Hello!

A quick question to everyone, how many tactics in a season do you use?

When starting a save i always create 3 tactics, Normal, Attacking & Defensive. However, i normally just stick to one tactic throughout the season. Is it more beneficial to use more than one? Do you have a home and away tactics?

I always create 2, one control tactic for Home games and when I'm Favourite to win, and a Counter one for Away games and when I'm underdog,  they are the same formation but different mentalities and instructions.

How does that work for you?

I create 3 shapes and adapt my formation and roles to each game I play to stay unpredictable and to try and play myself to their weakness.

For example if they have 5 at the back, I'd personally go strikerless and play a 4 3 3  0 narrow. I'd play central to their 5 at the back cause I know they will have a man less in that central of the park and drags one of them out to try and cover for that spare man which makes it easier for my players to slot a through ball in.

For as long as I can remember I've only ever used one, but that doesn't mean I don't change things in each match. But they're usually simple things - play wider, drop deeper, more direct passing or retain possession. Less frequently, I'll change mentality - I usually start on control, but might go to counter if we're leading and under the cosh, or attacking if I need a goal. I'm too lazy to create multiple versions, and too absent-minded to keep track of which version is selected in the tactics screen. I'm sure there's a small price to pay in familiarity but it doesn't seem to amount to much over the course of a season.

I'm a bear of simple brain and, therefore, like simple tactics and simple changes.
