blejdek
Hello ! As some of you are already playing the new fm 2017 beta, I thought I ask you all how is the defence working in the match ? As we know the defence in fm 2016 is like yours defenders are all silly. Goals from crosses happen far too often etc. I saw in the trailer that they make defenders more defenderslike, so they act more like real life people, better positioning and reactions. So we come back to the first question? What is your opinion about defence and defenders in fm 2017 ? Thanks in advance for all the answers and for help me deciding if i'm buying fm 2017 or not SBK
Bigshow1
Just finished my first season and have to say the defending is slightly better. Only thing is, goalkeepers seem to have some shocking moments. Stupid own goals, leaving back passes, not making any saves at all. Hope they get tweaked. FrazT
You are rarely going to get a consensus view on this type of question, so as is always said, try the Demo when it comes out at game release time and decide for yourself.
Sir Alex FM
I've had some of my best defensive seasons in a long time on FM17, but the defensive part of the ME still isn't good enough. The defenders look as if they have the brain of a six year old at least twice a game
Ellis_D
As Fraz said, the best thing to do is try the demo for yourself. But for me, I am absolutely loving the way defending works on this FM. Maybe it's my tactics? All i know is, it feels like for probably the first time in FM I have got a defensive tactic working well, to the way I like it. I have always been able to get attacking formations working, and I have been able to have successful defensive formations before too, but not working in the way I like. I am playing a 4-2-3-1 with two defensive midfielders on Defensive mentality. And I am drawing lots of games 0-0 and winning lots of games 1-0. Previously when I tried this I would still concede too many goals. Whichever club I was, and even having built up my squad over a number of years getting in the right personnel. I am managing Grimsby, and I have only signed 3 players - a target man on a free transfer, an attacking midfielder and a winger, both on loans. So it's not like I am a great team or have made good defensive signings, it's just that drilling them on defensive duties in training, coupled with the defensive tactics, actually seem like they are working for me properly for the first time ever.
