Spurs08
In previous years I remember SI generally published a list of sites that were offering the beta with purchase, but this time I can't find it. How do we know if a site saying they offer it are actually approved or not? I missed the offer on Steam (the feature video wasn't out till Thursday night and then I was unexpectly busy yesterday ) and the price on there is way above what I normally have to pay. anagain
If you had any previous editions of FM you could have gotten a discount on FM17. As for beta access, I would assume bigger retailers but not key resellers. From experience of people's posts on here key resellers don't get to give beta access. Try Game or Amazon in the UK. It should say in the product description if they give beta access.

Game have it but at the same price at Steam, Amazon is £1 cheaper but for a boxed version with no mention of beta.
anagain
If you want beta access you'll have to pay it. I doubt you'll get a huge discount at key resellers. Up to you. Not trying to rub it in, or anything, but that offer had been up on Steam for quite a few months.

I don't see why I should pay money for a product I've been told nothing about. Especially given the recent issues in the industry, it's not a practice that should be encouraged. And again, it was a loyalty offer for those who have faith in the company and its product. I've played every game since FM2006. Back then I could buy the game wherever I liked - including pre-owned - put it in the disk drive and it worked. Now I have to buy it from certain sources or play it two weeks later. I have to have an internet connection to activate it and download patches, including on release day - I can't simply download the patches elsewhere and move them to my PC. I've bought games from SI I couldn't play on release because of their DRM (FM2009). I've bought games that have been ruined by bad patches that made the match engine worse, which were never fixed, and I'm now unable to choose which patch I play them on. Quite simply, I don't see why I should be punished for not having blind faith in a product that seems to care less and less about giving users choice. All that being said, I did eventually decide to pre-order, having been given some idea of what to expect and knowing that it appaers these situations won't get any worse - but the offer was left to expire only a single day afterwards. So with the progress of the last 10 years, I can now buy a £££ smartphone, with a ££ per month data plan, set up tethering and use that to complete the download. Before all of this, all I had to do was go wherever I liked, on whatever internet connection I liked, and hit "download". SI even provided a torrent to use if you were able for faster speeds. But this is all off-topic anyway - all I was actually asking was where the best place is to get beta access

I'd argue the opposite, that things are getting better now that they're all in one place. I don't have to go looking around the internet to get patches. There's also more ways to connect to your games and make changes. Quote Or I'll buy it from a key reseller, it will be about the same price and SI won't actually get all of it. I want to buy from Steam directly, but I'm not going to pay extra money for the privilege of it! You're not paying extra. You're paying the actual amount because you missed a deal that had been about for ages. And, if you do buy from a key reseller then don't complain if your key one day gets redacted. Key resellers gets their keys from a lot of non reputable sources and I know people who've had keys redacted. Key resellers are dodgy. My opinion, yes, but there's articles online that show just how bad they are. Quote With NO features announced. I don't see why I should pay money for a product I've been told nothing about. Especially given the recent issues in the industry, it's not a practice that should be encouraged. From the sounds of it you were destined to buy it anyway. You could have bought it at a discount and got a refund from Steam if you didn't like the features at release. I don't personally think that people should preorder unless they are 100% sure, but if your opinion was dependent upon features then you could refund before you've played, or even just cancel your preorder. Welshace
It's really simple.... SI offered those who wished to, an opportunity to pre purchase early before any announcements, and for that loyalty shown, they would get a great discount. There is no punishment for anyone, only a reward for those who decided to show their loyalty. Your original query was where to get beta.. you have your answer.. if you wish to moan about missing out on the discount, do it elsewhere. If you wish to moan endlessly about DRM or your issues with Steam, there are other places for that too.. But considering after all your moaning you are now saying you've got the game anyway.. I call this case closed and will happily close yet another thread gone astray.

I've seen nothing official yet from SI about this, other than Steam and the (now expired) discount offer. Until we get official word, I think all anyone can offer is that if the store mentions Beta access at their point of sale you get Beta access. If it doesn't then you don't. Perhaps someone can mention a store they've found that does and is reputable, which I think is all you're after.
