In a word, no. Advocaat's team of 1999/2000 would wipe the floor with the current side. And I mean no disrespect to the side of today.
Muzzza
Agree, its not the strongest at all, but its a damn hard working side thats for sure. Oh to get that Advocaat team back, joy to watch.
Peacemaker7
Originally posted by Rdysn5:Would you bears say this is the strongest Rangers team you have ever seen in your time supporting them? We weren't all born in the past ten years you know What I will say is this the first side really since possibly Jock Wallace's sides of the mid-late seventies and Smiths side in the early nineties that I really actually like the look off, as well the early days of Advocaats reign. Fraz though I think is older than me and probably go back to the 1964 side or the 1930's Also, as fond as I am becoming of this group of players, they have won nothing yet and still have it all to prove. TM
was going to say the Advocaat team as well, amazing to think that teams with players like Gio, Albertz, Mols, Reyna etc never qualified for the Champions League last 16 and Eck's bunch who weren't anywhere near their class did in 1999 though, before Mols got injured, we really were some team this team are a bit strange, not the class of the Advocaat team, but the team togetherness, grit and determination is just proving the factor to getting the results we've got. I doubt any of us would have expected to get 7pts from 3 CL games when you look at how we played in the first two CL qualifers teams with Gazza and Laudrup didn't come close to what this team have achieved in the last month either and they two had masses of talent, but it just never happened in Europe
Peacemaker7
I think the thing about this team though is - there are no stand out, prima donna type players. Laudrup was surely one of the best players to play for us, but at times we relied far too much on him. In many ways though this side reminds me of the 1992-93 side Smith. It's got guts and tenacity and is very hard to beat. (Unless you're Hearts but that was a fluke). Advocaats teams were without doubt packed with talent - I'm not convinced they had the character of either this side, Smiths in 1992-93 or indeed the legendary Jock Wallace's side. If they had then who knows what they might have achieved? And you know, can we even say they had harder draws in Europe? Perhaps they didn't carry the 'luck' this side has, but then I think at times you make your own luck and the current side certainly works hard for it, doesn't it. It's way too early to tell, but in ten years we might look back on this team and hail them as one of the best we've ever had. Then again, they might end being a bunch of bottlers and we'll wonder what we ever saw in them
FrazT
Fraz though I think is older than me and probably go back to the 1964 side or the 1930's Now the 60s I will admit to but not even I go back to the 30s. First game attended was in 1952 so for me the best team I watched was the team of Ritchie, Shearer and Caldow, Greig McKinnon and Baxter, Henderson, McMillan, Millar, Brand and Wison- note the unique formation of 2-3-5( it will never catch on ) The early 90s team with Goram. Gough, Butcher, Gascoigne, McCoist, Hateley and my all time favourite Laudrup etc would run it very close. The current team doesnt yet have the creativity to be in the mould of a great team, but I have seldom seen a Gers team work so hard and be so well organised when they dont have the ball. lovenkrands01
Alan Cafutton is probably the first name on the team sheet. Close to being that important for his country too. Look how Murty got on in his place in the last game.

Gary Toner
By "The Blonde Hutton" I take it you mean Smith, If so you're gonna be waiting a while yet before he is anywhere near the first team. I'd hazard a guess at after Christmas

McD
First away game of the season for me today. God knows why, as it's all set up for a defeat. FrazT
Words fail me again: From the BBC website: Webster injury jinx strikes again Webster has played just one match since his move to Ibrox Rangers defender Andy Webster is facing a second operation on the knee he injured in January. The Scotland international suffered the injury in the first training session following his loan move from Wigan. The 25-year-old recovered and made a scoring debut in the 4-0 win over Gretna on 1 September but an ankle injury saw him sidelined again. However, the knee injury is still causing concern and he may have to go back under the knife. Ibrox manager Walter Smith said: "There is a little bit of cartilage causing him a problem and he may need to go back in and get it tidied up. "It's the knee he had the operation on in January. He had done the rehab, then damaged his ankle ligaments, was out for six weeks, now he has come back and is getting this pain again. "He has not had the best of luck because, although it's a straightforward tidy up, you are looking at another four or five weeks before he is back again." Meanwhile, fellow defender Stevie Smith is also facing the prospect of more surgery following two operations on the pelvic injury that has kept the 22-year-old out of action since December. "Stevie's still having a problem. He has been at a specialist in Germany and we are waiting on the results," added the manager. "It might be he will need another operation on his hernia because it has been causing him a bit of bother. "The frustrating thing is he has done all his rehab fine. It's just in games when he kicks a ball that he is getting a problem."
Number 7
Skippy, skippy, the Gers hate you now! Second succesive home league hat-trick for McDonald yesterday, bet your gutted he wasn't allowed to go to Mordor.
FrazT
Todays team: McGregor Hutton, Weir, Cuellar and Papac Beasley, Ferguson, Faye, Thomson and McCulloch Cousin Subs: Carroll, Boyd, Novo, Naismith, Whittaker, Lennon and Furman.
TM
Faye surprised we couldn't play 2 upfront with Naismith partnering Cousin. Not looking forward to this game as we have been awful against Dundee Utd at Tannadice in recent years and they are in good form with winning 3-1 away to Hearts, being 4th and not having conceeded a home goal this year
FrazT
At least if it is 4-5-1, the 2 wide players ( Beasley and McCulloch ) are attacking and will support Cousin. The fact that we are not confident will probably mean that we wiill cruise it today- at least that is the theory
Number 7
I think Rangers will win 2-0. Meaning, Celtic will be top by 2 goals 3 in a row? I think so! Championeeeeees, Championeeees.
TM
seems I was right, Faye should just retire as a footballer what was Walter thinking when he got this carthorse on loan? pretty much most passes he made in that half were going astray or going to Dundee Utd DMB looks up for it and we could use his pace, but Hutton has been a bit subduded and unable to provide his usual support. Faye off for Novo/Naismith and give Cousin a partner

The smaller side are the ones that cause me concern. Our players simply dont get themselves going. Kick Piracy Out Of Gaming
Got dundee at 9/2 in a double with everton Fair play to united, played very well and deserved it. Quite what goes through smith's head when he plays 451 when not in a european game is beyond me
TM
Novo at least showing that he cares and the guy was diving about anyway anyway.....that was pish, how many times am I going to say this after European games - Europe can go to **** if this is how we are going to play after it, the title is the priority not a run in the CL I just hope Walter actually blames his tactics for once, 4-5-1 and playing Faye is not the way to play Dundee Utd, but he'll probably blame Europe as an excuse despite having 4 days off. Playing high balls to carthorses like Dods and Wilkie will not work as they can win those, play the ball on the ground and they don't have a clue - but I'm not the manager so we decided to hump high balls for 90 mins Dundee Utd deserved the win though as they had more hunger and did a lot more than we did, probably didn't help that we lost the penalty after we got back into the game but that's just how it goes I guess those are the games you need to win to get titles, it's all great winning your home games, but away games are where the points come from and we are just making a complete mess of them recently
