When I joined I had two players (ironically, brothers) on amateur contracts essentially playing for nothing. I signed one of them up to a part-time contract on £150 p/w to stop him being poached. He is now my top earner. His brother remains on an amateur contract earning a grand total of £0 per week. Not once has he a) asked to be signed to a more lucrative deal b) asked to be released to find another club or c) walked away to find a better deal elsewhere. This seems a little strange that he is happy to stay on that kind of contract. He is an important player too. Also, I have signed players on £5 p/w part-time contracts, Surely, a wage that low isn't correct in modern football? Would any footballer be happy to play for a fiver a week? Many people do that for nothing other than the desire to play the sport. If they're good enough, they'll likely go to someone who can pay them more, but likely they're not, so they still get to play while having other commitments. It's not all about money, particularly when we're talking about the much lower levels. As for the specific example, what makes you think he should automatically want any of those things? If he's on an amateur contract, that means he has more freedom of movement, and far more time to pursue other interests, which would likely be either a full or part-time job. At those levels, he's hardly going to be offered an astronomical contract, so it's likely his job pays more than the football club ever could. After all, the average salary for a full-time employee in the UK is 27k. That's a little over 500 a week. Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...

My main issue is the fact that his brother is now earning £150 and he's left on zippity squat so the feeling of contempt towards me and the club may well be building. I've had issues with him before to the point where our relationship is "Distant" so that may explain why he's not seemingly too fussed about a contract. Options remain open. On the other side of the coin, he's an important player for me (he has 2 mental attributes over 10 which is massive for Llandudno) and EVERY other member of the squad is on a part-time contract. Again, contempt may be rising. We'll see. But only if he values the money and status that that contract would bring. At that level, that's not necessarily true. Plenty of players - I work with one - are probably good enough to get a better contract at a higher level, but decide for whatever reason - personal or otherwise - that they'd be better served staying at a club on amateur terms than sign a professional or semi-professional contract. sporadicsmiles Posted January 9, 2018 Share Posted January 9, 2018 Amateur usually means you are not paid huge amounts of money anyway. Indeed, the wiki page on amateur sports defines it as sport where players play for little to no remuneration. I guess the £5 is a nominal fee, possible to differentiate between a non-contract in FM (that is entirely a guess). So you should not expect to pay players on an amateur contract any money; they have jobs elsewhere and are playing football out of love for the game. Indeed, if a player wants to be paid more, they would no longer be amateur and instead would be considered semi-pro, and you would pay them more. I have no idea what the minimum wage for a semi pro player would be, though. Either way, I see this as things functioning the way it is meant to be. The Welsh Premier League is more or less an amateur league FFS, how do you not understand that??? In the default data for FM18 only one of the teams is professional (TNS) and two of the twelve sides are amateur sides. The other nine are semi pro teams with players on a mix of part time, non-contract, amateur & youth contracts. You also talk of playing in the Europa League for a fiver like they are playing in the group stages or something. Even TNS rarely make it through more than one or two qualifying rounds with one appearance in the playoff back in 2010/11 their best European result. Losing in the 1st qualifying round earns you about £90k while losing in the 2nd qualifying round is about £200k. Decent money for a semi pro side but not exactly the multi millions you imply. In the default data set by researchers its showing £21 a month for youth contracts which is about your £5 a week as a minimal level. Out of your three pics further up the first two don't look so bad but the 3rd guy at 22yo I wouldn't have thought would have accepted that sort of level of contract so I would probably report that for review by SI.
