What tactic are you using Spike? I am ten games into the first season but still struggling. Haven't won since three games (1-2 to Spurs, 0-1 Chelsea, 1-1 ManU) and hope to turn things around in the following games against West Ham and Stoke.

I use the all out attack tactic from this thread & occassionally the shut up shop tactic to close out games.

http://community.sigames.com/showthread.php?t=68241

what transfer budget do you start with on the new patch??

Around £5m from memory, the board won't usually increase this when you ask.

But they do normally give you a slightly higher wage budget if you ask, which you can then do a Budget Adjustment.

You can also bring in a fair bit in transfer revenue by getting rid of some deadwood (see my post a few up).

Thanks, are you on patch 930? Does the tactic work with it?

Yes I am on 9.3.0 & it has worked with every other team i've played as so far.

Only just started with Villa though so will have to wait & see

I've got a dilemma now. Paloschi who is my 4th choice striker has been the leading scorer & highest rated player (8.17) through pre-season.

2nd season I won the league by 2 points over chelsea, who I chased all season and it went down to the last game of the season, they had to go to man city and either win or draw and I had to beat portsmouth well man city did chelsea 2-0 and I beat portsmouth 3-0. Then I won the carling cup over wigan 5-0 and then most exciting of all I won the champions league 3-0 over roma, had job offers from Fiorentina and Juventus as well. oh yeah and david beckham won footballer of the year scoring 19 and 27 assists.

Halfway through the 1st season and I am really struggling. Currently sitting in 11th place (6-4-9) I simply cannot find a consistent tactic. My offense is good but I am lacking goals like no tomorrow. With the winter transfer windows starting I need a few more players mainly a good, creative attacking midfielder to play behind my lone striker. I have £12m to spend but have an £6.25m offer for Heskey accepted so my budget will be around £18m. Any suggestions? Would prefer a british player if possible.

not been on my Villa save in a while and decided to have a browse on it and I had seemed to forgot, after recieving a lot of money for CL final, FA final and league etc., that I had managed to fork out enough money for Benzema and a part Exchange for Adebayor with Pogrebnyak going to Arsenal. I'm currently top of the league and only 5 points ahead of Liverpool. I have a 5th round replay with Swansea in the FA cup after my reserves scraped a draw at home and i'm leading AEK Athens 3-1 in CL 1st knockout round.

Just started a Villa game on the 9.3.0 patch.

Transfers Out

Released a total of 27 players on free contracts as I felt that they will have no affect on current or future squads (and it cuts down the wage bill a tad).

Nigel Reo-Coker - £6,500,000 - Sunderland

Ciaran Clark - £675,000 - Cardiff

Christopher Herd - £60,000 - Carlisle

Elliott Parish - £55,000 - Plymouth

David Bevan - £14,000 - Preston

Transfers In

David Beckham - £5,500,000 - L.A. Galaxy

Oscar Ustari - £5,500,000 - Getafe

Georginio Wijnaldum - £2,500,000 - Feyenoord

Miguel Torres - £2,000,000 - Real Madrid

Emiliano Insúa - £2,200,000 - Liverpool (6mth Loan)

Pre-Season Friendlies

Set up 3 friendlies to correspond with my Euro-Vase match with Tavria

13/07/08

Friendly

Stoke 1 - 4 Aston Villa

T. Soares - J. Carew (3), S. Diao (OG)

R. Shawcross (INJ)

A. Griffin (Y)

Man of the Match - John Carew (9.3)

Laursen & Cuéllar both picked up minor injuries but the standout was definitely John Carew & his hatrick.

Resulting in him gaining a 9.3 rating, it was an excellent start to the pre-season campaign.

19/07/08

Euro-Vase Round 3 Leg 1

Aston Villa 4 - 2 Tavria

Agbonlahor, L.Young, A.Young, Heskey - Gigiadze (2)

Hajduczek (Y)

Man of the Match - Gigiadze (8.4)

We done well in attack but we had trouble getting back to cover allowing Gigiadze in with 2 easy opportunites.

L. Young had an excellect game coming up from deep to score a goal of his own and setting on up for Heskey.

22/07/08

Friendly

Walsall 0 - 11 Aston Villa

Milner (3), A.Young (2), Carew (2), Heskey (2), Agbonlahor, Reo-Coker

Man of the Match - James Milner (9.4)

26/07/08

Euro-Vase Round 3 Leg 2

Tavria 1 - 1 Aston Villa

Cherednichenko - Agbonlahor

Man of the Match - Cherednichenko (7.9)

Could have, & possibly, should have done alot better in this match.

We had a few opportunities that went astray but we managed to pull back from the early goal to tie the match.

31/07/08

Friendly

Abbey Hey 0 - 12 Aston Villa

Carew (4), Agbonlahor (3), Milner (2), Barry, Beckham, A.Young

Man of the Match - John Carew (9.7)

Report

So far, I think we are comfortable with we are within the squad.

Everyone seems to know thier places and are doing thier jobs well.

Obviously the friendlies against Abbey Hey & Walsall were to assist the squad in match fitness

but it's nice for the guys to be able to have shooting practice also.

We could have performed better in Europe but we still got through to the Euro Cup, where we have drawn Mogren.

The highlight was definitely the 4-1 win over fellow Premiership club, Stoke.

This has put us in a good mood heading into the upcoming matches against Portsmouth & Middlesbrough.

Will update again after August... To be Continued

so just about to start my third season in charge of the might (they are now) villa and mark hughes is sacked as manager of man city well i ignored it for awhile and then out of the blue they came in for me with 150m to spend and a great side built previously by hughes I couldnt turn it down so Ive jumped ship to man city.

thanks for the memories aston villa off to spend the arabs riches with citeh

With a bulk of the squad set in stone, there was little to do in the August transfer window.

I only made one offer, signing Stephen Appiah on a free transfer.

After recovering from a bad viral infection, he managed to scrape through the medical test.,

Still being unfit for football, he may not be making his first appearance until September.

14/08/08

Euro Cup 2nd Qualifying Round Leg 1

Mogren 0 - 3 Aston Villa

Laursen, A.Young, Carew

Cuellar, Beckham (Y)

Zejnilovic (INJ) - Laursen (INJ)

Man of the Match - Ashley Young (8.0)

Good start to the Euro Cup with a 3-0 away win...

Downside: We have lost Martin Laursen for the remainder of August with a broken jaw &

Luke Young will miss the first Premiership match due to a damaged heel picked up in the match.

We have 3 days to travel back to England and prepare for the opener against Portsmouth,

but i feel the professionalism of the squad will shine through on Matchday.

17/08/08

Premiership

Portsmouth 3 - 2 Aston Villa

Crouch, Kranjcar, Gekas - Agbonlahor, Carew

Traore (INJ)

Man of the Match - Peter Crouch (7.7)

Not the start we wanted to the season, but it's early days yet.

There was really only one good thing I picked up in this match &

that was the fact that we can score goals at away venues.

The squad played reasonably well but I'm going to put this loss down to

the amount of changes made pre-season (Tactical & Players)

23/08/08

Premiership

Middlesbrough 3 - 2 Aston Villa

Alves (3) - Agbonlahor, Carew

A.Young (INJ)

Man of the Match - Alfonso Alves (9.1)

The team played alot better this time round, unfortunately they couldn't finish.

Having most of the possession and the most shots we were unfortunate not to take any points away from this.

Ashely Young picked up an injury during the match.

The physio believes he'll be out for upto 4 weeks with strained ankle ligaments.

28/08/08

Euro Cup 2 Qualifying Round Leg 2

Aston Villa 5(8) - 0(0) Mogren

Beckham, Carew, Cuellar, Barry, Torres

L.Young, Milner, Agbonlahor(Y) - Gojkovic(Y)

Man of the Match - David Beckham (8.4)

Superb performance in front of an eager home crowd.

After travelling to see the past few matches,

the Villans faithful were pleased to see the team come home with a dominant win.

We have drawn Slovan Liberac of the Czech Republic in the Euro Cup First Round.

And have unfortunately drawn Man Utd in the League Cup Third Round.

31/08/08

Premiership

Aston Villa 3 - 2 Newcastle

Beckham, Heskey, Coloccini(OG) - Guthrie, Jonas

Agbonlahor (INJ)

Curtis Davies (Y) - Enrique, Jonas, Guthrie, Nolan(Y), Coloccini ®

Man of the Match - David Beckham (8.1)

Hard fought match and I'm very happy to pick up 3 points at home.

After the early goal by Beckham, Newcastle responded swiftly picking up 2 before the half was out.

Soon after the restart, a looping cross from L.Young was deflected off of Coloccini's head into his own goal.

Heskey shortly followed up with a goal of his own after Coloccini's Red Card.

Newcastle played a very physical match today and we were professional enough to stay on top of it.

League Table

1. Liverpool - 9

2. Chelsea - 9

3. Wigan - 7

4. Arsenal - 6

5. West Brom - 6

12. Aston Villa - 3

August Round-Up

Picking up only 3 out of 9 points in the Premiership, we have left alot to be desired.

We have had no trouble scoring goals, 15 for 8 against in the 5 competitive matches this past month.

David Beckham has definitely been the stand out player this month, averaging 7.72 in August.

He has alsopicked up 2 Man of the Match Awards & 2 goals (1 from a Beckham classic Freekick).

We have so far dominated our opponents in Europe & hope to continue that form going into the First round.

Oscar Ustari will be looking to make his debut this month,

as will Stephen Appiah & Steve Sidwell (both competing for a back up spot to Barry & Beckham).

Overall: A little disappointed with the start so far but can see improvement is just around the corner.

With the first 2 weeks of September being set aside for Internationals

We have had alot of time to work out some flaws in the tactics.

The players have seemed to have taken to it well and hopefully it will show in game.

Stephen Appiah, Martin Laursen have fully recovered from thier injuries in time for the Wigan match.

13/09/08

Premiership

Aston Villa 4 - 2 Wigan

Beckham (2), Carew, Barry - Robson (2)

Bratu (INJ)

Insua (Y) - Bramble, Scharner(Y)

Man of the Match - David Beckham (8.9)

I was unsure of how well the boys would perform after 2 weeks out of competition,

but they seemed to have pulled it together well.

So far the new tactics have worked but there still appear to be gaps appearing in the backline.

Hopefully the next few games will narrow down the fault.

David Beckham still showing why he was the best buy of the summer transfers,

with another Man of the Match performance rated at 8.9.

18/08/08

Euro Cup First Round Leg 1

Slovan Liberac 2 - 4 Aston Villa

Dort, Kobr - Agbonlahor (2) Cuellar, Petrov

Blazek (INJ)

Kobr (Y) - Beckham, Barry (Y)

Man of the Match - Gabriel Agbonlahor (8.6)

Goals Galore Once Again!!! but alas the opposition are still finding space.

I have a feeling it's coming down the left side through Insua

but I'll find out or sure if it's him against Liverpool in 3 days.

Great performance by Agbonlahor and support from Milner & Wijnaldum on the wings.

Ashley Young has recovered from his injury but he may only start from the bench.

21/09/08

Premiership

Liverpool 2 - 2 Aston Villa

Babel, Torres - Agbonlahor (2)

Milner (INJ)

Torres (Y)

Man of the Match - Gabriel Agbonlahor (8.4)

What a great match to watch... We may have only picked up 1 point,

but it's 1 point from Anfield and we were 2-0 at halftime.

2 early goals dropped the boys morales but my pep-talk at halftime ignited action.

Agbonlahor scored to great goals within 10 minutes of each other.

With constant attacking towards the end, we were unlucky not to pick up the win.

James Milner has been diagnosed with strained knee ligaments,

putting him out for between 7-8 weeks. Not too much of a problem with the return Ashley Young

24/09/08

League Cup Round 3

Manchester United 2 - 3 Aston Villa

Tevez (2) - Carew, Agbonlahor, Beckham

Evans (Y) - Laursen (Y)

Man of the Match - Carlos Tevez (8.3)

Woohoo!!! After playing Liverpool 3 days ago...

I didn't expect a performance like this.. especially at Old Trafford

Going 2 nil down after 17 minutes, it wasn't looking good,

but Carew managed to pull one back before the halftime whistle.

10 minutes into the 2nd half, Agbonlahor found some space during the corner & headed it home.

At this time, I was preparing to go into a replay match at home

until an in-box error by Giggs set up Beckham with the winning penalty in extra-time.

We have been drawn away to Coventry in the Fourth Round

27/08/09

Premiership

Aston Villa 1 - 2 Fulham

Carew - Johnson, Laursen (OG)

Wijnaldum (INJ)

Kallio (Y)

Man of the Match - Andy Johnson (7.5)

Kind of disappointed with the boys in this match but with 2 big matches in the same week,

exhaustion was bound to come into play.

Nobody ever really got started this afternoon, and we almost pulled away with a tie,

until Laursen unfortunately deflected the ball into his own goal in the 90th minute.

I'll give the team a couple of days rest before the Euro Cup match against Slovan Libuerec.

September Report

Picked up 4 points out of 9 in the Premiership leaving us in 12th spot.

The big win away to Man Utd in the League Cup has put the squad in a great mood.

Unfortunately we couldn't continue the form into the Fulham match, losing 2-1 at home.

Gabriel Agbonlahor was the stand out player this month with an average rating of 7.84.

He also picked up the Young Player of the Month ahead of Spurs' Aaron Lennon

David Beckham also kept up his appearances with a rating of 7.56 for the month.

League Table

1. Liverpool - 13

2. Arsenal - 13

3. Chelsea - 12

4. Man Utd - 12

5. Wigan - 10

12. Aston Villa - 7

Top Scorers

1. Alfonso Alves (MID) - 5

2. John Carew (AV) - 4

3. Gabriel Agbonlahor (AV) - 4

4. Emmanuel Adebayor (ARS) - 3

5. Fernando Torres (LIV) - 3

Can Aston Villa move up the table?

Can they continue their good cup run into the Euro Cup Group Phase?

Will Coventry prove to be thier down-fall?

Stay tuned... Same SI thread, Same SI Forums.

I'm getting constant offers from Lyon for Agbonlahor.. It's now up to £10,000,000.

Personally I would like to keep him, & he has stated that he'd like to talk to the club, but

If I did sell him, it'll put my Transfer budget up to around £23,000,000.

What I want to know is... How much effort will I have to put in to sign a quality Striker for a decent amount to fill his spot?

could you get vagner love for that?? what about hulk?? always been excellent in my games (never bought him though) when playing for average teams i.e. worse than aston villa

maybe even guiseppi rossi.....

i found that even with agbonlahor in intense shooting training his shooting still fell. i couldn't even sell him in the end and had to let him go on a free. he is now backup at west ham.

that being said i did still get some good years out of him

you could try a cheeky bid for adriano from inter - when i took over as villa boss (2nd season) i got him for 3 million

Id say £10m is quite good for agbonlahor, you can do better than him with that money

I just turned down another offer of £11,500,000 from Lyon (2mil up front).

Chelsea, Valencia, Sevilla, Liverpool & Tottenham are all interested.

Hopefully if he keeps form up, I'll get another offer in and I may really consider it.

Especially if there is an outside chance of getting Adriano:P

UPDATE!!!!

I just sold Agbonlahor to Chelsea for £15,000,000... Inter are asking for £24,000,000 for Adriano... Hoping I can get it down to between £10-20,000,000 before making an offer.

He's only made 5 appearances this season... Fingers crossed.

If you're playing 6.0.3 then adriano is rubbish. and anything before that he can usually be picked up for under 5m in season 3 as he dosnt play.

just finished my first season and am ecstatic with my acievements.

I managed to win enough games to finish in 12th place... OH YEAHHH!!!

I'm surprised I managed to keep my job to be honest...

Oh well... there's always next season

That could be true... I'm a Chelsea fan, and i try to play with all thier players without selling but its hard

but now at aston villa, i never try to buy any of thier players...

although the brought Gabby for 15 mil. he chose them over liverpool & tottenham.

I even sold Steve Sidwell. so I'm not really biased towards chelsea at all :p

And this is actually my first complete season in England... I'm so proud

Just started my first season with villa and have made some good signings.

Players in:

Vagner Love 15.5m

Moutinho 10m

Zhirkov 14m

Artem Milevshkyi 10m

Players out

Carew 5.25m

Harewood 4.5m

Barry 29m

Knight 3.3m

I am still looking for some faster CB as in my tactic I really need fast CB, laursen is just to slow for my taste but it kinda hard to drop him as in 12 apps he has 11 goals in all comp.

Have had a good start in the league after 6 games I have won 4 1 draw 1 lost.

Just beat Chelsea away in a thriller 4-3. I was getting hammered most of the game :p

3rd in the league at the moment :)

He looks pretty good and I just looked for him in my game and I didnt find him though

Board just handed my extra 20m so I am happy about that

So I have signed Dario srna for 12m he will come in jan so thats good.

So after 12 games in the league my record is 8-3-1 and 2nd in the league

Lost to wigan at home 2-1 :( was really unhappy with that and draw against sunderland at HOME 0-0 pretty poor but did get Reo Coker sent off in that game.

West Ham away 2-2 and Man city away 1-1 are the other games I drew.

Oh and just sold Sidwell for 5m as he was unhappy.

Had a bid for laursen 8.25m from lyon not sure what I am going to do there.

EDIT:

Fazio just agreed to join me for 19m

Link to post

Yessir I can do that

zvvkfa.jpg

I decided to pull the arrow off Beckham and just instruct him to make forward runs

As you can see... I haven't been to drastic in my changes to the first team in transfers

And remember I came 12th this season

Do you use this tatic for home and away??

Just finished Jan and damn it that month was crazy.

I have had offers for :

Reo-Coker 10m and i rejected it (liverpool)

Ashley Young 12m x3 times and I rejected them (chelsea,Liverpool,Madrid)

Laursen 10m i rejected it lyon also offered 9m which I rejected also

Zhirkov 28m from barcelona which i reject because he has been fantastic 34 games 7goals 30 asts.

Moutinho 25m I accepted but he refused to the contract (Arsenal)

Carlos Cuellar 11.75m from Liverpool accepted pretty happy with that deal.

Curtis Davies 9m I wanted 15m but the withdrew the offer (milan).

And I bought Zapata from Udinese for 17.5m

I also was on a 30 match unbeaten streak which ended in the end of jan when I was hammered away by Tottenham 3-0.

And I am through to the finals of the league cup after winning Portsmouth in overtime.

Record in the league now is after 23 games 14-7-2 49pts goals scored 52 goals against 28

and I have 2 games in hand. 3rd in the league now with Arsenal on top with 60 pts after 25games.

I have conceded way to many goals but hopefully my 3 new defenders (Srna, fazio and Zapata) can help stop that leak.

chrisy: This is my general overall formation..

I'll change them depending on sporting odds. If I'm the uderdogs.. I'll just drop my wings back but keep the arrow forward.

If I'm not expected to get anything out of the game (i.e against the 'Big 4') then I'll have eith both MC with an arrow back or drop one into the DM position.

armann99: You might need brazil loaded for him. I get alot of offers for my players too...Ashley Young, James Milner, Gareth Barry etc etc but I did accept one offer... David Beckham has rejoined Real Madrid for just under £10 millie.

Your league run looks pretty good. Good luck for run home.

hitemfrank: Those are some exceptional young keepers you have there. I'll be happy with just the one of them.

The skin I'm using is Black-In09 you can get it here >> DOWNLOAD™

I'm halfway through my pre-season preparations and am having a bit of trouble with a couple of players.

Carlos Cuellar & James Milner are both looking to move onto other clubs after I rejected offers for them.

I consider these 2 players as first team definites (not quite key players) and don't want to let them go.

I usually will always allow a player to speak to the offering club if they want to... but not this time round.

This is going to be a fun next couple of weeks.
