I hope I haven't contibuted much to the problem as the board had no issue with me spending the money.

Im currently loaning players out of the club - but apart from permanent transfer which I don't really want to do is there anything else I can do as a manager or would you just leave it to the board to resolve

If the club was at risk of failing FFP and you spent £30m without selling anybody, you've definitely contributed to the club's position.

Loaning players out to bring down your wage bill will help a little bit, but if I was in your shoes I'd be looking to sell somebody - probably my star player - to bring that £30m back into the club, and scouring the free transfer market for a replacement.

When I took over I identified key playing areas that needed addressing immediately and the club was set to pass the FFP.

The board gave me the transfer fees to spend on players and did not warn me that we could gain this sanction at the time or in the future. The bank balance of the club was also high so I did not see it as a problem  The bank balance is also high at the cub now as it has £29mill in the bank.

I shall see what happens during the season through the boards revenue streams  and if I have to sell I have enough players worth money to enable me to do so

That's the thing though, the board have never - in any version of FM - been adverse to making mistakes. In one long-term save I was at a club who used to make over £100m available for transfers, but if I had spent it I'd have bankrupted the club. It's a judgement call.

You're better off selling one or two players now, because if you're banned from Europe, all of your team may want to leave.

Well that worked out well without having to have to sell anyone. The reason it went into the red and said I would fail the FFP was because I had brought my signings for the following season in earlier than what I normally do and the players who I wasn't keeping were still on the books.

Once the 30th June had been reached the players whose contracts I did not re-new left the club and the FFP turned to green and we will pass it without any sanctions been imposed :)
