ekstromlars
LEEDS UNITED FC - MARCHING ON TOGETHER Max White / January / Big signing Good month and we are really flying at the moment, uncontested wins. The expectation from the board is mid-table but I have had the taste for the European Cups at this point. Euro League should be doable, maybe the Champions League...?? That would be a test for sure. Signed a new contract with Leeds as well, don't see the poing in leaving now. We are in a really good place at the moment with a young talented squad, should we continue to preform in the league & cups we should attract better players. We were interested in both Michael Keane (on the bench at Chelsea) & Jack Wilshere in this transfer window but they weren't interested on joining. The latter went to Manchester City instead. Signed Bakayoko quite late, I hadn't scouted him as much as I would have liked but Red Bull Leipzig offered him a contract so I took a shoot. Bought him for little more than half of his market value, if it doesn't work out at least we can make som good business. In Bakayoko we'll get a versatile central midfielder, he can play in the "Ronaldo Viera-role", the central midfielder on support. Perfect for away games or home game when the bigger teams comes for a visit. Also possible to play him in holding role instead of Bridcutt/Stewart. Got rid of Walters & Dyer to free up some room in the wage budget. I feared that Liverpool would match the minimum clause for Ronaldo Viera but nothing happened. His morale is still low and do not want to re-negotiate his contract. Not sure how to solve this... Kalvin Philips got injured for quite some time, we slotted Chalobah in the central midfielder on attach duty. What a success! Real power house bombing forward, 4 goals in 6 games. Ronaldo & Tielmans also preforming well, great to see!

ekstromlars
LEEDS UNITED FC - MARCHING ON TOGETHER Max White / February / Cup month Hardly any games in the league this month, the two fixtures against Liverpool & Tottenham ended in zero points & zero goals. Nothing to say about that, their squads are out of this world. Against Stuttgart we ended it in the home game and when Chris scored after ten minutes down in Stuttgart we were all clear. The loss against Burnely, big big disappointment. What happened?!? Youth intake Great prospect in Leigh Kerr. Good mental attributes for a 16y old and a nice base on the technical side. Physcially he is already there. Great personality as well. We believe in this kid. Second Knockout Round, nice draw against Feyenoord. There is some quite big fishes in there. Nice to see Benfica/Tottenham, Sevilla/Napoli, Lyon/Dortmund & Sporting/Monaco go up against each other.
ekstromlars
LEEDS UNITED FC - MARCHING ON TOGETHER Max White / March / A trip to Holland, and we are going back! Good result down in Rotterdam saw us through to the quarter-finals, where we return to Amsterdam. Hoping to cling on to the sixth place so we can return to play in Euro cups. Though match against Man U, they where far better and could have secured the win before half-time. But when the clock had ticked up to 86 minutes Kyle Walker pushed his old teammate Harry Winks in the penalty box. Up stepped Callum Wilson and struck the penalty... far wide. As you can see we didn't see a single Wilson goal this month.. On the flipside, great to see Philips back in play and back to scoring goals.
ekstromlars
LEEDS UNITED FC - MARCHING ON TOGETHER Max White / April / Semi-finals Callum Wilson is continue to have hard time in front of goal. ekstromlars
LEEDS UNITED FC - MARCHING ON TOGETHER Max White / May / End of season Awful final month. Glad we picked ourselves up against Chelsea and got the 1-0 win. Season is over and we finished 6th and will play Euro League yet again. Hoped to finished a little higher in the table but the form just wasn't there in the end. Small squad & long season took its toll. Especially the fixtures against Dortmund were quite frustrating, they were far better than us but we nailed our tactics but couldn't get the ball in the net. A little luck and things could have ended different. But we are proud to have given Dortmund a fair game with a lot of players that have come along from Championship to a semi-final in Europe. Evaluation of the season to follow...
ekstromlars
LEEDS UNITED FC - MARCHING ON TOGETHER Max White / June / Third season closed! Just som quick words about the pics below. Holding & Jansson created a solid central defence with high ratings, they both played 45+ fixtures this season and were the foundation to our good season. Callum Wilson was magnificent during 2/3 part of the season before small injuries & goal draught ended his chances to be the top goalscorer in the division. Kalvin Phillips was named the Player of the Season by the fans. Very well deserved, he was great until his injury. Another player and want to credit is Chalobah, for quite some time he had the highest rating in the entire divison. We have Tyrone Mings as a attacking threat on the left & Wahlquist as a more conservative defending shield on the right. Pontus Jansson have also been placed on the right side of the back line. Therefore, it strikes me as odd that the main part of the opposition assists is coming from our right side. Not really sure how to solve that, if it a formation issue or just down to the player in question. Mings & the wide playmaker/wide midfielder is doing a great of providing assists from the left & closing the shop. A national call-up for Mings shouldn't be far away. We have cleared our debts but for the gift loan from Cellino. That loan will be payed back when he steps down. Good. Our rep is also on the rise. 59 places on from last year. Not bad. Just like our season in the Championship, the players at Leeds are attracing some interst from other clubs. The players in bold have all approached me and asked for permission to talk to other clubs if bids come in. I have granted that wish but we haven't be able to agree on a reasonable sum (except for Garbutt). Ronaldo also handed in a transfer request, that is a shame. He is my best playmaker & only 20y old. He wants to leave for Liverpool as they are bigger club, he has a minimum clause on £24,5m but no bid from the Reds have come in. Yet. I'm expecting a busy transfer summer. We are looking to strengthen our team with the following: - A more ball playing central defender with more pace than Kyle Bartley - With Harry Winks going back to Spurs & Pablo Hernandez going back to Spain/retiring we need to add som depth centrally & to the left - Replace Viera should he leave - Not 100% happy with the performance of Alex Smithies. Should a good big come in we are looking to off-load him. - A more speedy forward replacement to Wilson. Might give that spot to youngster from the club. ekstromlars
LEEDS UNITED FC - MARCHING ON TOGETHER Max White / July - August / New approach OK, have to start with this. Ronaldo Viera left for West Ham. West Ham!? They triggered his clause and the sneaky Reds from Liverpool didn't even bothered with a bid after upsetting him for three transfer windows. Other than that we had very busy transfer period in August. Sold Garbutt quite early as he wanted to leave and frankly, wasn't good enough. Linus Wahlquist & Nathaniel Chalobah both wanted to leave and when Dortmund & Napoli came knocking we said goodbye. We see it as very good business ,Wahlquist came for £3m & Chalobah for £1.8 and now they leave for £14m (£18m) & £20m (£30m). Bournemouth rejected my offers last transfer window when I offered almost the double just to use him a fringe player. Should get some minutes as the playmaker. Mings, Ibe, Wilson & now Cook. I could have just started a Bournemouth save instead. The American wonderkid. Wanted some speed along wings and Christan is very versatile and can play on both wings. Should fit in nicely in the new system I came trying out (more on that later...) OK, this was one of my main targets this transfer period. Had to splash the cash on his salary but I really wanted his speed and ball playing qualities in order to create a more proactive tactial system. Should create a nice duo with Pontus Jansson at the back. Keane as the more ball-playing defender & Jansson as the stopper. Simply an upgrade from Rob Holding. Welcome back Charlie! With Watford going down I saw my chance to bring Charlie back. Not as fast as Mings but a better crosser. Home-grown at the club as well so a no-brainer. Mings has also handed in a transfer request in order to try to force me to sell him to Chelsea. They offer £20m (another example of healthy business), we wanted £30 cause we are a good place when it comes to the finances. No need to sell. The Wahlquist replacement. I want someone really solid as my right side defender and found Matej Mitrovic. Will re-train him asap and in the meantime Kevin Steward can cover. Cheap. OK, I went a little desperate when West Ham snatached Ronaldo Viera & Napoli bought Nathaniel Chalobah. All of a sudden I hardly had any playmakers left. Bought Lorenzo Pellegrini, quite expensive but a lot is tied up in unrealistic clauses. Lorenzo should be useful weapon with his long range passes to the wings (looking at you Jordan) & long shots, a quality we have been missing. I mentioned that we are looking at a new tactical approach this year in order to be a little more pro-active. This is our set-up, we push our defensive line much higher and apply some heavy pressure on the opponent. Pulisic is allowed to cut inside in the area infront of the playmaker to make room for Mings. Ibe is keeping the width to the right. Ideally I would want a more sweeper keeper. Neither Smithies, Peacock-Farell or Sam Johnstone is that goalkeeper. Tielemans have been injured at the start of this season so Pulisic have taken the AM spot with Dallas taking the left midfield. With Puli & Wilson up front we have some nice movement up there, they are hard to get hold of. I have not abandoned the old 4-1-4-1, I will probably use it to mix it up but all matches so far are played with the new 4-4-1-1. Suprised Arsene Wenger and his Arsenal in the first game and dominated the first half. They got hold of the ball in the second and were the far better team. In the matches against Bournemouth & Newcaste we were the far better team with almost 60%+ in possession and the final results mirros our dominance. Against Liverpool & Montella, we didn't had a chance. I think the created 30+ shots and the midfield diamond of Georginio Wijnaldum, Will Huges, Jordan Henderson & Adam Lallana had no problem whatsoever to play pass our pressure and apply the through ball behind Pontus Jansson. Christian Pulisic is off to a good start with a solid 7.22 average rating. Happy of Euro League draw as well. Porto will probably be the best team we have faced in the Euro cups and we should have a decent chance of getting through. Cellino have set the bar higher this year, expecting us to reach the Secound Knock-out phase.

ekstromlars
LEEDS UNITED FC - MARCHING ON TOGETHER Max White / September - November / Grinding Not much is happening, just a lot of fixtures. Good to see Chris Wood back as the teams top scorer ;D After the devastating loss against Man U, we had to re-think the 4-4-1-1 high pressing tactic. Currently back at 4-1-4-1 using a DLP instead of a WP and letting both central midfielder go forward. Bakayako had fun streak in November, scoring 5 goals in three matches. Brexit also happened but without any changes to the work permit system.

ekstromlars
LEEDS UNITED FC - MARCHING ON TOGETHER Max White / December / Lots of matches... Lots of fixtures in December and an awful run with losses against Man C, Fulham & Arsenal. Happy that we had Hull (16th), West Ham (18th) & Bournemouth (19th) in the following three. Helped us get on track. New signing of Christian Pulisic picks up the Golden Boy award. Been great so far!
ekstromlars
LEEDS UNITED FC - MARCHING ON TOGETHER Max White / January / New loan signing with promising debut Pretty good month. Left the bad spell of form in December behind us with a solid point at home against Liverpool, advanced through to the fourth round in the FA cup and booked our spot in the EPL Final against Manchester United after a late free kick goal by our new signing Martin Ödegaard. He had only been on the pitch for a couple of minutes. Macnhester hade just sacked Pep Guardiola before the first leg and Leonardo Jardim had just taken over the reigns when we played the second. They both played a 4-4-2, which suits us quite well since we are always 3 in the middle. Martin is not as brave as I normally want my players but he is fast, good with the ball and versatile. Will use him as both the central attacking midfielder & wide playmaker (give me the option of placing Pulisic on the right side as well where his speed and dribbling should come to good use). Signed Ödegaard on loan for the reat of the season with a optional fee on £10 million. Really looking forward to the first final!
ekstromlars
LEEDS UNITED FC - MARCHING ON TOGETHER Max White / February / Best month?! Following a good January with a even better February! Let's take it from the top: - FA Cup, fourth round against Rotherham. Starting with the high pressing 4-4-1-1 and not exactly the best team. Up 2-0 at half time after goals from Ödegaard & Holding but our high back line was clearly a mistake as Rotherham clawed themselves back into the game and also took the league. A late goal from Wilson saved us. RIP 4-4-1-1. - Manchester United at home and what a start to the game. Kyle Walker is to tough on Callum Wilson and the referee awards us a pentaly. No mistake from Wilson. Just seconds later Christian Pulisic cuts in from the left and places 2-0 in the far corner. Look at the pic below, very happy with "highest pass combination chart", Lorenzo Pellegrini could be a little further down but another than that. Very happy! - Solid victory against a underpreforming Chelsea (Luis Enrique was sacked just a few matches later) before we took the victory in the FA Cup replay against Rotheram. Followed that with a win against Swansea (two goals from corners/Jansson) & two easy victories against a weak Swiss side, Luzern. - The 17 fixtures unbeaten run ended in the 5th round of the FA Cup against Arsenal. We put in a amazing preformance but they scored 3 from on 3 shots in target. Still no win against Arsene... After beating Luzern, we draw Inter in Second Knockout Round. Top side Italian side. Youth intake, not best durng the White spell at Leeds. Kenneth Johnson is the top prospect. When the monthly awards came in, it emphasized the good month Leeds United had in February 2020. Next game is the EPL Cup Final against Manchester United. Hopefully played tonight, Tuesday.

ekstromlars
LEEDS UNITED FC - MARCHING ON TOGETHER The first Final - Pre game Finally time for the final! We are going in without Jordan Ibe & Lorenzo Pellegrini, our first choice right side winger & playmaker. Starlet Alex Hattersley is cup-tied. Man U are missing winger Keita Balde & new signing Kurt Zouma (cup-tied). This is the starting line-ups for both teams, quite suprisingly Man U are starting with 17y old defender Ivan Valle & Italian Moise Kean (let me know if screenshots are of interest). For Leeds, Youri Tielemans takes the playmaker role in the absence of Lorenzo Pellegrini, usually Lewis Cook operates in this space. Instead of Jordan Ibe we have moved Christian Pulisic to the right and Martin Ödegaard takes the spot to the left. Lets go!
ekstromlars
LEEDS UNITED FC - MARCHING ON TOGETHER The first Final - Half time First 15 minutes were ours but Man U clawed themselves back and quite well deserved scored first. Moise Kean stole the ball from Matej Mitrovic when he was one of the last defenders and quickly played it onto Koke, who found Kyle Walker overlapping. Before Mings could get there to close him down. Walker had found Mandzukic on the head. 1-0. Just five minutes later Martin Ödegaard had the ball under control. He cuts in, bringing Walker with him, finds Tyrone Mings with a lot of time. Low cross = Wilson heads it home. 1-1 & half time. I am not happy with the central midfield so I take Kalvin Philips off and bring in Lewis Cook and the plan is to make Cook the DLP & Tielemans the CM-A since he has "move into channels" as one of the PPM and have played that role before. However, Jose Mourinho changes his formation to a 4-2-3-1 & Cook will have no room to dictate the play. Even though Januzaj isn't the hardest working midfielder, the area will be crowed. Changes to the formation I usually plays against this formation. Ödegaard is now our playmaker & Bakayoko our holding midfielder.
ekstromlars
LEEDS UNITED FC - MARCHING ON TOGETHER The first Final - Full Time OK, this didn't go our way this time. Fred scored the winning goal in the 77th minutes, while he was doing it Callum Wilson was laying on the grass injured for quite some time before they found Walker on the right wing, who knocked it in to Fred. Dirty Mourinho Our counter measure with the wide playmaker forced Mourinho to switch back to the 4-1-2-3 formation he started the game with and we were so close of getting ahead twice when both Cook & Pulisic had great chances, the latter hit the post with a powerful shot. Well, this sucked but probably well deserved. We'll get it next time.

ekstromlars
LEEDS UNITED FC - MARCHING ON TOGETHER Max White / March / Aftermath (FM) life goes on after the cup defeat. Biggest thing this month was to go up against Inter, now managed by Diego Simone (!). In a previous save with Villarreal I had some major issues going up against Simone's 4-4-2 at Atletico. I tried everything but his players always seemed to have space to pass & energy to press us. It made me a bit nervous before this fixture. But when he fielded Abdelhal Nouri & Ever Banega as the central midfielders I ticked the "exploit the middle" since I knew my central trio (Pellegrini, Bakayoko & Tielemans) would be able to go right through them. Not happy with 3 conceded but quite pleased with 6 scored Fielded the reserves in the return at San Siro and Stuart Dallas got the crucial 1-0 just after 3 minutes. And what can you say about Leeds product Lovers Masinga. He seems to score everytime I put him in. Love it! Next up: Sporting. With just 2 days between the matches. ekstromlars
LEEDS UNITED FC - MARCHING ON TOGETHER Max White / April / Going strong Went for knock in the first fixtre against Sporting and thanks to Bakayoko we got away with a solid 3-0 victory. In the second leg Alex Hattersley scored his ever first goal for Leeds. The Academy is paying off! Drew Arsenal in the Euro League semi-final, during the three years back in the Premiership we haven't even gotten a point from Wenger/Arsenal so really not ideal.. Lost the away fixture 1-2 but got the crucial away goal. Managed the beat Manchester City though, Jardim have not suceeded at Manchester City. Just like Simone he is playing a 4-4-2 (Weigl & Renato Sanches as the CMs), employed the same tactics as the Inter game; 4-1-4-1 with Pellegrini in the DM strata playing a DLP-S with both CMs bombing forward. Kalvin Philips MoM, love that kid.
ekstromlars
LEEDS UNITED FC - MARCHING ON TOGETHER Max White / May / End of PL season Wow wow wow wow, what a game against Arsenal! Managed to get the game to over time when Callum Wilson finds Jordan Ibe, who bombs the ball into the net in the 102th minute of the game. And Alex Smithies! I put him at the bench in some game at the start of the season to play Bailey Peacock-Farell but when things went south back in December we decided to focus on ONE goalkeeper. Now he is the hero after saving the penalty from Carrasco. Lyon next! On the PL side, we are very solid. Winning most game with 1 or 2 goals, we managed to take the fourth place and are qualified to the Champions League. Yes! Callum Wilson scored 21 PL goals, now over 40 PL goals after the two seasons at Leeds. Also nice to Ibe & Pulisic at 2nd & 3rd place in the assist league. Also new signing Michael Keane at 2nd place in avg rating.

ekstromlars
LEEDS UNITED FC - MARCHING ON TOGETHER Max White / May / Preview Euro League Final vs Lyon Lets do this! We have our best team available except for back-up striker Chris Wood (injury) & Tyrone Mings (Barbados national team). Mings status on the English national team have been a hot issue in the press. Several time media have asked me if I think Benitez should pick Mings for national service, at forst Mings only wanted to play for England but when the question didn't came. He went to Barbados. Not good for me as I have to spare him in a Euro final. Anyway, Charlie Taylor is more than capable to fill his shoes. Better watch out for Depay on the left but I feel confident that Mitrovic will be able to close him down, other than that it appears Lyon will try to take advantage on my left wing (Pulisic/Taylor) as their right side defender, Gaspar, have high starting point. Last thing: Silvestri, the first player I sold from Leeds is still their back-up goalie. We meet again old friend.
ekstromlars
LEEDS UNITED FC - MARCHING ON TOGETHER Max White / May / Half time Euro League Final vs Lyon Not the best start, after some flipper in the penalty box the ball landed at the feet of winger Ikoné. He shoots and via the ass of Pontus Jansson the ball finds its way into the back of the net. Just after 6 minutes. But then Callum Wilson started his show. One penalty after hand ball & two well struck shots from within the penalty box. 3-1 up at half time.
