coloneldecker
I'm looking to get my side playing in a way which gets them to the byline to cut the ball back for the striker or incoming midfielders. I currently play a 4231 with 2 inside forwards as the wide men and attacking full backs but have noticed a lot of overlooked crossing opportunities which I would like to put an end to. I have been using retain possession, look for overlap and work ball into box commands. In order to try achieve an increase in cut backs I plan to change the wide men to wingers asking them and the team as a whole play with more width. I will drop the retain possession and work ball into box commands and switch the overlap to underlap as well as ask my full backs to cut inside with the ball. Does those changes and instructions make sense to you guys given what I'm looking to achieve or am I missing some important ideas that I need to get my team playing high and wide? The look for overlap makes your wide players to hold on to the ball, so removing it might help. Retain possession reduces through balls and lowers tempo, so it doesn't have an effect on crossing. Work ball into box reduces crosses, which might be a good shout for this situation. Sounds weird as you want crosses, but you want them only from the byline in good situations, not as much as possible. Players don't really do many cutbacks in FM from the byline which is a shame, but I would try to make sure your wingers have cross from byline PI set (I think it's a default on attack duty wingers) and also set your crosses to low from Team instructions. Also you need to make sure that you have the incoming midfielders running to the box. Attacking midfielders, shadow strikers, central midfielders on attack, mezzalas especially on attack, maybe box to box midfielders, who arrive to the box. Rashidi
Basically you want to get overloads going, you get the AI to commit to one side of the pitch, freeing up a 1v1 chance. That play either goes to the byeline, gets goal side or does a cutback. Its a high quality chance and you will see your strikers get crazy conversion rates like 1 goal in 2 attempts. I've done a series of videos, that help. From last season I did "exploit the golden zone" an older video which explains the importance of the golden zone, and how to control it. Then I did a video on Overloads to explain how you can create these overloads, I have another video on Overloads scheduled to go out soon. I have never used the overlap shout to get these 1v1 chances or cutbacks. I just use the roles and duties in the game to create zones of control. thats really all you need to do. I did link my videos in another thread. There is also a playlist where you will these videos on my channel at Bustthenet. Alternatively you can look at some of the pinned threads where I went into detail on how we can create these.
