2feet
Hullo, Im playying 4141DM, Fullbacks (support), Central def (defend), Deepplying playmaker (DM), two central midfielders as Central midfielder (attack) and the other either box to box or Ball winning (support), left winger (attack), right winger (support), up top either false 9 or defensive forward (support) or target man (support). I put the central midfielders on close down more and the striker too. Standard mentality, flexible, short passing, sometimes close down more. League one Port Vale on FM 17. They are strong on Teamwork, Workrate, decent passing, poor on finishing. Im winning a few games 1-0, 2-0-. But now other teams are playing a formation of 3 centrebacks, 2 wingbacks, 3 central midfielders, and two strikers. And Im really struggling to make chances now. IU cant cruise around the edge of their box with the ball anymore, looking to play through passes. Cant get close. How do I get around this?
noikeee
This is funny because I'm playing the same formation (completely different roles, instructions and mentality, though), also on the England lower leagues, and I've found just like you that the AI 3-5-2 is the toughest tactic to go against. I don't have any solutions for now but will keep an eye on this.

I don't have the players for a 4-2-2-2 at all. Also... why this formation?
roggiotis
r u happy with winger roles ? i think overload in midfield works better , also r u happy with the '' work ball in to box '' T.I ?

yonko
I play 2-3-2-3 (4-1-2-3 DM WB Wide as the game calls it) and I've found that 3-5-2/5-3-2 is very difficult to play against. What I do is use the wide areas. You have to go wide, there is just no other way about it. With a 4-1-4-1 formation I would use a CF-S up front with moves into channels. Two WM-A on both sides with dribble more instruction, but only one of them to sit narrow. In the center I would use CM-A (on the same side where the WM doesn't sit narrow) and AP-S or RPM-S. And I would use DLP-D at the DM position. Fullbacks would be on attack duty, either as WB or FB whichever suits your players more. Team Instructions: Exploit Left and Right side, Hit Early Crosses (type of cross will depend on the heading/jumping ability of the attacking players) and Roam from Positions. Plus whatever else you normally use. The idea is to send 3-4 attacking players against their 3 central defenders and to use the fullbacks to bomb forward and provide crosses. In midfield you need to have a penetrating player and two recycling possession players. I prefer using playmakers, personally.
