I think your tactics probably played a major part on the team showing up. I find a key part of strikerless systems is wanting teams to push up on you, then murdering them in the space they leave. Of course, the big teams are the most likely to try and push up and impose their game on you. Which ties into the momentary struggles you had against weak teams standing off. ManUtd1
No tengo trono ni reina, ni nadie que me comprenda, Pero sigo siendo el rey... Leeds United / México 2032/33 Season Review There are no words. To express my joy, and that of the supporters. To express my frustrations at having to leave another side, all too early. To express the relief I feel, knowing that I'm leaving behind a chapter of my life forever tainted by Apples leaving. Like a fool, I left her tickets for the Final. and hope she would show. Of course, she didn't. So it is time to move to pastures new...come on, we both know you've been waiting for the chance to make a sheep joke... The Atletico position is very tempting. I also have an urge to get back to my roots and head to a small side where I can build something up over time. No matter the destination and off-field turbulence of the last 3 years, I will leave Leeds without a hint of regret. Apples and I were destined to fall apart, Leeds simply hastened the process. In my grief, I also discovered a new tactical approach that I've come to adore, and plan to adhere to at my next club. We'll always have the Old Peacock, Toothless Bob. Even if we never understood each other, literally or figuratively. Goals for 2033/34: Lay the foundations in a new city, for the next chapter of this journey. I'm absolutely smitten with the approach, and have sorted it out enough in my head to tinker/tweak it confidently in match and build a team (e.g., what PPMs I want). It feels like it was a short stay, given that I've been playing in spurts and focused on tactics, the latter detracting from some of the off-pitch insanity that I like to have percolating in the background. The good news is that I'm leaving them in great shape - tons of cash in the bank (no debt!), a great young side, a 1st seed into the CL group stage, etc. I'm curious to see who'll take over when I resign and press continue, later today. ManUtd1
Honestly, at this juncture, I'm inclined to defer taking the Atletico position (if it is even offered to me) for a few weeks, to see what else comes up. Panathinaikos or Partizan would be perfect right now. Club Brugge is under review, as their interim manager has been in charge since December. (Edit: I've officially put in for it.) It definitely feels like the point in the narrative where Hakan tries to disappear from the spotlight to something like Panathinaikos/Partizan/Brugge. Granted, I've got Mexico going on, so I couldn't totally disappear. But, the allure of Atletico shouldn't be too strong. ManUtd1
No tengo trono ni reina, ni nadie que me comprenda, Pero sigo siendo el rey... México World Cup Qualifying, June 2033 Mini-Update Escaping Leeds and the furor on the continent was a blessing. El Tri are way to the United States (in Texas) and then Port-au-Prince to face Trinidad & Tobago. The journalists are few, and sleep is a blessing. The mood of the squad is good, as we know that a win over the gringos will mean qualification is all but assured. We annihilate los gringos. 2-0, but it wasn't that close. We make it harder on ourselves in the next match, but a late hat-trick from Barrera gives us 6 wins from 6. I'm heading back to the States for a bit of a rest, and to prepare for a friendly against Canada in 2 weeks, followed by the Gold Cup. Atlético have offered me the job. I've delayed making a decision, though, as I'm thinking long and hard about the next step. Jumping right back into the fray, at a club with a strong squad is appealing on one level. They finished 4th in La Liga last year and present a straightforward task -- take a strong team and lead them to victory. But I'm enjoying the quiet and time away from the spotlight, the anonymity found as a manager here in the States. Maybe somewhere smaller will suit me better, as I move on. From Leeds...and Emma. ManUtd1
Neither Sampdoria nor Frankfurt promoted back into their respective top tiers, so it'll be a wait for someone to get canned. The question being...do I hold out for Panathinaikos or Partizan, or not... EDIT: To clarify, taking over at a club that's dominant (or should be), like Valencia and Atletico is not particularly appealing as my next step (the step after that, though, yes). A smaller side, like Stade de Reims, would be appealing. We'll see what turns up. Going to a smaller nation is preferred, but I won't say no to a smaller/mid-sized side in a big country. ManUtd1
No tengo trono ni reina, ni nadie que me comprenda, Pero sigo siendo el rey... México CONCACAF Gold Cup, 2033 What I looked forward to most in this tournament, was annhilating "los gringos" on their home soil, again. But they went and lost to Costa Rica in the semis. So, in the end, we spent a few weeks in the States beating up on weak North American sides, hardly breaking a sweat. Another trophy goes into the cabinet, at least. And we've risen to 2nd in the FIFA rankings, which boggles my mind. All we've done is beat up on these minor sides... A good summer, no doubt. R7Now
This is incredible. At least you can solace in that the bookies think Pep might be fired from United soon. But, that could make him take the Atletico job, which, even if you don't want it, it would be pretty great. Also, I think Bobby Manc is chasing you. Better watch your back. ManUtd1
No tengo trono ni reina, ni nadie que me comprenda, Pero sigo siendo el rey... México World Cup Qualifying, September 2033 Mini-Update We're going to Argentina. Not that it was ever in doubt. My 2nd XI beat Costa Rica at a canter, before the 1st XI heaped misery upon the United States (who lost to Jamaica a few days earlier). Los gringos missed an early penalty, and it was all downhill from there. It's too early for any jobs to be opening up in Europe, but sometime soon, there could be some movement. ManUtd1
No tengo trono ni reina, ni nadie que me comprenda, Pero sigo siendo el rey... México World Cup Qualifying, October 2033 Mini-Update Well, never let it be said that we are not an entertaining side. Neither Jamaica nor El Tri decided to play defense in Kingston...we lost, but it didn't matter. We're already through. A little break from competitive play now, which will allow me to tend to things on the club side if a job opportunity comes up. We've got friendlies against Sweden and away to Egypt in November, and then it's the holidays.

ManUtd1
It's Not Easy Being Green AS Saint-Étienne / México December 2033 Mini-Update Oh, yes. This suits me quite nicely. A heroic side, all-conquering in the 60s and 70s, since fallen on hard times. Denied a European Cup in the 1976 , losing 1-0 to two-time defending champions Bayern Munich after hitting the crossbar twice in 5 minutes -- the square crossbars of Hampden, which entered the lore of French football that night. Les Poteaux Carrés. Les Verts have been graced by the likes of Aimé Jacquet, Jacques Santini, Laurent Blanc, Dominique Rocheteau and Michel Platini. Giants of French football. Yet, for decades Saint-Étienne defined the quintessential French sporting trait -- finishing second, but doing so with style. No more. This is our time. We will bring the Champions League trophy back to the Stade Geoffroy-Guichard, which some have dubbed "le Chaudron" (the Cauldron) or "l'enfer vert" (the Green Hell). And we'll do it in style, without strikers or wingers. My first match is this evening, the very day of my appointment. Time to get to work. ManUtd1
I've finally hit continue...only to find that I'd forgotten about the World Cup draw. Kind of a busy day in the Upper Loire Valley... All told, a solid draw. Greece should be beatable, and Sweden...well, that's a tougher one on a number of levels. They beat us 4-3 in a recent friendly, where I used extensive subs. So, not a true barometer.

ManUtd1
What a day. Sign on the dotted line, before being whisked away to Brest for my first match. I walked into the changing room 16 minutes before kickoff. Imagine the scene, as I immediately launched into the tactics...dapper as ****, looking like Jared Leto but sounding like the IKEA guy, barking orders about space, movement and a mental formation.
