Eborg
A very simple question that has been bothering me for some time. How are unplayable leagues "unlocked" for the player to manage in nations that are not officially included by SI Games? Is it: a) adding or removing certain files (like for German clubs, the Dutch national team etc.) or b) downloading official SI unlocks through Steam or c) downloading unofficial fan-made database files or d) manually creating a league from within the editor? The main question is around the fact whether or not the league structure(s) are already put in place by the researchers from day one or have to be redone every year by the community? Thanks! mark1985
I always do C or D when I want a different league. Usually C as I'm partial to a cock up when doing it myself
XaW
I usually find something in the Editors Hideaway or at other sites when I want another league.
Weston
I might experiment with doing something like this for the first time with FM17. If I manage an Italian club, for example, I would want as much of the Italian football system in the game as possible, so I might download and add Eccellenza, etc. But, if they're very underdeveloped, what exact benefit does that provide to the game that the game's natural ability to grab lower clubs for promotions doesn't already do? Just the ability to see another table and set of matches? More players? Is it even noticeable if you're playing higher up?
XaW
I wouldn't know about Italy, but I've added lower leagues to England a couple of times. In FM14 (or 15?) it was the down to 11th tier. In FM16 I added the one down to the 24th tier. The goal was, as usual, to win the Premier League. I got as far as League One, but I had great fun. Though at the horribly low levels some of the play is so bad it's good. Howlers and mistakes a plenty, though both for and against. With the added challenge of being an amateur club, I really enjoyed it.

I tried it once, but as my laptops getting on a bit it was so slow I jacked it in after a season (nothing to do with the naffness of the team I picked...). Looking through the various databases in the editors hideaway is fun when looking for a new save as it can give you some great ideas for a save in places you'd never usually consider. I tried a casual experiment with a 6th tier side and that seemed difficult enough! But for Italy I don't necessarily mean to play in - I'm aiming to do a Lega Pro / Serie C club this year - but more just to flesh out the realm in which I'll exist. Obviously the game will find clubs to promote without me actually creating the leagues below, but I was just wondering how much they really add. I've heard that sometimes they add so little it's not even really worth it, I don't know.

Thinking either a minor team in a big city (a minor Roam team beating Lazio and Roma would be fun as would ending Napoli's southern dominance with another Neapolitan team) or some tiny little village on a hillside in Sicily or Trentino beating the big boys. Just debating how far down to go...

Just debating how far down to go... Italian saves are my favorite. I have ancestors from Scafati and there are always 1-2 Scafatese clubs floating around below the playable leagues (the best one made it as high as Serie B briefly in the chaotic wake of WWII before going straight back down), and my best friend is from Treviso who had one fateful Serie A year in the mid aughts before dying as well. Though I'm still yet to commit to them, Serie B's Pro Vercelli is the most romantic option (take a quick look at their history on wikipedia and you'll see why). I keep going lower and lower as I get better and more dedicated to this game. I started out as Juve back when both the club and I had no idea what we were doing, but as we've both improved in recent years it became less challenging to play as them so I started going down to B. This will be my first year in C if I follow through, and I'm naturally leaning towards clubs I know having seen them in A in the past (Parma, Lecce, Catania, Livorno, etc.), but who knows where I'll end up (Buffon's Carrarese gets an honorable mention). I'm still not *that* impressive, and I'm afraid real life will get in the way before I reach any sort of satisfactory conclusion! In any case it may be beneficial to have Eccellenza leagues added if I dip below for some signings, but I have my doubts.

I also have Italian family (from Sicily) and my Italian team is Brescia (saw them play PSG in an Intertoto game years ago when Baggio played for them). Considering Italy or somewhere like Czech Republic/Slovakia/Hungary. Decisions decisions. Have you ever read the book 'Calcio'? Can't remember who wrote it but it's a history of Italian footy (the good bits and the bad bits) and is fascinating

They were one of if not the first Serie B club I ever played as. I usually prefer Italy to other leagues as that's mostly what I watch and I have the most knowledge of, though if I play this far down that knowledge never really comes into play much if at all. I haven't read Calcio, but my friend Adam Digby (one of the top English-language calcio journalists) has a great book on the history of Juventus that I'm looking forward to reading. chestermike
I had a great 9 season save in Italy starting in the Excellenza with Sancataldese, a team from a small town smack bang in the middle of Scicily called San Cataldo. Was a lot of fun. Sadly after 9 seasons it crashed due to some error in the edited database.

That's another reason I'm wary of editing the database with downloaded leagues - I don't want things to break. Where were you 9 seasons later? I assume out of Eccellenza, yet an error down there still ruined your whole save?
Sheriff7
I usually add all the leagues of Switzerland from editor...And that because i want to have more players for liechtenstein and is more easy for them to find contracts...

I was in serie c by then, the error came about by me turning off eccelenza, and the game didn't make any new league fixtures. If you use it just don't use the add/remove leagues and it should be fine.

Why did it crash because of there being no new league fixtures in a league there normally aren't any league fixtures in anyway? Did it just get confused because you did the change midseason? I'd say the vast majority of people do c). Search for claassen's league packs, like this for FM16 (he's announced he'll do the same for FM17): a) isn't possible, you can't add leagues by deleting files. SI semi-official mods are available only for Gibraltar, I think. All the rest is done by the community with the editor, and it's easier to download some by an experienced modder, than to do it yourself and risk creating bugs (although I've tried it myself without problems).
