Jarrow Roofing
Wait for FW 5.0 Earlier this week, we heard that Sony had already - supposedly! - released the upcoming PSP firmware 5.0 to developers for them to test out. To keep you guys updated on this rumor, we finally hear from PSPGen the list of features that are coming with FW 5.0. Roll in the list!Access to PlayStation Network. No, not PlayStation Store... PlayStation Network. This feature will make it possible for gamers to connect to Sony's online network and play, not via ad-hoc, but via PSN. New RSS reader. The new RSS reader is to be added and will now supposedly allow the reading of text, as opposed to just images, videos, and sounds. Integrated Screen capture function. No need for homebrew apps (iR Shell, etc.) to take screenshots anymore. Looks like Sony's building the screen capture into the system already. Sweet! PSPGen notes that this is a beta version of the new firmware. The only purpose Sony supposedly released this is so that studios developing upcoming games can see if they can work out the new features and bring it into their games. Heck, not all XMB functions are even made available in this beta version - Sony just really wanted the devs to try out the new features. Again, note that this is not just a rumor for now, but a rumor of a beta version of the firmware - which makes it twice that hard to place. Given that it's a beta version, it means that Sony may change it when they release the final build.
nerner
i guess its better than trying to make your own pandoras battery and burning your hands.
LSD
Well... As much as Sony rock, I hate the beta tests PlayStation Home is STILL in beta which has been put back again and again! Let's hope they get this right

Feddemaster
To unlock the full potential of the PSP everyone should have a custom firmware on his system!

LSD
Some more info about OFW5.0 Bear in mind, this may or may not be confirmed by Sony themselves. However, the PSN Director has stated direct PSN access so that is obviously true. Direct PSN access. Yep, the PSP finally gets its native PlayStation Store. With FW 5.00 you can access Sony's online network directly from your PSP via Wi-Fi - you can register a PSN account (if you haven't yet - SHAME!) or manage your profile and settings. This also means direct download of games, media, and content from the store - no need for the PC Store anymore! Just a note, the same wallet and account can be used interchangeably for the PSP and PS3; there's no need to create a new account for the PSP Store. Just so you don't get surprised, the PC Store will be under maintenance while they get the PSP Store online.Sleep timer option. Some of you have probably seen this many times before as a feature in some of the more ubiquitous music player homebrew projects in the community, but now, Sony's building it into the system already: the feature allows you to play music and set a sleep timer. Full screen keyboard option for text input. Self explanatory. Redesigned XMB background. 'Nuf said. (Wonder what it looks like though - they didn't show any screenshots...) LSD
Just a bit more... A leak in an unnamed French development studio today has confirmed the existence of official firmware version 5.0 for the PSP. The new firmware also includes hooks for developers to implement a screenshot function in their games; the feature will only work in games whose devs have implemented it via a new library. The PLAYSTATION Network is coming to the PSP next week -- at least in Japan. Firmware 5.00 will be available on October 15th (Tomorrow, in Japan remember)
Koppol
Sounds good. Lets just hope its a succes in japan.

LSD
Also, if you look at my post up there in bold... Lukaboi
I noticed that earlier but I didn't get it, does it mean you can only take screenshots on games that ther creators have allowed you to?
LSD
It means if the developers implement the capability to take screenshots then the PSP will be able to... Otherwise, they won't!

Jarrow Roofing
Looks like we have to wait a little longer for screenshots
LSD
You know Sony love secrecy... My theory is when Sony heard about the information leak they withdrew the screenshot function only to place it into a later version firmware like 5.05 or something
ComeontheArsenal
Shame, i was really looking forward to that, it would save me having to type up all my tables, transfers, formation etc. Oh well, i don't mind that much, i quite enjoy it
Jarrow Roofing
Screenshots would only work on games that included them in the making, so unless FMH09 has it then you would have to wait till FMH10 aparently
nerner
So if you get FW 5 you can take screenshots, but only on games that support it. But Custom Firmware is still the best.
