shaunwwfc
Pure and simply - Will "Tactical Familiarity" allow you to do this? I want to be able to tweak. Different shapes, different mentalities, different focuses.. is this at all possible without placing them all in your 3 slots? Yes, I may have 3 different "mentalities" that I can train, but what if I want different widths? Different shapes? I hate TF in FM. Hate it. And no, I do not want to play FMT either. Cougar2010
I have a different shape in each slot and then tweak as needed from match to match. You'll lose a little for tweaking mentalities, roles etc but not much. Moving positions is more of a hit. Overall thats the way the slots are designed to work, you aren't supposed to have the same shape in each slot.
shaunwwfc
Thanks Cougar2010. I will give your setup a go. I still dont understand why TF has to take such a hit though. It suggests to me that FM believes professional footballers to be completely braindead half the time.
RTHerringbone
This is why FMT is your friend. None of this familiarity nonsense. It's a tinkerers paradise.
Fosse
Tactical familiarity isn't that important
Bigpapa42
Gonna echo that FMT is a good option. If you really wanna stay with the full fat but think Tactical Familiarity is a bunk feature and unrealistic, use an editor to adjust tactical familiarity back to 100% whenever you make a significant adjustment. Just like real life where players instantly adapt to a style they've never played before.

The reality is that players actually do find it difficult to play in new systems, with each other. It takes time to develop cohesion, especially attacking cohesion - which is why much international football is negative. It does also depend on the adaptability and intelligence of players, and how much of their football schooling has been spent learning to play in different positions and different systems - something that England has not been good at historically. Fosse
Changing formation from a 442 to a 532 and the like should see you take a big hit in familiarity but I don't think changing mentality should have too much of an effect. From game to game real life teams play more or less aggressively, even within games teams "change mentalities" yet you don't see that there's a drastic difference in a playing struggling to adapt to the tempo because they're playing less attacking than 10 minutes ago. I appreciate that completely changing how you press would affect familiarity but for the most part footballers are multifunctional on the pitch. Guardiola had Man City line up with 3 at the back, and they really struggled, with Kompany getting into all sorts of bad positions, one of which led to Stones giving the ball away and Southampton (I think it was) scoring. Also, earlier in the season, I remember Koeman completely changing Everton's setup against West Brom when it was clear that their 3-4-2-1 wasn't working. Everton reverted to more of a familiar 4-2-3-1 (substituting McCarthy off and bringing on Lukaku) in the 38th minute, and came back from a goal behind to win. The reality is that many players will struggle with new systems, tempos, instructions, until they get time to practice them...
