GioGio85
I'm looking at starting career save in FM17 in Malaysia before working my way up the leagues somewhere in Europe. I've never done it before, but I was intrigued to find out more about the general level of the Malaysian Super League. If I manage there and do OK, what level could be considered the next step? e.g. conference south? conference?
Cougar2010
Its really low somewhere about 1.5* rep. I started there in FM16 and even after some success in the league & Continental competition you are still stuck with 1.5* rep. Moving to Europe you are certainly looking at the lower part time leagues. Conference probably realistic but you aren't going to get a full time club, I went to Swedish Second Division but other part time leagues in Europe showed interest as well. GioGio85
Thanks Cougar - I suspected that it would be considered a fairly low level. I'm quite happy with that though Was it a struggle to be successful? Despite the low league standing they have some pretty large stadiums out there

Promotion to the Super League was fairly straight forward once I set the foundations and got a squad together. The Super League reminded me a fair bit of Hong Kong where the League feels enclosed and you are fighting the other teams for the best Malaysian players with the 3/4 foreigners you are allowed standing out as your best players. You kinda hit a bit of a wall then with 3/4 top teams hogging the good Malaysian players.
Dharcness
I've played malaysian league up to 2050. From 1.5* rep I managed to increase it to 2.5* rep Your main cash comes from continental winnings. You can try fix friendlies with Barcelona, they will steamroll you but the match will give you a nice 750k into your bank (fix another friendly with a low club to fix your devastate morale afterwards ) Until your club become more successful, JDT and Selangor will continuously poach your best players. You may have a hard time getting new foreigners to sign with your team. Even your current foreigners will fly away once their contract have ended. If your club president want to sell the club, pray that you get a sugar daddy.

The main issue is being able to scout them, especially lower down the league. Singapore is common while you see the odd Australian, players from the likes of Japan, South Korea & China and then a few from Africa/Eastern Europe/Middle East. Looking at my save now which is 20 seasons on from when I managed there I see foreign players from Germany, Lithuania, Bosnia, Austria, South Korea, Croatia, Italy, Australia, Indonesia, Brunei & China playing in Malaysia. Read what I type properly. I type MAY have a hard time. I didn't type WILL have a hard time.
harryleechinyeow
I think to jump from Malaysia straight to Europe might be a big ask. Like wat Cougar said, u may only find part time clubs willing to hire u, and it may feel like a downgrade, as most of the teams in Malaysia r already full time. I'd suggest u make a stop in the bigger leagues in asia b4 making ur big move, etc like China, South Korea, or Australia.

Presume he's referring to spamming friendlies to increase bank balance, as it isn't particularly realistic. Cougar gets a bit of a bee in his bonnet about "cheating". I don't know of any manager who worked in SE Asia making a move to the UK. I remember a few years ago the most successful manager India had had for decades, an Englishman, desperately seeking a lower league job in England and getting nowhere. Good advice - could make it quite an interesting save travelling across Asia for a few years. Never down it before To be honest,I quite like LLM saves so wouldnt be opposed to starting in non league England, but ultimately want to b edeveloping my own youth players, so want to be progressing to a decent club with the prospect of developing strong youth facilities at some point. Don't mind struggling for a decade or so mind
vikeologist
The experiences of people doing the Ultimate Football Manager challenge suggest that starting in Malaysia (and winning the league quickly as most who started there have done) hasn't helped get a better (second) job. In fact it seems as though the calibre of jobs they could get were actually lower than when they started. That might not be the case, but it certainly seems that the slight increase in reputation gained in Malaysia doesn't help the job hunt. In fact the fact that you would have stayed such a short time at your first club seems to more than offset the minimal reputation bump.

There is a Steam achievement called Loyalty Card for players who stayed at the same club for 5 years. Maybe u can work towards that while in Malaysia if nothing else LOL. Besides, it can be a pretty good challenge. The Super League winners currently only qualify for the 1st qualifying round of the Asian Champions League. They aslo qualify to the group stage of the AFC Cup (the Europa League of Asia) automatically in the case where you failed to get into the ACL group stage. There r 3 qualifying rounds towards the ACL group stage. U can start with a club in the 2nd-tiered Malaysian Premier League, work urself up to the Super League, and try to win it. And then, make getting into the ACL group stage ur main priority, with winning the AFC Cup as ur plan B if that fails. Fyi, Johor DT of Malaysia won the AFC Cup last season, and are currently in the semi final again. So Malaysia teams are capable of getting into the latter stages of that tournament. All that could easily get u 5 years of decent reputation and experience for ur nxt potential employer to think about.
