Was anyone playing in the top league during those years? Maybe those clubs were demoted for financial reasons and couldn't come back up for a few years?

Here are the years "missing" in the Panathinaikos history:

667427f4965e778650b4c488c71c99ce.jpg 1770acaa695f1139b1e3a802282a15cf.jpg ef3e37fa107833a8c40800aac9c54d02.jpg

So, it's some kind of glitch.  Also, when a team is relegated into a league that isn't loaded, they still get assigned a final position even if the Win/Loss/etc isn't recorded.

Asteras' screenshot (from above) is the perfect example.  Their history shows that they won the 2nd tier in 2035/36, finishing first.  But shows them in the Football League with no final position in 2019/20 and 2021/22, even though they were in the Superleague those years (finishing 5th both times).

Bit of an ageing squad for Ireland.

Yeah, but there seem to be comparable players coming through behind this batch.  We'll see how they fare in World Cup Qualifying.

I open my eyes, but quickly shut them as the pain erupts.  The light is too bright.  My head is pounding.  My jaw...won't move properly.  I can feel the blood trickling down my chin, but cannot move.  My right leg isn't responding the way it should.

Somewhere off in the distance, I can hear the sounds of the crowd at the Nuevo Mestalla, baying for blood.  The nausea rises again.  I hear footsteps but cannot turn my head without blinding pain shooting through my neck.

Why am I lying on the cold, hard concrete?  Kickoff is imminent...

Ludwig.  That must be him, coming to find me.  I should be out there...on the touchline...why...

The footsteps draw closer, and I hear the cold, piercing shriek of metal scraping on concrete.  Coming closer.

As the darkness welcomes me with a warm embrace, a raspy voice whispers, "Shakira says hello."

Pain becomes me.

It was touching of the lads to come visit in the hospital, even if I was under the fog of heavy pain meds.

Have to say, the headlines in the British papers were a little tasteless...sure, we beat the **** out of them, but it seems a little soon to be joking about my lads "assaulting the Valencian goal as if wielding a metal chair" jokes.  It hasn't even been 24 hours, for ****'s sake.

The highlight of this thread by far is the fact that Liverpool STILL haven't won the league.

Steven Gerrard is sat in a retirement home somewhere in the Wirral only able to say one very short word on repeat "Ba".

**** off, Ludwig.  It isn't the pain meds.

The keepers are taking free kicks.  Trust me.

Why?  Because I ****ing said so, that's why, you -- Ludwig....no, Ludwig, come back.

I didn't mean it.  That was the drugs talking.

Seriously.  Trust me.  If it doesn't work, we'll go back to more conventional methods, ok?

Shh now....no more talking...I can see the colors...

Read the whole thread over a few sittings and your success has been great.

Is there any team in particular that you'd like to become eligible in the future whether that's club or country?

Thanks for reading and commenting, man!  Great question.

Two clubs that I'd love to take over -- Sevilla and Athletic, who I have a particular affinity for, from time I've spent in Spain.  Beyond that, there isn't any specific club I'm hoping for...I've had great fun with Hearts and Falkirk in the distant past, but they're almost certainly never going to become eligible.  Torino, as I would like to see them succeed.

All of that being said, I get really excited when clubs from leagues outside the top few nations (e.g., someone like Fenerbahce) are in the late stages of the Champions League.  Just, please...no more English teams!

In terms of nations...I would love to see a sub-Saharan African nation become eligible, or the USA.  Any Scandinavian country would be great, too.  I'm still very excited about in-game eligible Colombia and Turkey, even though I haven't gotten around to them yet.

What would you do if you were somehow able to complete all eligible clubs and nations before another one could become available? Would you go on holiday and wait it out or would the save be over?

Excellent question...I haven't thought that far...maybe holiday 5-10 years and see who is eligible.  If no one, I'd probably call it at that point.  Hard to say, really.

At the end of the day, the Slovakia/Hungary projects will take a very long time so I doubt I'll have to make that decision!

That moment, being wheeled out of the tunnel to take up my familiar position on the touchline, was magic.  It seemed as if all of Monaco were there at the Delio Onnis.  Even Bob, dancing maniacally behind the bench...the roar of the crowd, thirsty for revenge for their manager.  I'd be lying if I didn't say it put a smile on my face.

I stayed there.  On the touchline.  In my wheelchair, with the nurse (not an actual nurse, mind you...she certainly didn't *need* that stethoscope).  The full 90.

The crowd loved it.  Their manager still battered.  Bruised.  One eye still swollen shut.  Right leg in a splint.  Fighting.  Willing the side forward with every grimace and groan.

There's nothing about an exploded orbital socket that will stop me from the pitch.

We run amok.  Into the quarterfinals.

April 2052 Mini-Update

We always knew that Anderlecht was a straightforward draw, and we took the match right at that Kiwi ****.  5-1 on aggregate.  A beautiful display.

Our form in Ligue 1 is suffering as our 1st team has been focused on the Champions League.  While we're far from the favored side, we might as well give it our best shot.  We will face 1 or 3 English sides in the semis...and it's United.  A tough draw, but not impossible.  And, on the whole, Leeds or Tottenham would likely be a tougher draw.  It's the Champions League semifinal...it's supposed to be tough.

Meanwhile, we drew a great group in the Euros -- Portugal, Wales and England.  The final match - the Auld Enemy derby -- will likely determine who goes through to the knockout rounds.  Beautiful.

The days are long and painful, with my hours at the club supplemented by painstaking physical therapy.  I'm almost out of the wheelchair, although the physicians doubt I'll walk unassisted again.  Law enforcement claim to have no leads, but I've hired a private investigator.  I did not imagine that raspy whisper...someone knows my secret, and is still angry all these years later.  And, more to the point, wants some kind of revenge on behalf of the sultry Colombiana.  Gerard Pique retired from Spain a decade ago, and I cannot imagine that he still bears a grudge.  But, he's 65...I cannot imagine he had the strength to carry out this attack.  It's all very...confusing.

Sad to report, @Jimbokav1971 and @BoxToBox that, with the tapering of his pain meds, Hakan has backed off on the "keepers taking free kicks" edict.  Nothing was coming of it, and we gave up 2 goals in 5 matches despite having 3 players set to stay back (no matter what, not if needed).

Utterly shameful behavior.  Linus, caught boozing on a free night in the city...not because we caught him.  He accidentally sent Emma a selfie video.  She wasn't pleased.

I've fined him 4 weeks' wages.  Not acceptable.  And I can't have the lads thinking I'll go easy on him just because he's my son.

To be fair, it is a tasty looking beverage...

It's not about having 3 players set to stay back. You need to have a multi-tiered system giving you the greatest opportunity to recycle the ball. Having 3 players set to stay back just means that there is a gap between you attackers and the 3 and if the ball is cleared to this gap then you are in trouble because the 3 keep backing off, the GK retreats immediately, (even if the ball is cleared directly to him), and your other players can't get back goal-side. Rather that staying back an instruction that allows them the freedom to occupy space is probably better, (but it doesn't actually exist), so what other options do you have?

So, something like this is what I'd suspect -- 2 staying back, 2 staying back if needed, 1 short option, 2 to disrupt the wall (and pick up loose balls), with 3 in the box:

(Taking it short so that, unless he's having a crack at goal, we're generally maintaining possession.)

May 2052 -- Champions League Semifinal 1st Leg, Old Trafford

A tough match, no question.  United's fortress of Old Trafford.  A venue where I'd previously battled against the likes of Guardiola and Mourinho.  We set out in PM Lupo Incantenato, seeking to catch them on the break.  United are in an aggressive 4231 all night...we hold firm.  Except for a silly free kick that Jarvis buries in the 58th.  Right as I'm about to make a switch, to go slighly more aggressive, the unthinkable happens.  We give up a penalty.  It's the 68th minute.  That could be the tie.

But Fortich...bloody Fortich, that Colombian giant, our captain...pulls off the save of the year.  We're still in this lads!

We switch to PM Lupo Rabbioso...and win a penalty in front of the Stretford end.  86th minute.  Gaillard, our libero...our stalwart in the back...smashes it into the top left corner.

Back to PM Lupo Incantenato, and we see out the tie with ease.  Old Trafford stunned.  Monaco, dreaming of a trip to the Luzhniki.  If we can seize the advantage back at the Delio Onnis.

May 2052 -- Champions League Semifinal 2nd Leg, Delio Onnis Arena

90 minutes from an improbable final with an away-goals advantage.  We set out in our default tactics, and generally nullify United in the 1st half...except for when Vlaciu smashed the post from distance, having created an opportunity from nothing.

With 20 minutes to play, United go hyper aggressive, we counter with Incatenato, knowing that this scoreline will see us through to Moscow.

Until Darwin Londoño, our other Colombian gem, sneaks through to bury one in the 85th against the run of play.  That's the tie.

My 3rd straight final.  With 3 different teams.  This is absurd.

Honestly, this is a potential disaster.  I will (as always) be playing to smash the opposition to bits.  But, winning would ruin some well-laid plans for Monaco/Scotland.

My time at Monaco would be done.  I hoped to get through the Group Stage, but that's all.  I've been signing young Scottish talent (both last year and this Spring) to fuel the Scotland national team.  Next year, I had planned on having 10+ Scots in my first team, FFS!  The Scotland project would be dealt a major blow.

And, equally awful...Spurs would become eligible.  It was only yesterday that I said I didn't want to see any more English sides become available!  Why have you forsaken me, RNGeebus?!?!

June 2052 -- Monaco, Brief Squad Overview

Before diving into the final, I wanted to give you guys a quick look at the squad from this past season.  Frankly, it's not bad.  Our biggest weakness is at fullback.  But, I've been planning a complete overhaul that is imminent -- lots of kilt-wearing young Scotsmen need time on the pitch to learn my tactics...if I'm even managing Monaco by this time tomorrow...

We're a small side -- somewhat on purpose.  Mainly because I didn't expect any real run in Europe, and I wanted to keep our wage budget down.

Fortich and McClaren are my two keepers.  I've got a brilliant young French keeper who spent the past season as Stoke's No. 1 (on loan).  Fortich has been a mainstay of Colombia's national team for years, while McClaren has the potential to be Scotland's future.  McClaren will come to Sweden this summer, to ride the bench

Gaillard and McCabe are my two liberos.  Both have been very slow to learn the position, but I love McCabe for the future -- he'll be coming to Sweden, as a backup.

Millet and Delgado have been my first-choice fullbacks.  Paterson and Donnelly are Scottish prospects, in my 2nd XI.  Much better long-term prospects.

Arroz and Morales are my central midfielders.  Dickov and Allende are the backups.  Dickov will come to Sweden as a backup for the Scotland side.

Up top, Londoño is my first-choice deep-lying targetman, flanked by Clovis and Rocha in my 1st XI.  Romero, Misee and Maxwell are the backups.  Clovis and Rocha are off in the summer, on free transfers elsewhere.  With Clovis injured for the final, I plan to play Misee, who is a star for the future.

Tottenham start in an ultra-defensive 541 diamond.  We're playing our standard PM Branco di Libero.

The first half-hour is low-key.  Neither side gaining a foothold.  We nearly gain a penalty in the 28th, but the ref deems the foul to have taken place on the edge of the box.  Lodono stands over it...smashes it into the wall ... the deflection falls to Millet WHO IS WIDE OPEN ... HE HITS IT STRAIGHT AT KNIGHTS FROM YARDS AWAY!  IT SHOULD BE ONE-NIL TO MONACO!

39th minute, a long clearance from Knights is headed down by Dogyi...Misee gathers and lays it off for Rocha, who has Delgado overlapping him on the left ... he swings it wide ... Delgado chips it over the defense to an onrushing Lodono...Misee making a run in the middle...
