2feet
Ive got a transfer budget of 1.2M, just won league one title, promoted to championship, my adequate training facilities were the first thing i wanted to improve, but my board say NEIN. Why? I would like to be able to say to them, please take £400k out of the 1.2M transfer budget youve given me for next season, and use this to improve the training facilties. Is there a way to do this? I requested the upgrade, saying whilst we have money it would be good to improve the facilities, but REJECTED because money is tight. Why is it tight, weve just been promoted?! I tried to get them to improve them via the new contract route, but still rejected.
CFuller
What is your club's bank balance like?
Administrators Neil Brock Posted November 3, 2016 Administrators Share Posted November 3, 2016 Just because a team is promoted doesn't suddenly mean they'll be awash with cash. Look at Yeovil - they made the Championship and now are a lower mid-table League Two club only a few seasons later. A wise board waits to see how the team does before making investments. I was in a similar position to you on FM13, in that I got a team promoted to the Championship with 'adequate' training facilities. When the season ticket money came in, and we had around £5million in the bank, I asked the board to consider improving our facilities. They said that they agreed with my reasoning, but added that they didn't have enough funds at present. I've since found our existing adequate facilities to be, well, adequate for the Championship, although most clubs have more advanced training facilities. I'd wait until your club is fully established and financially secure in the Championship, or maybe even in the Premier League, before you ask the board to improve the facilities again. And for what it's worth, I suspect that upgrading your facilities from 'adequate' would cost more than £400k.
2feet
well the funny thing is i have an agreed philosophy to develop youth. ive signed some players who are uner 21 and some of them are in the first team. The board allowed me to improve youth facilities because that is in line with an agreed philohopy. But i cant improve the main faciliities, even though i have some young players in the first team, and to improve the facilities would be to help them develop! You still haven't told us what your bank balance is. If it's properly healthy and you have a sizeable sum of money available then it's obviously going to be frustrating if the board refuse to spend it on an upgrade. However the flipside is that if the board upgrade your facilities they will cost more to run. Given that you're a newly promoted team there is a good chance that you will not survive in the Championship and that you'll be back down in League 1 next year so the board won't want to do anything that will see them stuck with more expensive facilities when next year you could well be bringing in much less money. Obviously they'll want to see proof that you can stay in the Championship before spending money on the facilities, because they want to avoid a situation where the new facilities are doing nothing more than dragging them into debt if you fail to stay in the Championship. 2feet
it is 303k . Ive never noticed that information before. The entire finance area confuses me in its layout. interstingly i have -172k in transfer debt do you know what that means? i also dont understand why i can have 1.2M in transger funds, but only 303k as a 'bank balance'? whats the difference? Cant i just reallocate some money from my transfer funds into the bank balance?

The transfer debt of £172k is how much money you still owe other clubs for transfers. The £1.2m budget is the amount the board will allow you to spend which at this moment is four times the amount of money the club currently has. The transfer budget IS NOT a separate pot of money, it is simply a number showing you the amount of money the board will allow you to spend. All the money comes & goes from the bank account.
