Linus getting signed by Vikander one day would be almost magical, or the happenstance of Linus joining a potential club and everything falling into place at just the right time.

Or Gustav signing Linus at his next club. Scenes.

Did anyone else see that 2059 episode of The Real Housewives of Nunavut? I really can't believe Android Bot 33.2b could do that to an 84 year old Michael Buble. Such scenes.

And here I am thinking that "reality TV" is bad in this day and age...

SkyNet should never have let this happen, although I'm assuming the system determined that it was a more than adequate opiate for the masses based on it's analysis of the shocking media trends observed in the early 21st century.

December 2061 Mini-Update

Slow settles the dust in Belgrade.

Year 2, and the project is on track.  Listen to me.  I sound like such a pretentious ****.  "Project."  At the very least, people have begun to notice that I may just be a worthy successor to my father.  A "chip off the old block," to use another trite, overused turn of phrase..

I wish I could say that I was dispassionate (or bothered) by Gustav getting sacked at Toulouse.  He got a raw deal.  But I cannot sympathize after all the bitterness they've shown me.  As if I did something, personally, to offend them.

Ignore it, Stana says.  As if it were that easy with the media hounding our every move, setting up this false narrative wherein we're battling at every step.  Truth be told, I'd rather forget they even existed and just focus on Partizan.

We're in tremendous shape.  Top of the table.  Through to the knockout rounds...to face Frankfurt.  A truly brutal draw, and the first time we'll face a club that my father took to Champions League glory.

No one is giving us a chance.  Which is just the type of challenge my father made a career out of -- proving the bastards wrong.

It's early days...but I'm looking forward to this tie.

Sorry for the slight out of context question, but how do you make it show the club's hot prospect? For me it just shows, Manager, Captain, Vice Captain and Key Player.

No worries at all -- this is just the default dark skin, with the wannachupbrew IR overlay.  So, I haven't done anything to make that show up!

If you're on the default skin and it isn't showing up...maybe it's a function of screen resolution/size?

Might be that because I'm just using the default. No skins or overlays. Thanks.

February 2062 Mini-Update

Standing toe-to-toe with the top side in the Bundesliga?

Please.  We beat them.  In the first leg at Ilic Park, at least...and nearly pulled off the massive upset on the return to their stonking new Stadium.  Alas, our PM Kedjad Varg tactics could only take us so far.

Only 2 of my father's former players remained -- Ziogas and Buselic -- but they were a far, far superior side.  We can hold our heads high.

The end result is the same -- we're out of Europe, and about to launch into the final stretch of the Super Liga Preliminary Phase.  8 matches to play, 6 points clear...2 Champions League spots up for grabs.

Time to grab this bull by the horns.

tough one, but the squad seems to be coming along. Do you prefer squad building to a quick win and get out...so basically, did you prefer winning with Fenerbache to West Ham?

I very, very much prefer building a squad -- the one-and-done is manic, but not as enjoyable in the long run.  My favorite stops along the journey have been the longer stays -- Malmo, Fiorentina, Frankfurt and Fener...Reims is right there in terms of enjoyment, but has an asterisk because we didn't even belong in the CL the year we won it.

Meanwhile...we finish the Preliminary Phase 13 points clear of Cukaricki, and thus will start the Final Phase with a six-point advantage.

2061/62 Season Review

Enjoy it, lads.  These are the moments you live for as a footballer.

I'm already plotting, though.  We've got the Champions League qualifiers coming soon...right on the heels of the World Cup.  As much as I'd like to relax and enjoy the spectacle in Canada, there is much work to be done.  We've hit the pinnacle domestically.  Which means that everyone will be gunning for us -- larger sides attempting to poach our players, wandering eyes tempted by a move to a "bigger" league, smaller sides holding us hostage for transfer fees, and a stronger set of opposition waiting for us once the Champions League kicks off.  We've already started poaching players...snatching up Cukaricki's top youth prospects.  I'd feel guilty if it wasn't so easy, I mean...come on, gentlemen.

Yes, there's work to be done.  No relaxing here.  Maybe a little celebration, but nothing too extreme.  Stana claims she's busy this weekend.

Goals for 2062/63: Win the Super Liga.  Reach the Champions League Group Stage.

West Ham reach the final for the 2nd straight year, and celebrate their recent acquisition by a tycoon with a 7-1 annihilation of Juventus (having already won the Premier League title with 99 points, 11 clear of Tottenham).  A 12-minute hat trick from Echeverria just destroyed them.  Wow.

You might want to move the decimal place over one, it's $3,139 per seat.

Frustration, thy name is Gunnar.

Vulevic, my central winger, is off to Dijon after they met his $28.5M release clause.

Gutted.  Equally frustrating, Catalin Liliac, my starting left back and POTY the last two years, has had his $18.25M release clause met by PSG and Bordeaux.

I've also send my backup LB out on loan for the year...and thus need 2 instead of 1.

The silver lining?  I'll be training Jankovic to play as my LB, and he'll be ****ing brilliant.

Canada 2062; World Cup Review

I don't mean to be rude, but...I don't know how to finish that sentence without being rude.

The World Cup was mind-numbingly bad.

giphy.gif

a94749b63818d5598b3a041e0fd920a2.png

Argentina win, defeating France 1-0 in the final which only saw 3 shots on goal.  The only potentially-eligible teams to reach the quarterfinals were the Ukraine and Switzerland.  Hungary managed to get out of the groups, Scotland went out early...Australia and the USA (both of whom I'd love to see eligible) crashed out at the Group Stage.

Just boring.  All around.

On the one hand, it feels very "early."  On the other, it is very tempting since I've been wanting to manage them for years.

Exactly the narrative I'm thinking...I'm just mainly weighing up whether to do it or not.  Partizan isn't an ideal spot for this, given our 6 non-EU player match restriction.

It'd be a longer term project -- most likely looking to the 2070 World Cup.

EXT. HEADQUARTERS, Federación Colombiana de Fútbol. Bogotá – DAY

A beautiful July day in the Altiplano, with the Cerros Orientales looming in the middle distance.  Ambient sounds of this a bustling city gently fill the air.

INT. PRESS ROOM

The FCF crest adorns a podium at the front of the room. Shakira's Greatest Hits (Vol. XIV) plays quietly in the background.

A phalanx of national and foreign reporters feast on the glorious buffet laid out for them, with fountains of coffee flowing like sweet red wine.  Rumors have flown far and wide, even if the subject of all the speculation has remained in Belgrade, refusing any and all comment.  Anticipation fills the air.  HAMPUS LINDGREN, handsome with a salt-and-pepper hipster beard, sits calmly in the front row, enjoying the first non-Starbucks (and thus decent) cup of coffee he's had in months.  A world-weary crinkle adorns his eyes, as the pre-eminent scholar on Telleus awaits what will surely be the next chapter -- a new era, if you will -- in the legacy of Telleus.  His presence all but confirms to the assembled masses that the news today will be as the rumors suggest.

At the stroke of 4, a door to the RIGHT of the podium opens and SEBASTIAN "EL BORRACHO" ESCOBAR, the FCF President quickly strides in, confidence marking his every step with a glowing smile, the smile that won a million hearts and slew a thousand souls.  ESCOBAR reaches the podium and gleefully faces the eager mass of reporters.

ESCOBAR: Buenas tardes, parceros!  Thank you for coming here today.  The announcements will be ... eh ... short.  Los aguardientes, lo mejor.

HAMPUS leans forward eagerly in anticipation, while the rest of the assembled media shout questions.

ESCOBAR: Vale, to the business, first.  The Federación are pleased to announce that the new Meester will be none other than Gunnar Vikander, the son and true heir to the legacy of the great Hakan Telleus, El Sueco Sagrado.

The room erupts in sound.  No further words need be spoken.  The hype has built to a fever pitch.  The articles have been written, they only need be published.

ESCOBAR stands at the front of the room.  Triumphant.  In his eyes, he and he alone has made this happen, and he and he alone shall share the glory to come.  As the sound quiets down, ESCOBAR locks eyes with HAMPUS, the only journalist present who seems to have a question.

ESCOBAR nods in his direction.

HAMPUS (adjusting his glasses): Señor, just one question.  Why Vikander?  Why now?  Shouldn't he be given time to prove himself, beyond 2 years in Serbia?  Shouldn't --

ESCOBAR (interrupting; counting on his fingers): No, no, no...you said the one question.  Now we have... [counting on his fingers again] ... what is this...seven?

HAMPUS: One, three, four...what's the difference?  Isn't it ... premature ... to hire Vikander at this stage of his career?

ESCOBAR: Pre...premature?  What is this...a restaurant that becomes un burdel after the night has fallen?  No, no.  This is the fútbol.  Young Vikander is his father's son, the new Sueco Sagrado.  We have every confidence.  If he no win...then...we no pay? Yes?  Or... [laughing menacingly] maybe he get the ... how you say ... flying lessons?

You can hear a pin drop in the press room.  ESCOBAR has been long-rumored to be the head of Medellin's most vicious drug cartel.  No sane man in Colombia would take that thinly-veiled threat as anything but a promise.  HAMPUS begins to sweat.

ESCOBAR scrutinizes HAMPUS carefully.  HAMPUS  wonders if he can perhaps catch an earlier flight back to Stockholm and is thankful that he packed light.

HAMPUS (chuckling awkwardly): Well...you know...as a Swede myself --

At mention of HAMPUS' homeland, ESCOBAR's face lights up.

ESCOBAR (interrupting):  Sueco?  La chimba, hermano!  Vamos a rumbiar!  Ya estoy prendido... Soy un lobo hambriento!

ESCOBAR gestures to a man in the back, and Shakira once again fills the air.  The press conference obviously over, the journalists begin to file out.  Some, transmitting live to a global audience, sign off with confirmation of the biggest managerial appointment of the summer.

Vikander is going to Colombia.

July 2062 Mini-Update

See as how, on a daily basis, I consume enough coffee to kill a horse...this could be a match made in heaven.

The Colombian FA have been rather...blunt.  After successive generations of brilliant players failing to reach the absolute pinnacle of the game, they need someone to take them the final step of the way.  They want Telleus, and I'm the next best thing.  They wanted to sign me up now, before I become impossible to attract to South America.

I've been given a free hand with tactics.  Well, not quite.  Sebastian wants no strikers.  He thinks they're overpaid...which tells me he doesn't quite understand football, even if his...success...off the pitch is beyond question.

Am I flattered, to think they have this confidence in me?  Yes.  Intimidated by the task at hand?  Maybe a little.

Scared ****less?  Absolutely.

My apologies for the lack of updates! Slammed at work (including travel over the next 5 days) has meant no time to play, and certainly none to update. I'm also struggling a bit with motivation, and have debated running a side save until my work insanity subsides (perhaps a month or more).

I've got a bit of time tonight, so may push on and see where it goes... If I'm in the save, I need to select my first Colombian side and get a CL draw in!

So, I haven't gone away... Just busy and struggling with what to do in terms of FM over the next little bit...
