Now, players have there preferred shirt number but it doesn't effect how they react when you actually assign a shirt number. Some examples I've seen the last week at Ajax: - Ziyech posting all happy on Facebook he got #10 - Riedewald said in the media that receiving #36 was one of the reasons ("I've seen it as a signal") to leave to club as he doesn't feel any trust anymore. Imagine what would happen if you give Messi #38? Now nothing happens... It also could be one of the promises you make to a new signing. Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...

There may only be a relatively small section of players who are bothered by such things, but it would be nice to see favoured numbers being important. If the player's character is good, he'd still be motivated and try to find his way back into the team after you gave him #38 or so.
