FM18 functions implementation on let's say FM16

This one is probably for you @michaeltmurrayuk.

Any idea if it would be possible to implement newer functions, into older versions of FM.

Let's say the possibility to show faces on starting 11 (match previews lineups, last know starting 11 in club overview, team of the week and so on) which was introduced this year. Take that, and put it into FM17 or 16 for example.

Is there some coding in the "functions.xml" files which can be copy pasted to open up these kind of things, or do you reckon it's hardcoded elsewere in the game?

It's not generally possible as the older versions don't have the underlying code present and as it is game code not xml code you cannot transfer it over. The only thing you can really do is see how it is done in FM18 and see if the similar code works in FM17 and hope that it is something that has been supported but not used in the previous versions.
