McD
That's obviously not to say we should never revert to two up front when we're chasing a goal later in a game say, but starting like we did on Sunday was an accident waiting to happen.
Frankie
I'm just disappointed that we don't seem to take confidence from good results. Yes, we've not played brilliantly but the run we've been on has been excellent so you'd think we'd be able to play a bit more freely no matter the system. Unfortunately, mistakes are still rife, we're overly defensive and seem to lose our shape too often as well. It's not all bad of course but I think we'll need to do it ourselves other than rely on Celtic similar problems. Any more slip ups and it makes the Old Firm games even bigger than normal. SI Staff Ter Posted April 8, 2008 SI Staff Share Posted April 8, 2008 That's obviously not to say we should never revert to two up front when we're chasing a goal later in a game say, but starting like we did on Sunday was an accident waiting to happen. If we were to play with two up front and someone like Naismith wide left and Burke wide right rather than McCulloch and Whittaker then I think it would be more effective.
Frankie
I think Whittaker and McCulloch keep a 4-4-2 more solid defensively speaking (well they're supposed to) but unfortunately they provide little in terms of creativity and/or attacking threat. As such if we play 4-4-2, I don't mind playing one of them but would much rather have another more attacking player to compliment them. I don't like Naismith on the left but generally he's OK on the right - as are Novo and Burke.

SI Staff Ter Posted April 8, 2008 SI Staff Share Posted April 8, 2008 That's me found out In other news, not good that Liverpool won tonight, but good that Chelsea did. We really really now need Chelsea to beat Liverpool in the semis and finish second in the league. Basically, the Champions League winner has to finish in the top two in their league or we (or whoever wins the SPL) will have to qualify and not go into the group stage. From what I've seen so far it's not going to be easy to qualify either as there are a lot of potential good teams in the unseeded pot (we'll definitely be seeded). I think as it stands at the moment Celtic might not even be seeded for it if they have to play in it.
lovenkrands01
Well, I'm hoping that Walter gets a nice pot to attract a few big signings. I'm guessing a few players of Cuellars ability or perhaps higher would join in the summer after seeing how well we're doing in Europe this season. So hopefully it won't matter about qualifying as we should be strong enough. Any ideas about summer transfer kitty?

Easy to say that but there are going to be quite a few quality sides in the 3rd Qual Round and it would be silly to write them off. Hopefully we won't have to deal with that but you never know. Especially early in the season when any new signings might not have gelled or whatever.
Caleyjag
Article on F365 saying Darche wants to finish his career at Rangers, with his agent keen to open contract talks. Nice of the lad to want to stay and no doubt he's a good player, but I'd be hesitant on putting him on a longer contract, especially with his injury history. We've been burnt far, far too often in the past.
Frankie
Happy enough for him to sign a new contract under the following conditions: 1. Reduced weekly wage - he's now a year older; 2. Pay as you play. JCD is a fine player and, when fully fit, his pace and sharpness is vital to the team. However, as was the case with Prso, there's no room for sentiment when players are injured more than they play.

Peacemaker7
Would prefer Cousin to start if he's fit enough and bring on JCD later on if needed. I said after the first leg I didn't think this time 0-0 would be enough. I'm now on the fence, Ter is gonna cry but I have a small feeling, a very small one mind, that we might just do this. Despite the ignorance of some of our support, this is the biggest game of the season so far, our chance to reach a European Semi-Final for the first time since 1972! I might actually be getting a little bit excited....
Haz
Funnily enough I am less pessimistic about this than I was before the first leg, but given our recent poor level of performance can see it going one of two ways - Our luck will hold and we'll somehow scrape another 1-1 to go through OR We'll get the doing that we are probably due from somewhere and lose 3-0. Caleyjag
Yeah, haven't felt this giddy since Advocaat's team got into Europe past Christmas I don't mind if we completely mess up in the semi's, but to go out in the QF would actually feel like a dissapointment for me, even though we've gone far further than we'd ever have expected to. The qualifiers could change slightly. Those teams/seedings are very likely for next season so what wuld we like and what would we like to avoid.
