BoxToBox
Well, what a month... *swigs from tequila bottle* Financially, we can't afford to replace this bottle of booze. On pitch, a pair of draws and a loss see us cede top spot to Monterrey. Horrific form, but when the playoffs started, thankfully we've turned it round and smashed Santos Laguna. Dávila absolutely starred, putting the team that cast him aside to the sword. After the game, of course he instantly demanded his wages doubling. I explained we literally have zero money and I couldn't buy him a beer, never mind give him 10k a week, and he lost his head..... John Carlos Rodríguez, our 19 year old starting CB, on 500 a week, wanted a new deal, but the kid was far more sensible when it came top seeing the state we're in. Aguilar asked to leave for a "bigger club", but was calmed down quite easily. Thinks continue this was and we may have to shop him out regardless..... I guess one boon is, with Uscanga and Torres, Dávila isn't actually irreplaceable. He can sulk in the stands, while we try and compete for a title. *swigs, passes out in chair* We can't even afford to give you monopoly money.... BoxToBox
So, after smashing Laguna, I rested a lot of players in the second leg. A mistake, a minor loss, but kept us generally off form, and we struggled with a Morelia side I expected comfortable results against. Yet, we won the second leg and march on to the Clausura finals, against Chivas, with a squad half built around Chivas castoffs... Things didn't look good, mere days before the final, star left mid Ramírez pulled his hamstring, misses both legs of the final. Backup left mid, Cisneros.... On loan from Chivas, without permission to compete against them... McMahon is starting on the right, but has zero experience on the left anyway. Uscanga could put a shift in, but he's starting in midfield instead of Dávila, and I'm not going back to that ****er... So who are we down to.... 18 year old right (wing)back Danny Romero, he's pretty comfortable at left mid, so he says... Lad's a talent, we'll give him the chance, it's either that or start futzing with new formations. Away first, we'll be playing our counter attacking deep block 4-4-2. Nine minutes. Nine bloody minutes, that's all it took.... for young Romero to become a hero. He spotted Chivas' star CB Carlos Salcedo mistime a jump, missing the ball, ran in behind and lashed home with his weaker(?!) left foot. After that, Torres puts a tidy finish away just before the half and we can relax. Second leg was quite routine, but it was a day for the Chivas castoffs to rub salt in, with Enríquez and Torres scoring. We'd done it, Apertura and Clausura champions in our first season, predicted 18th, was it?! We're still in the red, but it's close now.

BoxToBox
It's the eve of the first game of the season, and the summer's been fairly quiet. Which is good and bad.... We haven't strengthened that much, but we haven't lost too much either. President is incredibly unhappy and more likely his "friends", as there were no flash signings. I mean, he gave me a lost, what can I do if none them would talk to us? We made one big, sad sale, and I'm sure certain parties got their cut of that.... McMahon.... 9.5m cash and 40% of profit, we couldn't say no to that. To be fair, it was left up to me, and I pulled the trigger in the clubs best interest. Chris Jenkins is promoted to pitch in at right mid, but Uscanga will start there, for now. After that deal, I had a talk with Dávila, both sides came to some sensible realisations. I knew we weren't going to get a player like him on the market, he understood that no better club wanted him and he could easily end up in our B team. So we done a deal, I have him his contract. 6.5k, though, not the 10k he'd earlier demanded... Incomings, well, no flash, but I'm happy. Miguel Hernández, a sturdy Honduran DM who's been on trial two years now, finalized, for the last 6 months he's been retraining as a ball playing defender, he could be great at it, too! Juan Manuel Torres, another CB, a classic big lad one, but with the potential to be a star. Kevin Gutiérrez, a better backup LB, I continually renew Ulises Torres' loan from América to be first choice. Edson Álvarez is the big signing, a decent young defender, but rapid and very creative, yes.... another ball playing CB! I can't help it..... América had accepted a 4.5m bid, my entire budget allocation from the McMahon deal, but he wasn't interested, instead a loan was completed on deadline day, two years, and a 4.4m clause..... Hopefully we can activate it. Foreign window is still open, and much could happen yet, Aguilar is a wanted man, Bayern, Dortmund, Sporting, and he has the huff as he wants to join Dortmund. None have bid yet, mind.... Chelsea tried for Juan Carlos Rodríguez, but it looks like he'll sign a new 5+1 deal. Man Utd want youngster Albarrán, but he's my planned long term replacement for Aguilar, should we meet with an undeniable bid.... Spurs and Liverpool are chasing last season hero Romero, nope, not happening. Then there's the golden goose, Reséndez, far closer to Erick Torres than he has any right to be at 16.... Now if we could cut the bad sorts out of the presidents life, we'd be well on our way!

BoxToBox
I decided not to bother with a post-June update, as it would have been, "we played a game..." so here we are in August. Thankfully, for once I don't have to start with "financially we are in ruin...", and we're actually quite healthy on that front. Instead we're in ruin health wise. Gudino broke a finger, starting holding mid Rivera tore his thigh, various others picked up 2-3 week knocks. It kind of explains something though, while we've won every game, most have been 1-0 and severely unconvincing. At home to Toluca, a team we should have easily handled, we scored with one of two shots. At home! Even the América game, two late goals only mask a ****show.... The foreign transfer window rolls on, I think most all of Europe shut up shop, but we have five days yet. JCR signed da ting. Romero continued to be targeted, but signed da ting. Man Utd threw a 6m offer at us for Albarrán, but he signed da ting. So they turned to the future of attacking midfield in Los Mochis, the aptly named Jesús Luna. He singed da ting. Europe 0 - Murciélagos 1. The only question that remains is the now severely unhappy Aguilar, who desperately wants to move to a bigger club. Dortmund and Bayern had an eye, but ended interest without bidding. Sporting continue to monitor, no bid. Liverpool have joined in, both interested, but not enough to make an offer. What da ya want lad? Can't sell ya if no one's buyin', and I'm certainly not transfer listing the clubs best player and accepting less than ludicrous money. President came to my office, demanded I buy a player from Europe. Make a splash, show what we're about. So..... I gave in, and did. He's not happy about it.I signed Canadian/Portugese midfield playmaker Stephen Eustáquio for 500k, razzle dazzle mutha****er! Seriously though, an extra deep laying playmaker is much appreciated. Aguilar's doesn't really have the fitness to play 90 minutes twice a week, often not once, plus with his unhappiness his form is, ehh..... Of course, me playing games like this could get me in hot water. Though I think it's been smoothed over. We're getting facility upgrades, paying 3m for works that the ground won't even be broken on for another year. Nothing suspicious about that. Unconvincingly dominant. How odd. Really like the look of this lad, should be very handy. The new saviour is coming along very well.
BoxToBox
The real work this year was done elsewhere, while we can't afford to buy the best players in the league, some clever picks and we can indeed have the best staff in the league.... So hard work was put in and we have a quality backroom by most standards. Not world class, but closer than we've any right to expect. Just need to convince the president, or more likely, Miss Lopéz that we need some more Sports Scientists, and to give the team/backroom the facilities to maximize their hard work. Seniors - Youths. Ideally, I'd like 4+ stars in everything for both youths and seniors, but this is an excellent place to be in right now.
BoxToBox
It's a good time of the season, no transfers, no dodgy agents to deal with, or even dodgier associates. Nothing but football. Four games played, three wins, and some good ones at that, when I was considering a tactical shake up. One draw though to a side that shouldn't have posed a problem. Other than that, not much going on, couple of youths picked up nasty knocks, sadly Reséndez was a notable one. He'll be fine in two weeks, though. President must have been spooked, I think he spotted my laptop left open on the job centre, as the next day he was wating at my door when I arrived with a new four year deal. I was just looking to see how a few national sides were getting on though, had no intention of leaving. Tigres are right on us, if they win the game in hand. McMahon is playing very well for them. BoxToBox
In which I show my fangs, and appease the powers that be... On pitch, uh, not so much. Bad month, three games with a win, draw and loss. Luckily we're still in front and comfortably set for the playoffs. Still, a tactical shakeup may be on the cards. So, what's the good news? Well, meet Diego Reyes, a Porto player, 27 years old, a Mexican international with 57 caps just coming into his prime. The centrepiece of Chivas defence, where he's on loan. For ooh, about two months more.... Cheap, marquee signing, and weakens a rival without them getting the benefit of the sales fee to strengthen. Bloody ideal. BoxToBox
What a difference a month makes... With nothing much to lose, I decided to forge ahead and try something fresh tactically, and we had the perfect game to try it in to start the month, a decent top half but not super threatening side in Veracruz. What I wanted, is something a little more Mexican, rather than the fairly direct, almost British 4-4-1-1 we've been playing. Of course, not being to knowledgeable on the history of Mexican football, or their classic sides, this was a bit tricky. Shape-wise, I plumped for a 3-5-2, based somewhat on some of the recent Mexican sides of Miguel Herrera, varieties of 3-5-2's and 3-4-1-2's are amongst my favourite systems to play. Other than that, it's a bit forward thinking, and with Latin American influence. Players allowed to play with flair, freedom, and dribble at their man at will. Still, perhaps a bit more uptempo and direct than traditionally Mexican, but it's a lot of fun, and we have to compromise style with results a little bit. We started with Veracruz, and smashed them 5-0, perhaps a fluke, so we continued, away at Chivas. A 0-2 away win, but could have been any number for us. Home to Morelia, slow to get going, remained comfortable. The playoffs, first leg away, Chivas. Less dominant stat-wise, but a 0-3 away win, clinical. Very happy with how it's looking so far, though we're a bit open to counters. Then again, it could be argued that being so open is quite Latin American, too! Yet to be punished for it, but something to be aware of, perhaps I'll ask the wingbacks to sit back a touch.... The highlight of the month though, is Rescéndez, started three games, subbed on against Morelia, scored in all of them. He's going to be special. Off pitch, president and co. are all dead happy since the Reyes deal was arranged and left me be. Perfect time for a big deal, a lot of money and not exactly a marquee deal, but key to what I'm building. Young Ulises Torres, on loan with us for two and a half seasons now, already played 89 games... He's staying for good! 3.8m, rising to 4.9m, massive money for us, but he's worth his weight in gold. That first Chivas game, could have been any number of goals. That's what I'm working with right now, still plenty of tweaking to be done, perhaps(the Carrilo could change, wingbacks and maybe Mezzala's mentalities to support?), but it's been great so far. BoxToBox
We're done. Well, for 2019 anyway. We happily finished of Chivas in the second leg, a bogey team no more. Morelia in the semis, they gave us a tricky first leg, but the second was more routine than the 2-0 would have you believe, The it happened, day before the final first leg, Aguilar demanded a transfer to Liverpool, so I did what I had to and dropped him from the 18 men to take part in the finals. We comfortably handled the games without him. To be honest, I'd accept a sale for massive money, we have a new hero now anyway, Rescéndez can't stop scoring. That second leg of the final. Could have been 6 or 7 to 1. Eustáquio took a penalty that could only be described as a world class parody of Sergio Ramos....

BoxToBox
We're into February now, and things are consistently on the up, money's coming in at a nice enough clip that the cartel thugs have all taken to calling me Mr Johnson. Transfers, well, the two big deals were already detailed, a few youth deals finalized, but none that instantly stand out. Outgoing is more interesting, we sold Rivera to Cruz Azul, with Aguliar, who's now calmed down, and Luna finally being ranked as Nation Born, we have lots of Mexican talent, and 3.1m is a great fee for a not so important rotation option demanding a new deal after playing two games in the Apertura... We sold an American lad, Phil Yazzie, to Porto, great young talent, but I feel we have better developing in the squads. What about Aguilar? Liverpool never bid, Gladbach, Villareal and Roma did, all roughly for 5m rising to 7.7m.... Speaking of development, the two players I was most worried about, Albarrán and Vanegas have been tutored by senior players and come on leaps and bounds, both have been offered new long term, plus three deals. You'll notice Rescéndez isn't amongst the January scorers, picked up a knock and missed a few weeks, should be back fit now, hopefully he's not injury prone... CONCACAF CL starts late this month two, and we're already expected to make the final, but it's a demand that's hard to argue against. Kinda wish Mexican clubs still competed in the Libertadores.... CONCACAF and CONMEBOL tweaked the structures for their Champions Leagues and now they're very much hindering eachother (Copa Libertadores was only in the first half of the year previously). Liga MX told CONMEBOL they'll be back soon, but I don't see that happening in the future.

BoxToBox
It was a shockingly quiet month, three games, but some real action happened off the pitch... Aguilar calmed down, all the way down, and returned to being content. Enough that he was even slightly open to contract negotiations, highly disinterested, but would listen. All I needed was an opportunity! We more than tripled his wages, gave him and his agent big signing fees. but it happened. his contract was extended! With a beautiful option for three additional years. He's been training to play DM too, as a Regista, which is gooing very well. Then, the very next day, it was time to check out the yearly youth graduates. Bryan was very excited again, another youth with the potential to be a true great. He is at that, a potential monster that could play anywhere in midfield, even as a centerback with some nurturing or as a sweeper, but that'd require another tactical rethink. Also amongst the kids were a striker that looks like he could be real handy too, and a Basque defender...... This guy is going to be something else... BoxToBox
You either die a hero, or live long enough to see yourself become the villain... A phrase I've heard what feels like a million times, our weekly Batman marathon still in effect, attendance mandatory. Not to mention endless memes... Still, for me, it's becoming true. I endlessly complain about the president and darker influences, pushing us needlessly into the market for marquee players. We don't need them, I say, the academy's coming along well, lets give our own a chance, etc, etc. Here we are though, and I saw an opportunity, Monterrey's best player, unhappy, transfer listed by request, willing to talk to us, biggest fee the club has ever paid at 8.25m. I ripped their arm off, then their heart out. I try to con myself, sure, I want the squad to be more Mexican, I want to keep Mexican players in Mexico rather than running off to Europe.... Lies, I saw a power move, and I took it. We have a few very good CB's in the under 20's if we actually needed one.... I'm terrible... On pitch, we've mostly won, but after starting out with a dominant performance, we quickly degraded game after game. Chivas should have gone through in the CONCACAF CL, they pushed us around home and away. Two half lucky half brilliant moments made the difference. Speaking of Chivas, including pre-season, we've played them 6 times, with a 7th to come and potentially 2 more depending on playoffs....
Dexter_Morgan
You're breezing through this now Playing on previous FM's (Pumas) I remember how hard (well impossible) it was to make money unless you did give in on bids for your players, the money generated for winning trophies never seemed to improve nor did sponsorship after a certain point so it did get frustrating, it didn't seem like Club America made that much in all honesty so i'm not even convinced you'd make much even winning the CWC a few times it made me stop playing in the end so i'd be interested to see if you can keep at it for more than a decade and make the club self sufficient

I think the only real way to self sufficiency would be to turn the academy into a bit of a factory. So far poaching free and cheap players from the Americas seems like a decent compromise, like the recent sale Yazzie, in for free, out for 4.7m + 50% profit without playing a game. That said, the academy has already turned out 6 players that look potentially important. I'd like to focus on the academy a bit more, too, might see if I can have a wee clear out of the B team and u20's.
BoxToBox
April was by far the most brutal month I faced as a manager, with a total of ten games, ten! We made it through though, and with flying colours, only dropping points in a single game. Admittedly to the worst team in the league... The main thing was the CONCACAF CL, though, and surprisingly, we faced a US side in the final, rather than a fellow Mexican side which was almost expected. Sporting Kansas City. Of course thing meant we were practically guaranteed a win, it'd be quite embarrassing to be the first Mexican side to not take the title. Never in doubt though as we dismantled them home and away. Rescéndez scoring a hat trick in the first leg was a real highlight, even with a peno, that's frankly outrageous for a 16 year old.
BoxToBox
So, another season wrapped up, May was the month of playoffs, and we came through well, even if some of the away legs weren't good enough, perhaps I'm being harsh, most would be happy with away draws and home wins. Still, two Apertura's in a worn, two Clausura's, and now a CL win, and we're not even ranked in the top 6 Mexican clubs. I understand we're newly rising, but they're the kind of results that shouldn't be ignored. Well, that won't be the case for much longer. Next season we're coming back stronger, even if we are on top. We'll also have the Club World Cup next winter, and I intend to ensure that any European team that wants it will damn well earn it. Bayern or Chelsea.... The facility upgrades are going through, we've finally pumped more money into the academy, some big sales going through. Best staff in the league, soon the best players, new stadium. Bats frighten me, it's time the world shared my dread... We're up to exceptional/well established. BoxToBox
This summer, it was crazy, intense! Already there was a big move in place with Montes, but once the window opened, it was like a red mist descended. Big sales, and I reinvested the money heavily. I had wanted to focus on academy players, but it turns out that didn't specifically mean "our" academy. *shakes head* I had asked Miss Lopéz out, since we'd been getting on so well, but she flat refused, said she didn't recognise me any more, I was becoming "like them" losing my morals and ideals....What happened to building sensibly, carefully, faith in our youth? I was a man with a vision, once, apparently... Now when we speak, by necessity only, ice. I've made mistakes, what am I becoming? You either die a hero, or live long enough to see yourself become the villain, indeed! Most business came from domestic clubs, we've raided the best and the best prospects... Montes, 8.25m from Monterrey, Pizarro, 6.5m from Chivas, Gutiérrez, 6m from Pachuca, Salcedo, loaned from Brighton, 205k monthly fee. Gudino's deal was finalized too, a rare moment of sense, the pre-organised 90k.That was just senior ready players. The two best players in Pachuca's academy, Ramón Torres, potentially 5.25m, crazy money for a 17 year old, but he'll be amazing, Antonio Pavón, 1.4m, a potential star, but we were stacked in midfield and I done it anyway. Medina, 275k from Universidad, who cares if we have young Rafael in the same position... Crispín, 475k from Tigres, this one makes some sense, left wingback was a weakness, youth-wise. González, 750k from Chivas, we're swimming in CM/DM's. Capellini, 1.4m from Atlas, mad money for a kid in a spot we had depth, but might be alright in hindsight. Outgoings were quite crazy, a backup CB to Man City for 5m, winger Ramírez to Monterrey another 5m, he was a casualty of the switch to 3-5-2. A backup wingback to Monaco, 4.5m. Mejía, I'd have liked to keep, good tutor, still only 30, but he lost his head when I bid for Gutiérrez, fine then, bye. Pérez was a fine CB prospect, but 2.5m for a player well away from the first team was good. Other than that it was mostly a bit of a clearout. Man City tried for JCR, our monster CB, but only wanted to pay 8-10m. No dice. Man Utd declared interest, and he demanded a transfer. They never bid. He calmed down, and once he had, Bayern made an enquiry... I said 60m, joking and expecting them to walk, they shot back with 30m, so my next counter offer was 55m and 50% of any profit if they sell him later on. I'd be happy if I could talk them up to 40, but I'd have taken the 30 to be honest. They accepted the 55m deal. I'd have delivered him to Munich in person for that price and bought a few rounds of beer! Off he went with well wishes! Flush with cash, we activated a purchase clause in Salcedo's loan, 5m. Happy with that. We've a few days yet to run, and are in talks with Jesús Corona, too. 12.25m and 35pw wages, a massive deal. For all the transfer skullduggery, I don't feel so bad when I see Club América signing the likes of Nicolas Otamendi on a free, and paying him 60k a week. On pitch, we won the traditional Copa de Lobos, but after that had the squad decimated by Olympics call ups. It's telling that we're nearly half way through the Apertura and we're only starting to see the new look side in action. A game against Santos Laguna left the media highly unimpressed, they dominated us in possession on our own ground 40/60. Didn't matter that most of that was because every time we won the ball we gave it back to them, via shots on goal. We won 5-0, for **** sake. Time for some international guests... Between the Olympics, and the JCR sale, Torres is getting much more football than expected so quickly, might just chuck him in the senior side. I do like that the squad is becoming primarily Mexican now, rather than the Nation Born rule being a tight squeeze. Rodriguez is a real loss, but the money is frankly daft. Thinking as a CF(s), but could also do the Mezzala role.
ManUtd1
Good to see you taking home the Copa de Lobos title, such prestige and honor to be won. And who else would win it, honestly?

On paper though, América still have the better side, via their ancient Argentines.
BoxToBox
Another month, more football, usual story, sigh... What about Corona, the deal happened, of course it did. More unnecessary madness, though I do enjoy our starting 11 being entirely Mexican. His debut was the most ludicrous of games, we beat Chivas 3-1, all three scored by Julio César Domínguez. Haven't I mentioned him before? That's because he's a rather unfortunate Chivas player... President is crazy about me at the moment, shows up for "gameplan" chats every morning, attends the Batman marathons in person, and invites me to his "office parties". No thanks. His associates, they want me to join their pokers games "We wanna see if the gringo can turn a hundred bucks into a million, like he does with the players, esé!" Definitely no thanks... Though I feel eventually that won't be optional. Miss Lopéz won't even speak to me any more, sends here new assistant to deal with any requests I have. Why does a secretary need an assistant anyway?! I decided it was a good time to review the youths, more specifically the ones that have come through our own ranks. Year one, The Irish-ish boy Almanza, a pleasant surprise, he's come along better than expected. If the club hadn't rose at such a pace, he may have had a chance here. Enrique Iglesias, I think he's in the wrong business... Year two, Rescéndez, 17 and a key player enormous talent. Meraz, quick and technical, potential to be very useful. Sanchez, an odd fellow, rapid mid who can't especially dribble, or pass, but is coming along well regardless. Then there's Rojas, the staff always said he has potential, but at first, he was miles off the pace and looked like a misjudgement. He's come on leaps and bounds though(ed note: wish I had a day one screenshot, didn't rate him at all, gone up 3+ in everything already, finishing is up 5!!!) and has overtaken many youngsters in the pecking order. Year three, González is almost first team ready, just needs a little work as a Regista. Now rated to have a higher ceiling than Rescéndez! Garza, still looks to have fine potential, though he'll take some nurturing to reach it, well off the pace. Rafael the Basque, has been learning the wingback role, and has taken to it like a duck to water. If perhaps a more defensive one than I'd ideally go for. Now, time for more football, and more soul searching... No idea what the deal with America is, definitely at worst the 2nd best team in the league.
