Love this Indian kid who came through at Genk...shame that he's at a rival, as he'd be a fortune to bring over.  He would be a fantastic shadow striker, though...I may try to unsettle him -- gain a player, weaken an opponent.

His name is Fernandes, which means he probably has a second nationality. You know the drill by now..

Looks like it's Belgium, as his been at Genk all career

The physicals are incredible but his passing and finishing are poor. I'd see how he develops in those areas before making a bid.

For more than $40M (which is what the transfer would cost), I'd agree.  Overall, I'm a big fan of the kid but it seems unlikely to happen.

Then when someone gives a stupid answer...

December 2049 Mini-Update

You can't always get what you want...eternal words of wisdom, those.  I was so happy to see the Basques progressing, that I never stopped to think that they could kick us around, too.

Now, now.  We're still going through to the knockout rounds, but a late own goal on the 6th matchday of the Group Stage meant that we were going through second, with the Basques topping the Group.  Unreal.  And, then, the kicker.  We draw Leeds.

Tootheless/Belgian Bob will reprise his role as a the human half-and-half scarf...poor **** never seems to know if he's coming or going.  But, he's happy.  Content.  So, you can't begrudge him that.

Domestically, we're atop the table with every reason to be optimistic.

Big things are happening in Bruges.

Bayern only got 1p in your group. Love it.

Napoli, Salzburg, Rennes, Tottenham, Athletic, Lyon, Kiev could all become eligible, aye?

They've had a rough few years, and sit mid-table (or thereabouts) in the Bundesliga right now.

Napoli and Lyon are actually ineligible, having won the CL in 2021 and 2046, respectively. The other 5 are all potentially eligible :D

Having sold Ntolla over the summer, ter Avest was the remaining/aging member of my central midfield.  He did his hip in mid-December, so I've pulled the trigger on this Turkish kid to fill his boots:

$12.75M release fee.  He needs some work on his tackling/positioning in particular, but can fill the more aggressive/attacking central midfield position in my tactics.

I like he look of him. With 17 vision at such a young age as well as the 14 in passing and technique, he'll be good. Great physicals as well but needs to improve fitness.

He's a tad older than I'd usual aim for, but that's why! Before Avest got injured, he seemed like a luxury buy in my mind...now, a no-brainer.

March 2050 Mini-Update

Is this the best England has to offer?!  Are you not entertained?!  Football, taught by Hakan Telleus!!!

I'm not too proud to admit that the first leg at the Simons had me a tad nervous.  My former side are 9 points clear in the Premier League, and dominant.  Looking all sorts of impressive in their all-white kits.  Until we kicked their heads in on a rainy day in Bruges.

It should have been 3-nil after 20 minutes.  When they leveled, I was sure that they'd start to put up more of a fight and momentarily distraught at the chances we'd spurned.  I need not have worried.  We were relentless, filled with the righteous certainty and fearlessness you expect to see from a top side.  We should have buried them by more.  When Alonso hit our 5th in the 92nd minute, you couldn't restrain our joy.  A consummate display.  A clinic.

Fair ****s to Leeds, they came to play in the 2nd leg.  But, when Alonso struck on the counter in the 28th, it was over.  Betsy and the lads at the Old Peacock were going to be in for a long night.  Brugge ascendant.  Leeds, looking like the aging hipster, all too aware of how  ridiculous he looks and the judgmental looks of those around him.

Onward we march.  On this form, we can win it all.

3 potentially-eligible teams left in the Champions League -- Tottenham, Rennes and Kyiv.  The latter is quite the long shot, but the other 2 could easily make a run.  It may depend on the draw.

April 2050 Mini-Update

Kyiv have no interest in playing football, in the first leg in Belgium.  Playing a defensive 442 with DMs, the only question was whether we could break them down.  We hit the woodwork twice in the first 45 minutes, close to breaking through but not quite there.

60 minutes in, we've got 28 shots...they haven't put a single shot on goal yet.  Time to bring back Remko ter Avest, in his first full match back from injury.  Let's see if the wily old legs can get something going.

A spell of pass-and-move finds Alonso free in the box ... with a curled, early cross finding him to head home.  1-nil in the 83rd, when it should be so many more.  Not satisfied, we press forward and are on the front foot...less than 90 seconds later, we're up 2-nil, this time Djalo finding Alonso for his 2nd of the match.  Finally, we've broken through and will head to the Ukraine with the advantage.

Dynamo came to play in the 2nd leg, going at us from the first whistle with an attacking 4231.  We adjusted PM Branco di Libero to be more direct, and keep my fullbacks from launching too far forward.  An even match until the 27th when Alonso buries one. 3-nil on aggregate, with the home side now needing to score 4.  We've got one foot in the door lads...provided we don't get overconfident...

Kyiv pull one back right before half...squeaky bum time.  We drop to PM Lupo Incatenato, to shield the back line a bit better...and strangle the comeback in its crib.  We're through to the semifinals, where anything can happen.

United, Tottenham and Frankfurt are through.  We'll face Tottenham.

May 2050 -- Champions League Semifinals

These are the moments we live for, gentlemen.  That make all the sweat and blood worth it.  90 minutes of fury.

Tottenham's manager is my old charge, Paolo Postorino, from the Fiorentina days.  That seems like another life, at times.  He'll be ready for tonight.  They start the first leg in Bruges in a 541 diamond with wingbacks, sitting deep.  We're going to need to break them down.  Another familiar face -- Adama Kone from Frankfurt, lines up at right wingback.  Oh, yes.  They'll be up for it.

I instruct our fullbacks to pick their moments getting forward, and to not rely on a lengthy/deliberate buildup.  Let's be more incisive.

Tottenham look dangerous, but we strike first blood through -- who else -- Alonso, played in by Stojkovic.  Time to see if the London side will come at us, or sit back and try to limit the damage.  We go into the half up 1-nil, but they've smashed one off the post and look dangerous coming forward.

Early in the 2nd half, Tottenham switch to an attacking 343...we counter by shifting to PM Lupo Incatenato, thus shielding the back line with defensive midfielders.  A stalemate ensues.  Until the 71st minute when, off a corner that Tottenham fail to clear, Alonso picks up a loose ball in the box and buries it!!!  Two-nil in a nail-biting match!   20 minutes to play.

Ilyas thunders a ball off the bar in the 82nd...that could have been 3.  I'm honestly surprised the bar is still in one piece.  We hold firm, and will take a two-goal advantage to London.

My 2nd XI are killing us in the League, as Anderlecht draw level with 4 matches to play.  Not good.  But our Kiwi-led rivals are next...once we return from London.

Tottenham line up in an attacking 343 from the outset.  Hold on, lads.  They're coming.  But we're ready.

A Spurs goal in the 15th minute spells trouble.  Another in the 33rd means that our first leg advantage is gone.  We've had a handful of chances, but Spurs are controlling.  We need to shift the balance of the tie.

But we cannot.  A 53rd minute goal from Tottenham, and we appear to be crumbling.  But, in the 55th, we intercept a pass and Allaoui marches forward...finding Stojkovic, WHO BURIES IT!!!  Level on aggregate, ahead on away goals!!!!

You can cut the tension with a knife.  The Spurs support baying for blood, the away support barely able to watch.   Neither daring to dream of the final at the Olympiastadion, while on the pitch the sides clash like heavyweight prizefighters hoping to land the final knockout punch.  But neither side gives.

As Brugge clear a desperate, dangerous cross, the referee has seen enough.  That's time!  Brugge are going to Berlin!

2050 Champions League Final -- Olympiastadion, Berlin

The last time my boys faced off against Frankfurt, it was the fall of 2048.  The Champions League Group Stage.  We drew 2-2 away, and annihilated them 4-1 in Bruges.  They'll be no pushover.  There will be love and mutual respect, but no warm welcome.   This time pays for all.

90 minutes away from banishing the ghosts of the past.  We're far ahead of even my most optimistic schedule, to the point that if Ludwig tries to talk to me about winning the title, I fine him.  He doesn't like that very much, but you have to respect the karmic balance desired by the Football Gods.  The like nothing more than slapping down hubris.

And Frankfurt will come prepared.  They lost the Bundesliga title by 1 point this year, after a run of 4 straight.  They want this trophy.  We have to want it more.

Respect from the Frankfurt support as we take the field.  We'll begin in PM Branco di Libero, with my fullbacks reigned in somewhat.  Frankfurt will begin in a 4141.

Our support are in good voice, with a tremendous tifo honoring the heroes of 1978 who defeated KuPS, Panathinaikos, Atletico and Juventus en route to the final against Bob Paisley, Kenny Dalglish and Liverpool.  Chills run down Telleus' spine, turning to steely determination. Tired legs throughout his XI, Telleus knows that guts are what will see Brugge through the next 90 minutes.

20 minutes in, and we're quiet.  Barely anything working.  Some tweaks have been made, the only question being whether they will pay off.  30 minutes gone.  It's been almost all one-way traffic, in favor of Ze Germans.

Frankfurt are dominant at the start of the 2nd half.  We drop to PM Lupo Incatenato, as we're in danger of being overrun.  Two big saves from Berezin have kept us in the match.  We clear to Stojkovic, who launches a Hollywood ball 40+ yards over the top to Alonso, who takes a touch...
