A huge win for Stoke.

Comprehensive.

Man Utd won the Manchester Derby. Nottingham Forest will be disappointed to have been held at home by Leicester. Villa squeezed past Swindon. Stoke are on a roll.

Very pleasing. Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink scored a tremendous hat-trick. The away goal means this one is far from over though.

This was very, very pleasing. To come from behind and win at Anfield again, especially with such a changed side, is very good stuff. This competition is far from the priority, but we want to win and you can see that mentality throughout my squad.

A thrilling game, but the last thing we needed was extra time. I'm delighted to have won though. Matt Le Tissier's ball and Tony Yeboah's finish for the second goal were both exquisite. I tried a new formation here, with very attacking wingers and two deep lying centre-mids. Young goalkeeper, Hans-Jorg Butt, was the hero of the day in the penalty shootout, as he saved two penalties and scored one of his own.

We're simply flying. Wednesday played well, but we were so solid at the back, and clinical in front of goal.

It was a little nervy in the end after Beboto scored a cracker, but really we had more than enough chances to put the tie to bed. We have ourselves a tie with Porto in the next round.

Spurs scored seven of the ten goals scored at Stamford Bridge. Brian McClair scored all four as Newcastle hammered Everton. Oldham took all three points away from Old Trafford. West Ham upset Forest.

Top drawer stuff. Rod Wallace ended a little barren spell for him in emphatic fashion. We're firing on all cylinders so far this season.

What a huge win for Forest at Villa Park.

The table:

We've dropped off the top, but only because we played only two league games this month. We have two games in hand. Spurs have propelled themselves into the mix. Everton are having a shocking season. Spurs' Peter Shreeves picked up the manager of the month award, player of the month went to Spurs striker, Fabrizio Ravenelli, and the goal of the month was scored by West Ham's Nick Henry against Swindon.

Watch our October highlights:

Here's how December lines up for us:

dec.thumb.png.2d89fefbe0e1daef0d31fae906f3cd96.png

Talk about a hectic Christmas schedule. I'm going to have to make full use of my squad, as I have done all season so far. It'll be nice to play some home games after a run of games away from home. Of course, the big one for us is the visit of Man Utd.

DECEMBER 1993:

Heartbreaking to concede so late, but we didn't put the game to bed. Even worse, David Batty suffered cruciate ligament damage and will be out for a very long time. The good news is Nigel Martyn is back a little bit earlier than predicted.

1971058202_ScreenShot2018-08-23at14_21_53.thumb.png.fd3039201b23600b1241d2570a6e3bec.png

The first North London Derby of the season finished goalless, despite Spurs playing the last half hour with ten men. Villa squandered a two goal lead at Anfield. Everton picked up a big three points at Hillsborough.

I really hate Crystal Palace. No matter how good we are and how bad they are, they are still our ultimate bogey side. Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink had a tremendous goal harshly ruled out for offside, and Palace went up the other end and scored the winner. Galling.

We needed these three points after the last two games, but it was really looking like another frustrating day. 0-1 down, down to then men after Vinnie Jones let his aggression get the bess of him, but we dug in and pulled out a fantastic three points. My substitutes came up big for me - John Sheridan scored with his first touch, and Rod Wallace blasted home a tremendous winner.

Ruben Sosa's brace gave Forest all three points at Anfield. Ten man Villa could only draw at Q.P.R. Stoke surprised Man Utd. West Ham hammered Crystal Palace.

One of our games in hand, and boy did we make the most of it. Top drawer stuff. Gary Speed is playing in the midfield holding role vacated by David Batty.

There's no better feeling than beating this lot. A dominating performance was sandwiched by an early goal and a late goal.

A pleasing win and a good runout for some fringe players, including Steve Hodge who is back from quite a long injury layoff. With Batty out, the timing couldn't be better for Hodge. There was a first goal for Kevin Sharp. We're still competing on all fronts.

Hard to find anything to complain about here. Maybe that we conceded two goals, but we played for an hour with a makeshift defence after Lucas Radebe suffered a broken collarbone that will keep him out for a while. Gary Speed dropped back into the centre of defence and did well. I tend to prefer attacking options on the bench, and this is the risk you run. Losing Radebe is a big blow - he and David Wetherall have formed a fine partnership.

Arsenal were well beaten at home by Stoke. This result ended Brian Clough's tenure at Highbury:

Merry Christmas. What on earth happened here? I rested a couple of players, but I couldn't have imagined in my wildest dreams a scoreline like this. To be fair to Stoke, they're on a hell of a run. But deary me. When you look at the match stats it's clear it was just Stoke's day. We have to put it behind us, everyone gets tanked at some point. Unfortunately, this was our game in hand.

Disappointing not to bounce back from the Stoke game with a win, and disappointing not beat a side we have beaten three times this season already. At least Wetherall and Newsome looked more solid at the back than Wetherall and Fairclough. We had enough chances, we just didn't take them.

Unfortunately for us, both Villa and Forest capitalised on our failure to win. Here's the table:

Top by the skin of our teeth. It's an exciting three horse race for the title. Wimbledon's dire form has led to a managerial change:

harford.thumb.png.f232440e6f35d4562425cf2918b6ba82.png1919777185_ScreenShot2018-08-23at13_37_44.thumb.png.8c6982d9a566c819329c20ad672ad25b.png

John Toshack won the manager of the month award, Andy Impey of Stoke picked up the player's award, and West Ham midfielder, Ian Bishop, scored the goal of the month against Wimbledon.

Watch our December highlights:

Onto the year end awards:

Our own Tony Yeboah was named African Player of the Year again. In other news, I have extended Gordon Strachan's contract by a season, and made him a player-coach in the process.

Let's have a look at January:

jan.thumb.png.fc05bb852a14de6add5022e7ed9d303f.png

A big month. We have all the domestic cups to compete for, as well as a crucial trip to Aston Villa in the league.

It wasn't as comfortable as it should have been, we conceded some sloppy goals. Thankfully, our forwards are in razor sharp form.

A fine performance and a solid win. Unfortunately, Tony Yeboah picked up a knock that will see him miss a couple of games. Thankfully, it's not more serious.

Forest grabbed a late winner at Spurs, but Villa lost at Newcastle. After our match, Arsenal appointed Deportivo manager, Ottmar Hitzfeld:

When you get this far into a competition you really want to win it. We played well enough that we shouldn't have needed extra time, and with the fixtures coming thick and fast, the extra thirty minutes is the last thing we needed. Great timing for Gordon Strachan and Tony Dorigo to chip in with their first goals of the season.

So frustrating. This is two points dropped and no there is no getting around that. An amateurish mixup between Tony Dorigo and Nigel Martyn gifted them their second goal. Not good enough.

Newcastle did us another favour by following up their win over Villa with a win over Forest. Unfortunately, Villa squeezed past Stoke. Everton and Arsenal shared the points in an eight goal thriller in Ottmar Hitzfield's first game in charge of The Gunners.

I had a tough call to make with my lineup in this one. Although it isn't the most prestigious competition, at the end of the day it's the quarter-final, and it's a tough away fixture. I decided to field a strong team, anticipating that they would too, and since we play again at the weekend, any impact on player fitness would effect us both. It kind of backfired - they rested more players than we did, and it went to extra time. We won though, albeit on penalties. I felt we played well enough over the course of ninety minutes, and the extra time period, to win the game outright. It was too much to ask that Vinnie Jones play 120 minutes without picking up two yellow cards. Unfortunately, Rod Wallace suffered a sprained ankle that will sideline him for a few weeks. In better news, Tony Yeboah should be fit for the weekend.

What a huge three points. I gave quite a few players an extra day off to recover for this match, and it worked a treat. To be honest, this game shouldn't have ended with such a close scoreline, we absolutely battered them. We're simply shipping too many goals at the minute. We're really missing Lucas Radebe and David Batty. Tony Yeboah returned in incredible form.

Arsenal beat Man Utd.

The quality finishing of Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink was the difference here. We're a very resilient side - after going behind inside just thirty seconds, we equalised a minute later, and were in front ten minutes later. Vinnie Jones picked up another stupid red card. It's the final straw for me. I knew what I was getting with Vinnie, but this is ridiculous. I fined him two weeks wages, expecting him to hit the roof. To my amazement he accepted it without complaint. I love the guy, but he can't be relied upon, I'll be trying to move him on in the summer, and this may be the last game he ever plays for Leeds.

It's a win, but I'm feeling frustrated again. We're just conceding too many goals at the minute. Hopefully Lucas Radebe will be back sooner rather than later. Tony Dorigo is sick, so Jason Wilcox filled in at left wing-back.

Look at that scoreline between Stoke and Forest. Incredible. Villa could only draw at Crystal Palace. An Ian Wright hat-trick gave Arsenal all three points at Stamford Bridge.

The table:

It's good reading for us, but it's very tight. If only we had beaten Leicester. The battle at the bottom is just as tight. I would not be disappointed to see our bogey team, Crystal Palace, relegated. Man Utd are having another disappointing season. I won the manager of the month award, Liverpool's Paulinho Santos picked up the player of the month award, and the goal of the month was scored by Ruben Sosa in that incredible game between Forest and Stoke.

Let's preview February:

feb.thumb.png.7d902e94bf3b4947b283a470f5892441.png

Talk about a full plate. In the shortest month we have nine fixtures. Obviously, the month starts with a crucial game when we visit Forest. We're competing on all fronts which is pleasing, but the problem with that is it threatens to leave us burnt out and ending the season empty handed. I really need to balance my squad carefully.

FEBRUARY 1994:

Huge performance, huge result. The key moment in the game was Nigel Martyn saving Teddy Sherigham's penalty. Tony Yeboah made it 2-0 just a few moments later. Martyn pulled out some great saves, and Yeboah was ruthless in front of goal. Kudos also to young left-back, Kevin Sharp, who had a fine game. Unfortunately, Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink picked up a knock that will sideline him for a couple of weeks.

Villa hammered Everton. Chelsea are still in the title hunt after hammering Southampton.

Not a bad result considering we were second best all over the pitch. There was a debut off the bench for 16 year old attacker, Andy Gray, son of former Leeds player, Frank Gray, and nephew of Leeds legend, Eddie Gray, who is on my coaching staff.

Frustrating to concede so late on. It doesn't change our game plan too much though, a 1-0 win at Elland Road will see us through.

Very pleasing stuff from some players that have been on the periphery this season. There was a full league game for Lee Bowyer, who is a huge part of my future plans, so any time I can get him involved with the first team it's like money in the bank.

Forest hammered Palace, but Villa could only draw at Old Trafford. Chelsea are in fine form.

We beat Crystal Palace! It might only be the Full Members Cup, but it's the semi-final and I want to win it, so I played a strong team. Matt Le Tissier came up with his first goals of the season. It's been a frustrating season for Le Tissier, who has had to watch from the sidelines for most of it.

This was a potential banana skin, so it was nice to put the game to bed early and take our foot off the pedal a little. I've given Vinnie Jones another chance (needs must), and he didn't even pick up a yellow card. His long throw also set up the first goal.

In a big game at between Villa and Chelsea, Mark Hughes scored an injury time winner to effectively end Chelsea's title hopes.

And so ends our interest in the FA Cup. I thought we played well and were deserving of at least a draw. I had to rest players here, we have the second leg against Porto is just two days time. On the plus side, Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink is back. There was another calm performance from Vinnie Jones.

Devastating. I genuinely can't believe we didn't score. It's been a terrible few days, but we can't let our heads drop, we have three competitions that are very winnable, and I want to win all three. On the plus side, Rod Wallace is back.

We're in a very strong position. Some disappointments this month, no doubt, but also plenty to smile about. Wimbledon look like goners. Amazingly, it looks like Everton might be too. I won the manager of the month award, while Tony Yeboah picked up the player of the month award. The goal of the month was scored by Q.P.R.'s Bradley Allen against Oldham.

Watch our February highlights:

On the staff front, our scout, John McClelland, has left to take up the managerial reigns at Brentford. I wish him well:

Terrible first half, in which Les Ferdinand bullied our centre-halves. To be fair, we battered them in the second half, but the damage was done and our finishing wasn't good enough.

Unfortunately for us, Forest came from behind to win at Arsenal. Everton picked up a huge three points in the Merseyside Derby. Villa were hammered at Leicester.

A big performance when we needed it most. Our strikers have been incredible this season. It's a nice boost for our goal difference as well. This was our game in hand and restored our five point lead at the top.

This was the kind of result that champions pick up. A tricky away fixture, we kept plugging away and found a way to pick up the three points.

I'm devastated. We were cruising until Gordon Strachan suffered a broken foot. I had used all my subs, and had no one who could really fill in alongside young Mark Tinkler in the centre of midfield. We got overrun in midfield, and were lucky not to get beaten in the end. It's two points dropped though, and that's another key player out for the rest of the season. Gary McAllister, Lucas Radebe, Gary Speed, and Tony Yeboah were all rested as they were tired following the international break.

I don't know what happened in the second-half, but it simply wasn't good enough. It's as if we stayed in the dressing room. Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink scored a beautiful 25 yard drive into the top corner, but unfortunately it was for naught.

744065771_ScreenShot2018-08-28at00_51_19.thumb.png.ad4c4752e15308358ea7f7e840278c1a.png

At least Villa kind of did us a favour by coming from two goals down at Forest. Arsenal won at Anfield.

The table:

Our lead is down to two points as we head into the home stretch. Villa are all but out of the race, it's down to us and Forest again. We have an identical goal difference. The relegation battle is as tight as ever. Q.P.R. manager, Gerry Francis won the manager of the month award, Les Ferdinand won the player's award, and young Arsenal attacker, Sylvain Wiltord, scored the goal of the month against Liverpool.

Another trophy in the bag. We dominated the game, especially when they went down to ten men, but we didn't get the second goal, so it was nervy until the end. Gary Speed and Vinnie Jones both had knocks, so I moved Lucas Radebe into the defensive midfield position, and brought Jon Newsome into the centre of defence. Alessandro Del Piero is going to be out for a few weeks with a back strain.

What a great result. It's a huge boost to our goal difference, and it couldn't be any more timely. Tony Yeboah took a knock to the head in the last match, and wasn't risked here.

Even better for us, Forest were held at Leicester. The Manchester Derby ended 2-2. Chelsea edged out Liverpool.

Unbelievable. Throwing away two points like this at this stage just isn't good enough. If we don't win the title, this is the moment it was lost. To be fair, Benoit Cauet scored a worldie.

A fine performance and a satisfying result. Another nice goal difference booster too. It was nice to avenge what happened at Elland Road earlier in the season.

Brilliant! West Ham raced into a 3-0 lead at Forest, thanks to a Trevor Morley hat-trick, and even though Forest fought back, The Hammers held on. We travel to West Ham next. Spurs hammered Chelsea. Wimbledon upset Villa.

Great stuff. The goals took a while to come, but we were always in control and kept plugging away. Gary Kelly was suspended, and Mel Sterland had a knock, so Jon Newsome came in at right-back.

There's two games left and one win will secure the title. Our goal difference is looking great also. Crystal Palace are relegated, they can't possibly make up that big of a goal swing.  Newcastle manager, Liam Brady, won the manager of the month award, his player, Francesco Baiano, won the player of the month award, and West Ham's Brian Rice scored the goal of the month against Sheffield Wednesday.

Watch our April highlights:

Let's see what we have left:

Our trip to Everton will not be easy - they desperately need the points. Palace may be down, but they never give us an easy time.

Champions! I knew this wouldn't be an easy game, and so it proved. With the quality they have, for Everton to be in this position is a disgrace. Credit to my lads for digging in and pulling out the result they needed.

Palace's relegation was confirmed, despite their win against West Ham. Swindon's win means that Everton and Wimbledon are both down after losing. Forest hammered Liverpool.

Good riddance to a team I will not miss playing next season! Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink bagged himself a hat-trick inside the opening eleven minutes. I was hoping for a real rout after that, but it wasn't to be. A satisfying ending to the season nonetheless.

We won the title by five clear points in the end, but it never felt that comfortable. Nottingham Forest are a hell of a team. The likes of Liverpool, Arsenal, and Manchester United are stagnating badly. On that front, Man Utd will be hoping a new manager can inject some life into them next season. Everton and Wimbledon will also be looking for fresh faces to get them back up at the first time of asking:

The manager of the month award went to John Toshack for some reason, and Everton's Tony Daley picked up the player of the month award. Onto the seasonal awards:

It was a satisfying season for our players on a personal level, as well as as a team. I won the manager of the year award.

Some stats:

I felt I had great squad depth this season, although there are some players who will be disappointed with their lack of game time. I will have go evaluate what youngsters are ready to step up into the squad, and move players out to make room for them. My three main strikers (Yeboah, Hasselbaink, and Wallace) have over 100 goals between them, which is incredible. David Wetherall had a great season in his first year as a regular starter. Gary Kelly stepped up and became my first choice right-back.

Let's look at my transfer dealings:

1507215758_ScreenShot2018-08-29at16_03_47.thumb.png.425bd272c5a256fef920ae1d7eb9fce0.png

I haven't been too active, spending £3.37 million and bringing in £6.29 million. The reason for this is I have several young players who have been out on loan who I feel are ready to step up into my squad. In order to make room for them, I have had to move on some players that were on the periphery of my squad. Chris Fairclough has been a fine servant to me and the club, but he has fallen down the pecking order over the last couple of seasons, and he moves to Spanish side, Cadiz, for £650,000. Steve Hodge is now 31 years old, and he is well down the pecking order in my midfield, so he has moved north to Aberdeen for £525,000. Vinnie Jones has only ever been backup since I signed him two years ago, and unfortunately his disciplinary record makes him simply too unreliable. With Alf-Inge Haaland and Olivier Dacourt ready to stake their claims for first team football, a million pound move to Lyon represents good business for all parties. Matt Le Tissier was a luxury buy when he signed two years ago. He did well in his first season, but he struggle for game time last year, so a £2 million fee, with a £500,000 profit, was too good to turn down from Real Sociedad. David White only signed last year, but with so many strikers ahead of him, and with us moving away from using wingers, White was going to find game time just as limited this season, if not more so. His move to Scottish champions Rangers, for £1.5 million, represents a small profit for us.

Let's look at our incomings:

MARTIN KEOWN (£1,700,000):

1936953455_ScreenShot2018-08-29at15_30_21.thumb.png.45351779216c3fb599c2e700cdddfef9.png

Plucked from relegated Everton for what I feel is a paltry fee, Keown is really my only senior signing. He's a world class centre-back in the prime of his career, and a born leader as well.

MARK VIDUKA (£2,900):

1676454942_ScreenShot2018-08-29at15_29_47.thumb.png.696bcbc0441986974d64a17f49c24db1.png

This is a deal that has been done for a couple years. The wait was simply until Viduka turned 18. He's a mercurial talent, a powerful striker possessed of incredible technical ability. His only drawback is he can be lazy, but I intend to ensure that this isn't a problem.

EIRIK BAKKE (£80,000):

321617571_ScreenShot2018-08-29at15_29_53.thumb.png.cb8dcdeea43819cf12aabb606dcb2ed2.png

16 year old midfielder with a lot of potential.

ALONSO ESPINOZA (Free):

Teenage goalkeeper with a lot of potential.

THIERRY HENRY (£1,000,000):

This has the potential to be the best signing I'll ever make. £1 million is a lot of money for a 16 year old, but this lad literally has the world at his feet. I thought about loaning him out, but I want to monitor him at close quarters and get him involved as much as I can right off the bat.

OLIVER PEREZ (£500,000):

865899697_ScreenShot2018-08-29at15_30_29.thumb.png.2b47c82f75317d2cdb3070e0f6c916d6.png

Already a Columbian international, this young right back has the potential to oust Gary Kelly as our long term right-back. He has been loaned to Luton for the season.

DANNY MURPHY (£94,000):

930606799_ScreenShot2018-08-29at15_30_36.thumb.png.357e20e61ef17d77db98a4c053be1eeb.png

A midfielder with great technique, passing range and an eye for goal, Murphy made the first team breakthrough at Third Division Crewe last season, making 46 starts and scoring 14 goals. He has been loaned to Kilmarnock for the season.

There are quite a few youngsters moving out on loan for first team experience. Mark Tinkler played for our first team 9 times last season, and he moves to Charlton. Dominic Matteo was a first team regular for Celtic last season, and he has rejoined The Hoops for another season. Matteo is very much a part of my long term plans. Jason Wilcox struggled for game time following his move from Oldham last year, but at 23 years old, I still see a future for him at Leeds, and a season of first team football at Sunderland will do him the world of good. Young goalkeeper, Hans-Jorg Butt, has dropped down a division to Portsmouth. Juninho Pernambucano tore up the Scottish Premier League for Motherwell last season, and this season he moves to Real Sporting in La Liga. I thought about keeping Juninho in my squad this season, but in the end I decided a season of high level first team football would be better for his development. Darren Huckerby will continue his development at Coventry City. Huckerby struggled for game time on loan at Barnsley last season, so he really needs to nail down a first team place this campaign. Rob Bowman (Scunthorpe), Mark Ford (Millwall), Andy Couzens (Blackburn), and John Berry (West Brom) are the other youngsters whose development I will be closely monitoring.

Let's take a look at those players who spent last season out on loan, but will be a part of my first-team squad this season:

ALF-INGE HAALAND:

1275180684_ScreenShot2018-08-29at15_30_59.thumb.png.e9b42f04656f46f7ee81167b87664ea6.png

Haaland proved he was ready for First Division football at Oldham last season, having had a fine season for Dundee Utd the year before. At 21 years old he is ready to compete for a place in my team. His versatility makes him a fine asset to my squad.

OLIVIER DACOURT:

383556627_ScreenShot2018-08-29at15_31_09.thumb.png.dc2abe1747fd71ca4a49bf17f44572d0.png

The French U-21 international midfielder oozes class, and he proved that last season at Sheffield Wednesday. He'll be stepping up to the role vacated by Vinnie Jones, as backup to David Batty, who I have mentoring Dacourt. Dacourt may only be an understudy at the minute, but I see him as a huge part of my long term plans.

NOEL WHELAN:

1540223279_ScreenShot2018-08-29at15_31_18.thumb.png.4d78d352ad4faa9b1b467ba8ea39d803.png

It's a big ask for any forward to dislodge the like of Yeboah, Hasselbaink, and Wallace, but Leeds born Whelan has a touch of class, which combined with his passion for the club, make him worthy of being given a shot. The 19 year old scored 35 goals for Cambridge United in Division Three last season.

JAMIE FORRESTER:

465804395_ScreenShot2018-08-29at15_31_25.thumb.png.0e6fc912e9316127e16a96745ca35f0e.png

19 year old Forrester joined form Auxerre alongside Kevin Sharp two years ago, and while Sharp has established himself as my backup left-back, Forrester has been scoring goals and gaining experience in Division Two, first for Luton, and then last season for Sheffield United, where he contributed 9 league goals to their promotion.

Let's take a look at what the other First Division clubs have been doing in the transfer market:

ARSENAL:

684822547_ScreenShot2018-08-29at20_38_30.thumb.png.f710dc81897b03cf37d83aa829e20178.png190740250_ScreenShot2018-08-29at20_38_35.thumb.png.2edb94dda1f86c0b833e9a751422ff10.png380741234_ScreenShot2018-08-29at20_38_41.thumb.png.8ece5ef1fe5046dfb0790b6900a3d0a1.png695553433_ScreenShot2018-08-29at20_38_46.thumb.png.4070f3de8131016a5e61feae503c6ecb.png1541119172_ScreenShot2018-08-29at20_43_18.thumb.png.125d90880c506676e85c83f17b8a8130.png

Most were surprised when Everton were relegated last season, and just as big a surprise was the fact that striker, Tony Cottee, couldn't get a game for them. At 29 years old, Cottee still has a lot to offer, and Arsenal have picked him up for just £725,000. Daniel Fonseca was about the only bright spot of a miserable season for Crystal Palace, as they suffered relegation, but they have lost him to Arsenal for £2.9 million, only a year after shelling out £4.7 million for him. £525,000 is a small fee for a quality goalkeeper like Tim Flowers (Southampton), but it's difficult to see him dislodging David Seaman in the Arsenal first team. At just 17 years old, Jason Euell is a forward with a lot of potential, and he joins for £550,000 from Wimbledon, as The Gunners continue to raid the relegated clubs. Euell has been immediately loaned to Blackburn. Another young forward signing and then being loaned is Diego Tristan (Malaga, £475,000).

There are quite a lot of outgoings at Highbury, as Ottmar Hitzfeld puts his stamp on the squad. David Rocastle has been a mainstay at Arsenal for so many years, it's hard to believe he's still only 27 years old. He struggled for game time last season, and he moves across London to Chelsea in a controversial move. Paul Davis is another of the old guard moving on. He hasn't seen much first team action for a couple of years now, and he moves to Oldham for £130,000. Rob Lee is a player I feel has been underused by Arsenal, and I think his £575,000 transfer to Sheffield Wednesday will be a great move for The Owls. Speaking of Arsenal and Sheff Wed, Carlton Palmer's £1.2 million transfer from Wednesday last summer was an absolute disaster - he made just two substitute appearances, neither of which were in the league. He has moved to Q.P.R. for just £450,000. If Palmer's transfer sounds bad, get a load of this - Josu Urrutia was bought for £1.3 million last year, and failed to make a single appearance. He has now been sold to Werder Bremen for just £475,000. I've said it will be tough for Tim Flowers to dislodge David Seaman in the Arsenal goal - Alan Kelly couldn't do it, and he moves on to Manchester United for less than half of the £300,000 fee The Gunners paid for him last season. Another disastrous signing. Eric Antwi is a strange case - he joined on a free transfer last year and spent the season on loan at Southampton. He has a lot of potential, but I guess Arsenal felt £2.3 million from West Ham was too good to turn down. Rounding out those leaving Highbury, and compounding last summer as possibly the worst transfer dealings ever done by any club, Portuguese defender, Helder, has joined Roma for £2.4 million, some £800,000 less than Arsenal paid for him. On the plus side, Arsenal are in the black this season - they spent £5.17 million and brought in £8.41 million.

Villa have made some serious signings as they look to build on a good season last season and mount a serious title challenge. They have made possibly the most eye catching signing of the summer, taking Man Utd's talismanic striker, Alan Shearer, for just £2 million. How on earth this deal got done is beyond me, it certainly flew under my radar as I would have tried to hijack it in a heartbeat! Shearer scored 39 goals in 70 league games for The Red Devils, and at 23 years old is already one of the best strikers in the country, and he can only get better. Shearer will link up with Swiss international striker, Stephane Chapuisat, who joins from Roma for £3.9 million. The signing of young midfielder, Lee Clark, from Newcastle for £1.6 million could be one of the deals of the season, as could the £1 million it took to land Colin Hendry from relegated Crystal Palace. Teenage striker, Craig Connor has joined from Watford for £130,000. Connor made one substitute appearance for The Hornets, scoring one goal. He has joined Walsall on loan.

Villa have lost players too. Dwight Yorke's goalscoring heroics last season caught the attention of Catalan giants, Barcelona, and they have landed their man for £2.7 million. Goalkeeper, Mark Bosnich, has moved to Sampdoria for £1.6 million. Bosnich lost his place in the Villa side last season to David James. Bulent Kormaz has left for Porto for £2.4 million, which is a surprise considering he cost Villa £5.75 million two years ago. Garry Parker has fallen well out of favour at Villa Park, and he has moved to Crystal Palace for £350,000. Young full back, Marc Edworthy, moves to Everton for £575,000, without really getting a chance at Villa Park. Experienced striker, Jorn Anderson, has been loaned to Fenerbahce. Villa have spent £8.63 million, while recouping £7.62 million.

CHELSEA:

The biggest news at Stamford Bridge is their manager, George Graham, leaving to take over Man Utd. Brian Clough has taken up the reigns at Stamford Bridge:

Chelsea's biggest signing is £3 million attacking midfielder, Francesco Dell'Anno, from Udinese. Teenage midfielder, Dmitri Khoklhlov has joined from Dinamo Moscow for £1.4 million. Young winger, Allan Johnston, joins from relegated Everton for £2.5 million. The capture of David Rocastle from rivals Arsenal for £1.8 million could prove to be a great deal. In a shock deal, commanding centre-back, Gary Pallister, has been signed from Man Utd for just £575,000. To be fair, Pallister fell somewhat out of favour at Old Trafford last season, but still seems like quite a surprising deal. Teenage midfielder, Andy Nicholson, has been signed from Crystal Palace for £525,000, and immediately loaned to Wolves.

In one of the most shocking moves of the summer, Dennis Wise has left Chelsea for Celtic in a £1.6 million deal. Gareth Hall also heads north, joining Motherwell for £220,000. Ian Snodin has been released on a free transfer, only one year after being signed from Everton for £450,000. Snodin only made two appearances in his time at Stamford Bridge. Defender, David Lee, hasn't made a single first team appearance in the last two seasons, so getting a £350,000 fee for him from Coventry City seems like a great piece of business. Paul Rideout failed to break into Chelsea's first team since joining two years ago, but if he can recapture his earlier potential his £145,000 fee could be a snip for Stoke. Left-back, Frank Sinclair, seems like he has potential, but he has failed to kick on in the last couple of seasons, and he drops down a division  to Charlton for £90,000, in an attempt to kickstart his career. Ian Pearce is a young centre-back with a lot of potential, so his sale to Stoke for £850,000, comes as something of a shock. The versatile George Wright, joins newly promoted Sheffield United for £575,000. Chelsea have laid out quite a decent chunk of change, spending £9.8 million, and bringing in £3.83 million.

LEICESTER CITY:

1630691598_ScreenShot2018-08-29at23_09_17.thumb.png.9ff300abbbf2a52b1a09f5fef517f437.png2124365739_ScreenShot2018-08-29at23_09_24.thumb.png.f5f36a4374c79ef2c1ae3047ca96712b.png407423162_ScreenShot2018-08-29at23_09_32.thumb.png.a05db1b4b6f4a682188433f511152316.png

Leicester haven't done much business - their biggest signing is £2.2 million midfielder, Stefano Salvatori, from Ascoli. Experienced winger, Pat Nevin, should be a solid signing from Everton for £800,000. Teenage full-back, Oliver Teliby, has a lot of potential, and he joins from Caen for £1.4 million.

Leaving Filbert Street are Ali Mauchlen (Barnsley, free), Tony James (Millwall, £82,000), Rob McKinnon (Hearts, £125,000), and Gary Coatsworth (Oxford, £45,500). Leicester have sent £4.4 million, while bringing in just £252,000.

Liverpool manager, Bobby Robson, really needs to get his team performing this season. 7th place last season is just not good enough for a club of this stature. Les Ferdinand scored 30 league goals for Q.P.R. last season, and his arrival for £2.3 million could be a great signing. Centre-back, Jes Hogh, joins from Marseille for £3 million. The only other arrivals at Anfield are young goalkeepers - 22 year old, Zvonko Milojevic, from Crystal Palace for £1.1 million, and 19 year old, Sander Westerveld, from Twente on a free transfer.

There have been some baffling departures from Anfield. 22 year old winger, Steve McManaman, scored 16 goals last season, and his £2.1 million move to Aberdeen is absolutely baffling. Aberdeen have new mega-rich owners and are on a spending spree. On the theme of selling their future, Robbie Fowler to Crystal Palace for £1.7 million, and Jamie Carragher to Coventry for £750,000 are transfers beyond credulity. Granted, Carragher is a 16 year old with no first team experience, but it seems like Bobby Robson has no clue about the potential within his squad. Also leaving Liverpool are Bruce Grobbelaar (Zenit, £13,000), Mike Hooper (Notts County, free), and Mike Marsh (Swindon, £350,000). Liverpool have spent £6.4 million, while bringing in £4.91 million.

Luton have been shopping in the bargain basement in an attempt to survive in Division One, but I feel their manager, Glenn Hoddle, has managed his budget well. Veteran striker, and perennial thorn in my side, Mark Bright, has joined from Crystal Palace for £92,000. Andy Pearce and Lloyd McGrath have both joined from Coventry for a combined fee of £425,000. Goalkeeper, Mark Beeney, arrives from Brighton for £120,000. Teenage midfielder, Martin Bullock, joins from Barnsley for £245,000. Young attacker, Andy Liddell, looks like a great signing, arriving on a free transfer from Notts County. Joining on loan are Oliver Perez from us, and Stuart Nethercott from Spurs.

Leaving Luton are Ken Gillard (released), Paul Holsgrove (Rochdale, £3,500), Richard Harvey (Brighton, £44,000), and Graham Rodger (Airdrie, £10,750). Luton have sent a million, while bringing in just £58,250.

MANCHESTER CITY:

City haven't done anything particularly eye catching - Dean Gordon (Crystal Palace, £600,000), Rory Delap (Carlisle, £31,000), Peter Atherton (Coventry, £235,000), and Glen Little (Crystal Palace, £115,000), and striker, Neil Shipperly, on loan from Chelsea.

Moving on are Mick Wallace (Fleetwood, £2,800), David Brightwell (Southend, £35,000), and Martyn Margetson (Blackburn, £28,500). City have spent just over a million, while bringing in in just over £66,000. It's hard to see City improving much on last season's 12th place finish.

MANCHESTER UNITED:

The biggest news at Old Trafford is the sacking of Lennie Lawrence, and the appointment of Chelsea manager, George Graham:

2059963467_ScreenShot2018-08-29at10_19_59.thumb.png.9914d08ec4d5708cffbfa335c30ca8ef.png

The transfer business at Old Trafford has been nothing short of baffling. Coming in are Alan Kelly from Arsenal for £145,000, Bosnian international striker, Meho Kodro, from Real Sociedad for £2.1 million, and Spanish midfielder, Chano, from Sevilla (where he couldn't get a game) for £900,000.

The other side of the coin has seen a clear out of some of the best young talent in the country - David Beckham (Everton, £1.7 million), Mario Stanic (Aberdeen, £1.2 million), Alan Shearer (Aston Villa, £2 million), Adrian Doherty (Stoke, £1.1 million), Nicky Butt (Crystal Palace, £1.2 million), Paul Scholes (Everton, £2 million), and Phil Neville (Coventry, £600,000). That makes for shocking reading. Also leaving Old Trafford are Neil Whitworth (Blackburn, £175,000), Brian Carey (Wolves, £140,000), and Mark Robins (Middlesbrough, £230,000).  Vinny Samways has returned to Spurs after just one season, where he hardly featured, for £650,000, some £450,000 than Man Utd paid for him. Man Utd brought in £11.57 million, while spending just £3.14 million. What is going on? This is a shocking window for Man Utd. I don't think we have to worry about them troubling the top of the table.

Newcastle have made a number of signings. Somebody obviously feels they made a mistake letting Alan Thompson leave last season, and they have re-signed him for £2,800,000 from Wimbledon, £800,000 more than they sold him for. Two goalkeepers have been signed - Wilfred Agbonavbare (Rayo, £650,000), and Valerio Fiori (Lazio, £1.5 million). Left-back, Rufus Brevett, looks a solid signing from Crystal Palace for £650,000. Also strengthening the defence are Basile Boli (Marseille, £950,000), and Jason Dodd (Southampton (£675,000). Midfielder, Joe Parkinson, arrives from Norwich for £850,000. Young Rangers striker, Dean Sturridge, scored the goals that fired Sunderland to promotion last season, and now he joins The Black Cats greatest rivals in a loan deal.

Newcastle have lost a couple of big players - striker, Francesco Baiano, was fantastic last season, and his £1.7 million move to Dinamo Moscow seems rather cheap, especially considering Newcastle paid a million more than that for him. For me, the sale of young midfielder, Lee Clark, to Aston Villa for £1.6 million falls into the same category as last season's sale of Alan Thompson. Dominique Herr was a colossal flop after joining for £2.3 million last summer, and he moves onto Everton for just £700,000. Newcastle have spent £8.05 million, while recouping half of that, so it's quite a large outlay for The Magpies.

NORWICH CITY:

Norwich haven't done much business at all. Their only money signing is young midfielder, Jamie Pollock, from Charlton for £500,000. Verteran goalkeeper, Andrea Pazzagli, joins on a free transfer after conceding an amazing 7 goals in 34 matches for Bologna as they won promotion to Serie A last season. Young midfielder, Trevor Sinclair, has struggled to make an impact at Arsenal, but he has a lot of ability and he should be a good loan signing.

On the outgoings front, Norwich have brought in £2.13 million. Moving on are Dave Smith (Bolton, £40,000), John Polston (Coventry, £170,000), Henrik Mortensen (Crystal Palace, £195,000), Darren Eadie (Crystal Palace, £825,000), Adrian Pennock (Reading, £56,000), and Joe Parkinson (Newcastle, £850,000).

Having spent big the past couple of years, and building a team of genuine title contenders, Forest haven't done much business this summer. Then again, maybe like myself, John Toshack doesn't feel his squad needs much. It's hard to see how Gordon Watson (Sheff Wed, £1.3 million) will get much game time given the abundance of attacking talent at Forest's disposal. Goalkeeper, Kevin Pressman, is a steal at £41,500 from Southampton. Arriving on free transfers are high potential teens, Somali and Kristijan Barisic.

The only person leaving Forest for a fee is Carl Tiler to Everton for £215,000. Brian Laws has been released.

It seems like I'm always impressed by Oldham's transfer business, and this year is no exception. They have made a big outlay (£2.5 million) for midfielder, Volodymyr Sharan, from Bari. Relegated Crystal Palace have been raided for three players - Eric Young (£275,000), Geoff Thomas (£125,000), and Mark Kinsella (£750,000). I think that veteran midfielder, Paul Davis, could be a great signing from Arsenal for £130,000. The versatile Julian Darby joins from Notts County for £475,000. Experienced midfielder, Goran Juric, joins from Celta for £500,000. Promising young defender, Riccardo Scimeca, has been loaned from Aston Villa.

Attacking midfielder, Daniel Borimov, is a big loss for Oldham, as he has moved to Dinamo Moscow for £1.6 million. It does, at least, represent a large profit on a player bought for just £100,000. John Keeley has been released, Tom Boyd has moved to Crystal Palace for £145,000 having failed to win a place in the Oldham team, and Wayne Heseltine has joined Swansea for £20,500. Oldham have spent £4.75 million, while bringing in £1.76 million.

Q.P.R. have signed two good goalkeepers - Neil Sullivan (Wimbledon, £500,000), and Maik Taylor (Sunderland, £725,000). Veteran striker, Peter Beardsley, still has a lot of quality, and looks a fine signing at £135,000 from Everton. Carlton Palmer is looking to revive his career following a nightmare spell at Arsenal. He joins for £450,000, and I would back that to be a successful signing. Teenage striker, Luke Beckett, joins from Barnsley for £50,000.

The biggest loss for Rangers is talismanic forward, Les Ferdinand, to Liverpool for £2.3 million. The legendary Ray Wilkins is now 37 years old, but his playing days aren't over yet, although his time at Q.P.R. is - he has moved to Basel on a free transfer. Ceri Hughes was something of a miserable failure at Loftus Road, and he moves to newly promoted Sunderland for £700,000. David Macchiochi has joined Shrewsbury for £22,500. Gary Waddock and Clive Wilson have been released. Q.P.R. have brought in just over £3 million, while spending just £1.86 million.

Sheffield United have made a number of signings as they bid to survive in Division One. They are managed by Arthur Mann. The players joining are Mike Newell (Everton, £245,000), John O'Neil (Dundee Utd, £1.2 million), Massimo Brambati (Parma, £1.3 million), Gary Bodley (Crewe, £46,000), Gary Bowyer (Millwall, £400,000), George Wright (Chelsea, £575,000), Joaquim Neves (Porto, £1.4 million), and Amara Traore (Le Mans, £1.5 million). Goalkeeper, Simon Tracey, has rejoined the club for £375,0000, just a year after moving to West Ham for £425,000. Midfielder, Ally Pickering has joined from Southampton as a makeweight in a deal that saw goalkeeper, Ulrich Rame, move the other way. The Saints also stumped up £2.3 million for Rame.

Also leaving Brammall Lane are Alex Hurst (released), Peter Duffield (Blackburn, £110,000), Tom Cowan (Motherwell, £115,000), and Dave Walton (Charlton, £575,000). Sheff Utd have spent just over £7 million, and recouped just over £3 million.

I think Wednesday have made a couple of great signings. Rob Lee struggled at Arsenal, but he's a quality player and it's hard to go wrong at £575,000. Andy Hinchcliffe is a quality left-back, and he arrives from Everton for £475,000. Young centre-back, Ady Williams, has been working his way up over the past few seasons, and he'll finally get his shot at Division One football. He joins for £825,000 from Coventry. Simon Barker is a solid midfielder, and he arrives from Wimbledon for £575,000. Teenage midfielder, Martin Newall, looks to have a lot of quality - he has been loaned from Man City, and it's hard to see why City can't use him at the moment if Wednesday can.

Steve McCall has retired from playing and become a scout at Liverpool. Gordon Watson struggled to get a game for Wednesday last season, so his £1.3 million move to Nottingham Forest is quite baffling. Niclas Nyhlen was a bit of a flop at Hillsborough, and he has been moved onto CSKA Moscow for £425,000. The Owls have spent £2.45 million, and brought in £1.79 million.

Southampton have invested in their squad quite substantially. £2.3 million, plus Ally Pickering, is quite a big fee for goalkeeper, Ulrich Rame, from Sheffield United. Young Saudi international goalkeeper, Mohamed Al-Deayea, has joined on a free transfer, and he looks a decent player. Chris Marsden joins from Everton for £1.3 million. Serbian international defender, Goran Dorovic, was unable to break into the Real Madrid team, but he should have an easier time at The Dell - he arrives for £1.8 million. On the other side of Madrid, young left-back, Francis Llacer, flopped badly at Atletico following a £3.4 million move from PSG, and he has joined Southampton for just £1.5 million. John Scales is a very good defender, and he looks a bargain at £600,000 from Wimbledon. Matjaz Florijancic is a Serbian international attacker, and he looks an exciting signing from Real Oviedo for £1.4 million. Columbian international right-back, Wilber Cabrera, has joined from Galatasaray for £825,000. Young midfielder, Jamie Redknapp, possesses a lot of quality, and he has joined on loan from Liverpool for the season.

Leaving The Dell are Kevin Pressman (Forest, £41,500), Tim Flowers (Arsenal, £525,000), Ally Pickering (Sheff Utd, swap), Jason Dodd (Newcastle, £675,000), and Mark Burke (Wimbledon, £90,000). With almost £10 million spent, and just £1.33 million coming in, it is quite a big outlay for Southampton.

Stoke have been very active in the transfer market, and I feel they have picked up some real bargains. Bryan Hughes is an exciting young player from Wrexham, and following his £34,500 arrival, he has been loaned to Birmingham. Right-back, Gary Charles, has a couple of England caps, and he arrives from Celtic for a bargain £210,000. Another right-back - youngster, Darren Bazeley - has moved from Watford for £475,000. Italian midfielder, Marco Giandebiaggi, arrives from Cremonese for £1.2 million. Chris Jacskson is a promising young striker who has been bought from Barnsley for £275,000. Winger, Adrian Doherty, is still only 21 years old, and if he can fulfil his potential, his £1 million move from Man Utd will be a bargain. Speaking of bargains, Paul Rideout's career stagnated at Chelsea, but he's only 29 and if he can recapture the form he showed earlier in his career, the £145,000 Stoke have spent for him is nothing. Also arriving from Chelsea is a young centre-back with a lot of potential - Ian Pearce cost £800,000. The biggest single transfer fee Stoke have spent this summer is £1.4 million on 20 year old left-back Michael Gray, and in my opinion they have got themselves one hell of a player. Centre-back, Isidro Villanova, looks another bargain at £180,000 from Bundesliga club Bayer Leverkusen. Midfielder, Eddie McGoldrick, has 33 caps for Ireland, and he has been poached from relegated Crystal Palace for £235,000. Young South African international goalkeeper, Brian Baloyi, has been signed from Boavista for £875,000. Stoke have also utilised the loan market to bolster their squad - arriving on a temporary basis are Mario Cesar (Forest), Ray McKinnon (Aberdeen), and Phil King (Sheff Wed).

Leaving Stoke are Alan Pardew (released), Ronnie Sinclair (Airdrie, £43,500), Ian Scott (Burnley, £62,000), Vince Overson (released), Ian Cranson (released), Mick Kennedy (Cambridge, free), Paul Dalton (Reading, free), and Andy Barlow (Millwall, £89,000). With £7.15 million spent, and just £234,000 recouped, Stoke have very much cleared out some of the old guard and upgraded their squad as they attempt to establish themselves in Division One.

On their way up, Sunderland have passed Wimbledon going the other way and have poached striking duo Shaun Goater (£375,000) and Steve Bull (£1.3 million) from them. Former Wimbledon midfielder, Ceri Hughes, has ended his Q.P.R. nightmare by moving to Sunderland for £700,000. Lee Carsley looks to be a young midfielder with a tremendous future - he has been signed from Derby for £825,000. Sean Gregan is another youngster with potential, and he has arrived from Darlington for £190,000. Jimmy Boyle is a versatile wide player, and he signs from Millwall for £205,000. On the goalkeeper front, Dean Kiely has joined from Everton for £700,000, and he will be backed up by Perry Suckling who arrives from Crystal Palace for £40,000. On the loan front, Jason Wilcox has joined from us, and Gary Breen arrives from Chelsea.

Michael Gray's £1.4 million move to Stoke is a big blow to The Black Cats. John Byrne has joined Bastia for just £5,000. Anth Smith has joined Barnsley after being released. Goalkeeper Maik Taylor has joined £725,000. With Dean Keily joining for less than that, that looks like a smart piece of business to me. 16 year old striker, Richard Cresswell, was only signed last year, and his £150,000 move to Brentford seems a little strange. Sunderland have spent £4.45 million, and brought in £2.28 million.

Swindon have been very active. With Dean Holdsworth doing well at Man City, his twin brother David will now get his crack at top flight football as he arrives at Swindon from Watford for £245,000. Joining him is Jason Drysdale for £450,000. Experienced midfielder, Paul Birch, arrives from Wolves for £195,000. Another Wolves midfielder moving to Swindon is Paul Cook for £475,000. Danny Sonner steps up from Third Division Burnley for £120,000. Striker, Davide Pellegrini, moves from Italian side, Ascoli, for £1.1 million. Pellegrini struggled for goals last season as Ascoli were relegated to Serie B. Young striker, Tommy Mooney, moves from West Brom for £210,000. I think 21 year old Tunisian international midfielder, Riadh Bouazizi, has the potential to be a fine signing. He's fresh off four World Cup appearances, and arrives for £650,000 from Dinamo Bucharest. The versatile Mike Marsh has struggled to establish himself at Anfield, and he joins for £350,000. David Hopkin has proven himself to be a quality player over the past couple of seasons for Chelsea and Crystal Palace, but he needs to settle down at one club for a prolonged period of time. £2.2 million is quite a hefty fee for Hopkin. On the loan front, Tomasz Hajto joins from Celtic, and teenage striker, Diego Tristan, has joined from Arsenal.

Leaving Swindon are Dave Mitchell (Sion, £66,000), Simon Milton (released), Martin Ling (Hibs, £325,000), and Tom Jones (Lincoln, £14,250). Swindon have spent just under £6 million, while recouping just over half a million.

Spurs biggest signing is striker, Giorgio Bresciani, from Torino for £3.2 million. Another striker joining is experienced Scottish target man, Alan McInally, from Bayern Munich for £650,000. Left-back, David Unsworth, has a lot of potential, and he looks a great signing from Everton for £800,000. Also arriving from Everton is right-back, Des Lyttle. His £2.3 million looks pretty overpriced to me. Midfielder, Vinny Samways, returns to White Hart Lane after just one season at Manchester United. His £650,000 is a lot less than the £1.1 million Man Utd paid for him. Finnish international goalkeeper, Kari Laukkanen, looks a snip at £120,000. Teenge midfielder, Phil Stamp, had his breakthrough year at Middlesbrough last season, and £600,000 looks a great deal for Spurs. French international defender, Alain Roche, arrives from Auxerre for £2.9 million, another hefty outlay. Teenage defender, Tony Chapman, has been signed from Barnsley for £275,000, and loaned to Leyton Orient. Once capped Brazilian defender, Paul Pereira, struggled for game time at Real Madrid last season, so he joins Spurs for £950,000, seeking first team football.

Spurs have lost a couple of big players. £4.9 million from Roma was too much to turn down for Brazilian striker, Mario Jardel. Fabrizio Ravenelli is a curious case - having arrived at White Hart Lane two years ago for £3.1 million, he was excellent for Spurs, so it's hard to understand why he has been allowed to move to Marseille for just £1.5 million. Right-back, Michele Serena, was the assist king of the First Division last season, providing 23 in all. His £1.9 million move to Sevilla is another cut-price deal, and is a big loss on the £3.8 million Spurs spent on him two years ago. Striker, John Hendry, has joined Blackburn for £165,000. Billy Dodds struggled for game time at Spurs, despite having an excellent goals to games ratio, and he has moved back to his native Scotland by joining Aberdeen for £800,000. The only way some of these outgoings make sense is if Spurs need the money, but if that was the case, would they have spent £12.44 million in comparison to the £9.26 million they received? I think they begin this season with a  weaker team than they ended last season with.

WEST HAM UNITED:

West Ham's biggest signing is the £2.9 million they have spent on Czech international winger, Radoslav Latal, from Fiorentina. Latal was excellent in Serie B last season, scoring 13 goals and providing 11 assists. £2.3 million is quite  a big fee for young striker, Eric Antwi, from Arsenal, but I personally feel Antwi has the potential to be a top player. Paul Furlong will be aiming to kickstart his career following a disappointing spell at Crystal Palace. Furlong arrives for £450,0000. Irish international left-back, Terry Phelan, is  solid player, and his £800,000 acquisition from Wimbledon looks like  a good move. Franch striker, Mickael Madar, struggled in La Liga for Deportivo last season, so his £2 million move seems like a risk. Young attacker, Andy McLaren, arrives from Dundee United for £1.7 million.

Leaving The Hammers are Eloy Perez to Bursaspor for £250,000. Perez only arrived last year for £650,000 from Espanyol, and was quite a flop. The long-serving George Parris has moved to Coventry for £115,000. Striker, Jose Cardozo, is quite a loss for West Ham, as he moves to Napoli for £1.4 million. Goalkeeper, Simon Tracey, has rejoined Sheffield United for £375,000. Simon Livett has moved to Barnsley for £15,500. West Ham have spent £10.15 million, while recouping £2.15 million, so quite a big outlay for the FA Cup holders.

JULY 1994:

France have won the World Cup, thanks to a hat-trick in the final by our former forward, Eric Cantona:

England were eliminated by Paraguay in the second round, and as a result, manager Graham Taylor has been sacked and replaced by Howard Wilkinson:

Man City have yet to replace Wilkinson. The U19 European Championships also took place this summer, and they were won by Norway, with our own Eirik Bakke scoring in the final:

My Under 18s coach, Mike Carr, has been appointed manager of Watford. Relegated clubs, Everton and Wimbledon, have appointed new managers:

I'd like to say everyone is fit and raring to go for the season, but seemingly as always we have a few injury concerns. Tony Dorigo missed most of pre-season with a twisted ankle, so even though he's over it now he is still a little bit behind his peers in terms of match sharpness. Olivier Dacourt will miss the first few weeks with a twisted knee. Our captain, Gary McAllister, will also miss the first few weeks with a back strain. In good news, David Batty and Gordon Strachan are back after lengthy lay-offs.

Watch our pre-season highlights:

Here's our squad depth:

Goalkeepers - Nigel Martyn, Michel Preud'homme

Right-Backs - Gary Kelly, Mel Sterland, Jon Newsome

Left-Backs - Tony Dorigo, Kevin Sharp, Gary Speed, Ian Harte

Centre-Backs - Lucas Radebe, Martin Keown, David Wetherall, Jon Newsome, Alfie Haaland, Rio Ferdinand, Mark Jackson

Defensive-Midfielders - David Batty, Olivier Dacourt, Alfie Haaland, Gary Speed, Lucas Radebe, Mark Jackson

Central-Midfielders - Gary McAllister, Gary Speed, Gordon Strachan, John Sheridan, David Batty, Lee Bowyer, Olivier Dacourt, Alfie Haaland, Eirik Bakke, Jason Blunt

Right-Midfielders - Gordon Strachan, Alessandro Del Piero, Lee Bowyer, Eirik Bakke, Andy Gray

Left-Midfielders - Gary Speed, Rivaldo, Alessandro Del Piero, Thierry Henry

Attacking Midfielders - Rivaldo, Alessandro Del Piero, Noel Whelan, Eirik Bakke

Forwards - Tony Yeboah, Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink, Rod Wallace, Noel Whelan, Jamie Forrester, Mark Viduka, Thierry Henry, Rivaldo, Alessandro Del Piero, Andy Gray

Here's how August looks for us:

aug.thumb.png.77eb9862b0ddf362ad66fca5e0f5dc37.png

We start with two games against West Ham, the first of which is for the Charity Shield. A trip to Anfield is a tough first away fixture of the season.
