Mate. I'm 45yrs old and I've been playing FM since it came out on the Amiga. So less of the sarcasm son. Of course I know there are roles stated as anchorman, deeplying playmaker, etc. But i would rather one was named as holding midfielder.

Nothing of those two characteristics you mentioned, demands less sarcasm. Hell, you could even say they justify his comment even more.

But on topic, I deem this unnecessary as well, there are multiple roles that overlap this plus with individual tactics and commands you can make a player suit this role. Also, there are stats of a player that supports this, so it kind of a natural role and should keep this middle ground of coach-made / player characteristics. To me at least it does not justify a new classifier, those should be for the truly unique roles.

Again this feels more of a tactic or instruction and based on a single attribute/action and does not constitute a whole different way of playing. Only in combination with other actions/attributes does it become new role and those I feel are already in game.

there probably is a case for giving the vanilla CM(D) role the name "holding midfielder" to draw more attention to it and give AI managers a preference for using it. I'm of the opinion FM actually has too many specialist roles, but it's certainly more of a real and commonly understood specialist role than "Raumdeuter" which was basically a joke made by Muller...

All I hear about is holding midfielders. I never hear about defensive ones, deeplying ones, anchor ones, etc.

In English football we don't have them. Michael Carrick was a holding midfielder. Enough said.

Holding midfielder is a role and needs a place and a status.

I don't think the other roles and titles cover it in my opinion.

It's about time it was given a title, role and a choice for a midfielder in FM.

A holding midfielder role would be brilliant when playing LLM in Britain instead of daft midfield multiple roles.

And I apologise for the old kranky stuff. At 45 I get a little upset and confused...

But the thing is, all he did was try to explain it was already in the game and you can already do it and you got all aggressive for no reason.

holding midfielder needs to be an option as a roll. especially when playing in British football management. I don't want an anchor, mez whatever, when I play as a lower league manager, I need a holding midfielder. not 5 obscure options.

as for being aggressive, I am sincerely sorry. I can get emotional and passionate.

a holding midfielder is not a deep lying playmaker, hes not an anchorman.

hes a holding midfielder. just my opinion for what its worth.

I can remember 'support striker' being a role not so long ago on FM, so why not a holding midfielder? why make roles complicated?

Holding midfielder is a role. its used by pundits and is recognised. recognise it and embrace.

Just use Anchor Man. It's basically the same thing as Holding Midfielder. I think you should change your topic to simply changing the names of the roles, rather than adding a whole new role with the same instructions just with a different name.

As far as I'm aware, Anchor Man is the holding midfielder role. Also, just saying "a holding midfielder is a holding midfielder and needs to be a separate role" isn't useful to the developers. What would it entail? What instructions would be fixed for it? How would it work? What would you expect from that role?
