What did everyone think of Ferguson's performance today? I thought he was our best player over the 90 minutes. Not hard really. He seemed to be at the centre of everything we did. Covered every blade of grass. One of his better performances. However, he should have been the first player up taking a spot kick. Setting the example to rest, instead, he took the cowards route.

I thought again he was poor, not as bad as in Bremen but him and Hemdani have been drunk in the last two games it seems or something

quite happy he didn't take a penalty tbh, I remember him missing 2 against Dundee in the 2003 treble year and I just thought he would have missed today - was happy to see Burke was off as well before them as he was almost certainly going to miss

I was first to stick up for Barry after Bremen, but today his passing was just not good enough. He seemed to be trying, but it wasn't always happening for him. Same with Davis in first half although he gradually improved. Not worst player on park, but has played a lot better

He just can't play that role. And with someone like McCulloch up front alone, it is so much harder because he does not have the mobility of Cousin/JCD. Walter needs to have a good hard look at his domestic tactics because it was clear for all to see we played so much better when we went 4-4-2.

And also when Boyd was on the park

certainly get the Partick QF off I reckon - just wonder if we might play Boyd in that as his confidence will be sky high right now

Hopefully in both cases. I shall be going to the match. Hoping to spot the lesser seen Fleck icon_cool.gif and the League Cup icon_cool.gif

Yup tbf I've tried to defend Burke in the past, he does have a great deal of talent but the harsh fact is he cannot turn it on week in week out and needs to be moved on along with his buddy Adam and quite a few others. I can see there being a fair bit of movement in the summer tbh.

Well true he wasn't the worst, Step forward Christophe Burke & Lee McCulloch to name 2.

Name one single game where you've thought McCulloch has been MotM. I can't think of any. icon_frown.gif </div></BLOCKQUOTE>

There was a game at the startish of the season when he scored two, can't remeber who against. He's ok if played off the wing, just not up front icon_mad.gif

Burke reminds me of Nuno Capucho, all the talent but no end product (and consistency) icon_frown.gif

Some game today. At times thought we had blown it and we were awful in the first half. Well done Kris Boyd though, fantastic goals.

Roll on Wednesday! I'm off to read the match thread.

Tbf to Capucho though, he was a decent enough player in his day - Burke's never had his day.

the thing that really frustrated me about Burke today was his reluctance to take on the man - I think it was Kalvanes? Dailly, Broadfoot and Davis all took him on at one point in the game and got the cross in

Burke seemed to want to pass the ball back every time which shows a lack of confidence. With McCulloch, I didn't hear his name mentioned until the move where the Boyd first goal came from icon_biggrin.gif it must have been at least 25 minutes between his last touch before that as well

The thing with Adam which I like is he tries to do the unexpected, whereas we have no one else to do that (Buffel & Gow spring to mind, but Walter rates neither's attitude). He seems to be working a bit harder of late, if only he had some pace.

Adam might be a decent player if he could run.

No idea what Burke's problem is though, probably thinks he only has to turn up. He's not exactly a kid anymore, and quite honestly can't see he has much of a future at the top level as he is unlikely to improve much more. Shame, but thats life, get rid of him and find someone else.

The problem with that is that he does it far to often and it doesn't come off, leaving us with bodies forward and everyone having to sprint back when he gives the ball away.

He needs to get back to basics and improve his decision making. Try playing the simple ball more often rather than the complicated pass. Then he can more carefully pick his moment for the killer pass / shot when there is less danger of giving the ball away and putting his team under pressure.

I hate that, even worse when after they have went down under a light challenge they decide to go on the huff and stand with there arms up in the air while the other chap is off running at our goal….

It's like instead of the smart come back banners they should try one that actually means something, like a big one saying

“laying on the ground after a girly tackle, Don’t be a burke!â€

can't believe that he earns £10k+ a week tbh, I know we have Beasley to come back in the summer but I really hope this time we do go out and find somebody to be the creative source - preferrably on the right, although an AMC to play off 2 strikers would be acceptable as well icon_smile.gif

Another day, the same comment: Biggest robbery since Brinks Mat.

Good result, poor performance again. Altho it is thought by some to be a "diddy" cup, it is still silverware and for many of yesterdays team, it may have been their first trophy so I think it did mean a lot to most of the players.

In truth, I didnt understand the starting lineup, altho what is to be expected from a team with 6 central defenders in it- hardly going to be cavalier football. The first half was shocking- Burke was lost on the left wing, always cutting inside and when he went to the right- always cutting inside?? He had no confidence in tryinmg to beat the fullback and was a complete waste of space. Ferguson was invisible for the most part ( 14 minutes to touch the ball in the first half ) and Hemdani was poor. McCulloch tries hard but is clearly not suited to a up front on his own role altho I am equally not sure where he is suited to. Boyd must really wonder what he has to do to get a game. I think that everyone accepts that he is also not good with his back to goal playing on his own, but surely there is a place and formation for a player with such a goalscoring record. Smith obviously rates Boyd about 5th in line for the starting lineup which is puzzling. Our greatest ever goalscorer, McCoist, wasnt a complete footballer either but took chances and scored lots because he had another forward up with him to provide chanceas and split the defence.

I have said all along this season that we are crying out for a creative midfielder-not a ball winner as we have them but someone who can do something different when we do have the ball. I wonder also what Buffel has to do to get a game- maybe on Wednesday?

1 down, 3 to go!

Surely with all the money we've been pulling in that can't be the reason why we're not playing him?

Dunno why we bother with such clauses since we always seem to wince out when it gets near time to paying up. IE, the Ball situation a few years back.

I'm sure the thinking is why bother paying up when we're trying to get the player out the door. The fact is if Buffel dropped his wage demands then he would have left Rangers a long time ago.

Would he not be more sellable and worth more if he was playing? He is worth he-haw at the momnet

He's got the same problem as Gow where he's so far down the pecking order it's hard to get a chance to show what you can do. It's not easy as well when all you have to show is playing in the reserves and training. Our reserves were 4-1 down to Celtic at half time this afternoon (Gow was playing)

In other news, Barry Ferguson will be seeing a specialist tomorrow about an ongoing problem he has been playing through and it's good to hear that he won't play on Wednesday against Partick Thistle. Might go some way to explaining his recent poor performances.

I think we could afford to give Barry an extended rest with Thomson coming back into the team with Davis and Hemdani there as well.

I dont believe that we have a clause like that in the contract. Buffel has played 80 odd games for us, so its not like he's on 99 or something like that.

I think its a simple case of Smith thinking hes not good enough or he's not the type of midfielder he's looking for.

Oh dear, anyone see the paper today in the phone in section (daily record) http://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/comment/sport-comment/2008...line-86908-20354889/

Jim Henderson, Kilmarnock, said: "Rangers rode their luck and so did the fans with some of their songs.

"There's more chance of Gretna winning the Champions League than the authorities clamping down on them."

John Hansen, Stirling, said: "Why were Rangers fans allowed to drape huge flags with the Red Hand of Ulster over the top tier of the main stand?

"Where were the police and stewards and what does the Red Hand have to do with Scottish football?"

Dear me, some of the nonsence people throw out is beyond belief, the Nothern Ireland flag (Red Hand one) happens to be the flag of Steve Davis home country, and a flag which is part of the UK, you would think they would show a little bit of common sence, and as for the song, i didnt hear TBB being sung, and it is the only song offensive, the United fans sung their version, but we at no time sung TBB during the game, so therefor they have nothing to clamp down on us for. We can feel your pain.

Doesnt offend me in the slightest but that reasoning just made me laugh.

I know a couple that do it mate, and i also said about it being part of the UK.
