SI Staff Ter Posted January 14, 2008 SI Staff Share Posted January 14, 2008 Steven Smith played the first half hour of a closed door reserve match this morning against Motherwell with no problems We won 1-0 with Lennon getting the goal btw.

ATW
The amount of rain that has fell lately and the fact our pitch is lower than the clyde meaning they'd be drainage problems. There isn't much that can be done. I think people call it bad karma to be fair. After the slating St Mirren got, this was so going to happen. Although, at least it will mean that Ibrox won't be a Sandbox at this time of year like it has been in recent years.

ATW
Not bad since it has seen more "football" than any other. Thanks for asking. Although it will have 9 weeks of constant playing on it. Due to be re-laid when we get a chance.

ATW
Unfortunately Motherwell have nothing to do with that. Depends if Gretna have paid their bills which they had problems with last month.
SI Staff Ter Posted January 16, 2008 SI Staff Share Posted January 16, 2008 According to the Record, Kevin Thomson is doubtful for tonight with a recurring groin problem and will see a specialist tomorrow to see if he requires surgery. Bit of a blow if he'll be missing for a month or so.

While we have Hemdani who can play that role - he's not as aggressive which could cause us problems centrally. A chance for Furman to make the step up? It will leave us a bit thin in central midfield with only Ferguson, Hemdani and, er, Amdy Faye in that position. I'd definitely prefer to see Furman play than Faye though. JCD also banned for 3 European games...I suspect we'll appeal using Kallstrom's own testimony. So he'll miss both games against Panathinaikos and either the first game of the next round or the first European match next season. It's his own fault really for being stupid. He would probably have been injured anyway.

RedRob
Its not like he got a really long ban, 3 games for violent conduct is the norm, so that punishment shouldnt, and I dont think will, change.
McD
Month without KT would be a blow, especially given the number of games we're facing. We've been great at dictating the pace and flow of games in recent weeks and he's integral to that. Guess Adam could come in there too, but it's not ideal. GingerFurball
3 games is right. The fact that he may have been frustrated shouldn't come into it, stamping should not be tolerated.

SI Staff Ter Posted January 16, 2008 SI Staff Share Posted January 16, 2008 Well he's not in the team tonight, so it looks like there is some truth to it. Adam plays in his place. Whittaker and Papac full backs. Rest unchanged.

TM
not a surprise we didn't get a pen there, it's Ian "worst ref in the world" Brines probably get about 6 pens denied tonight and 3 goals chopped off as he is abysmal - asleep for the equaliser though, silly defending

McD
Take 2-1 no problem. Didn't really get going, but the two players missing made a difference and if Burke remembered the main role of a winger is to cross the ball, we could have been three, four up by half-time. Will have to show more against an in-form Caley side on Sunday, but, hey, four points!
SI Staff Ter Posted January 16, 2008 SI Staff Share Posted January 16, 2008 Thought it was a decent enough performance, although Gretna gave us a few scares. We struggled with their long balls which Deuchar won most of the time. Thought Burke and Naismith were excellent in the first half and were unlucky. Loved Burke's run where he put the afterburners on but couldn't finish. Could have had a couple of pens as well, especially the one where Naisy wasn't offside and the ref had pointed to the spot. Got another tough game on Sunday, so hopefully we can grind out a result then. Get Boyd and Novo involved. JCD was pish tonight when he came on. ATW
Yeah and the two stone wall penalties we never got when we decimated you earlier this season at Fir Park (Stephen Hughes, what a ***ing player) Fir Park didn't help you either. Game ended 1-1 I believe... oh wait... Last season, was mostly the same. Season before Ferguson hand ball TWICE in the first half, and failed to punish. Really... Frankie
Thought we did well at times but lacked cohesion and sharpness also - understandably so given our enforced break. It didn't surprise me that Gretna were a wee bit stronger and sharper but I was disappointed that we struggled so badly with the good Doctor. Nonetheless we had the bulk of the game and the chances so ran out deserved winners with two superbly taken goals. ATW: I think the point people are making about Brines is that he is awful for all teams. Generally he doesn't keep up with play well enough and confuses us all with the decisions he makes. Last night we didn't get two stonewall pens while his standside linesmen also had a nightmare. It's quite frankly incredible that the officials who are continually causing problems are not held to account. Brines is just one - there are more. ATW
19-04-2003: Rangers 4-3 Motherwell (Cracking game Thumbs Up ) Two things sum up the emotions of that game The Good, World Class, Cheekiness of the Bottom Club Motherwell:- McFadden's equaliser was simply brilliant. When Clarkson played the ball in from the right and Steven Pearson laid it off to McFadden, Pearson was hit late by Amoruso. The arms were just starting to rise for the penalty claim when McFadden, 16 yards from goal on the right, curled the ball high into Stefan Klos's net. And the reason why we were bottom The lead would have been doubled but for a moment of overexcitement by Clarkson. Just 17, the forward found himself alone when Craig's cross from the right came to him eight yards from goal, but he snatched at the attempt and hit the ball wide.
