Looking at a good desktop to play FM on and internet for the family.

Can buy from anywhere and with or without monitor.

I would prefer a OS included yes.

Hi Guys, baby on the way and looking at a cheaper option than the macbook air, which I plan on selling.

Ideally something very portable 13" max (as i currently have the smallest macbook air)

Its primary use will be for Football Manager and I would like something that can deal with 3D easily and dealing with many leagues/nations simultaneously, whilst browsing the net and dealing with spreadsheets 

Was thinking of something around £750.00

Would appreciate and be interested in any advice or help

Hi, was wondering if anyone could recommend a laptop hopefully in the £350 to £400 range I don't use 3D at all and run usually top 3 or 4 divisions from two countries. I know nothing about laptops at all so any advice on whether this is realistic or what would be any good would be appreciated. Thanks

I am going to buy an new laptop and probably it'll be the HP Spectre x360 with the following specs:

 

  • Intel Core i5-6200U 2.30 GHz with Turbo Boost Technology up to 2.08 GHz
  • Intel HD Graphics 520 with shared graphics memory
  • 8 GB RAM 

I don't play any other game than Football Manager. It will be running well? And is going to be a proble in my laptop running FM?

PS. I dont load many leagues and I am playing with 3D Graphics.

Hi All,

Looking to buy a laptop for about £250 for FM2017 coming out. I know £250 might be a tough ask but any help would be appreciated. Looking at 8GB Ram minimum and don't overly need 3D graphics as I only play on commentary only.  Would look to be running 4 or 5 countries with all leagues on a large dataset.

Hi All,

I'm thinking of buying a new laptop for FM17, the reason I say thinking is because the other half will no doubt have better ideas. 

At the moment I have an Asus G750 with i7 4700hq, 16GB of Kingston HyperX 2133mhz DDR3L ram, 256GB Samsung PRO SSD and 2TB HDD. Now I mainly only use the laptop for FM and the odd game of Total War, yip I know complete overkill but I barely spend my money on anything else so why not.

My plan is to upgrade to the MSI GT72S 6QE(Dominator Pro G), which has the i7 6820hk CPU, 32GB DDR4 ram, 512 SSD and 1TB HDD. 

I know a bit about CPU's etc. but want to know whether or not with this upgrade I'd see any noticeable difference in terms of game speed. I think the 4ghz overclock on the 6820HK is only on 1 core is that best for FM or does it need better speeds on multiple cores? Hopefully that made sense.

Let me know what you guys think.

The problem with 13" laptops will always be the compromise between price, performance, and build quality...

 

So it really does depend on which you want to compromise on ... it's the old 'pick two and forget the other' thing....

 

Fairly recently, I was using one of these : http://www.dell.com/uk/p/inspiron-13-5368-2-in-1-laptop/pd?oc=cn53603&model_id=inspiron-13-5368-2-in-1-laptop  and was impressed by it.. it's rare to find a quality i7 cpu in a 13incher that cheap, and the build quality and performance was great... it's a 2 in 1 as well which means portability isn't an issue. It has tons of Ram, a decent 256gb SDD, and the onboard graphics will handle fm fine... in terms of FM performance, it will easily run the 6-8 leagues you want and double that if you want it too...

The cooling is never great on 13" laptops but the dell, I found, was great.

I haven't found much better in the 13" laptops tbh ... consider going up to 14" though and your choices open up a bit.

Well generally speaking the actual difference will be a little more room to add a dedicated graphics card etc ... but I was just making the point that having a bit of wiggle room somewhere, whether it's price, size etc can make a world of difference with laptops so it's important to know what you definitely need to 100% have and what you can move on a bit if needed..

 

We can recommend laptops all day, there are dozens out there that would fit your specs..

 

Essentially speaking, it's always best to look yourself too....  Know exactly what you need and go from there.

I always look at the cpu first, especially for fm, it's essential, and then you can work from there with your budget.

The 6820hk is certainly an upgrade on your current one, but whether or not it will be worth it for fm is subjective really... it's probably about 20% faster in general terms to be honest, but whether that is true for fm is hard to judge.

 

Personally, I wouldn't bother unless money isn't an issue at all for you as frankly your 4700hq is pretty damn fast already.

So after my pc dying in the past few days (may it rest in peace) i'm in need of a new build. are pcspecialist still the way to go or is there another website i should be looking at? i'm not buying today more doing the research stage at the minute and wondering if they are still the most reliable to start with.

After a few years away from the game due to personal reasons, i am looking to buy FM17, in order to do so i will need to get a new laptop however.

I want this to be a career game, managing my way up the leagues so am going to need a machine fit for purpose which isn't going to slow down as the seasons add up.

I don't play with the pitch/replays turned on so that should help, but i would like to run a large database and a number of leagues of possible

Definite Leagues

England (National League North & South)

Span (Top division)

Italy ( Top division)

Germany (Top division)

 

Nice to Haves

France (Top Division)

Portugal (Top Division)

Belgium (Top Division)

Holland (Top Division)

 

Any recommendations would be greatly received as i'm not particularly clued up on these matters, ideally i'd like to spend no more than £350 is this possible, or would i need to cut down on the leagues to ensure performance from a cheaper machine?

Technophobe looking for help re laptop costing £300 - £350

 

 

I usually play the game mostly on commentary so I'm guessing a graphics card isn't that important for me.  I play with 8 European leagues and 3 S American leagues.  I'm guessing again that a good fast processor would be my biggest requirement.  Anyone know of something out there that would be suitable.  Suggestions are welcome.

Thanks Welshace confirmed what I'd thought, probably a better idea to hold out at least another year and hopefully by then another better CPU is available making the differences much more noticible

My current laptop is a HP Envy 17" with a 2.2GHz i7 processor and 12GB of RAM. 

The MacBook Pro I'm looking at is the 13" with retina display, 2.9GHz i5 processor and 16GB of RAM. 

All I really do on the laptop is uni work on Microsoft Office, moderate internet browsing and of course plentiful FM playing!

So I'm wondering whether the MacBook I've described would be suitable for FM, and if anyone has any experience with one I'd love to hear about it? Also any advice on how FM plays on 13" as the smallest I've played at is 15" so far.

The alternative options are the 3.1GHz i7 processor and 8GB of RAM, or any combination of the processors/RAM mentioned. I've tried to understand the differences but I've got myself a bit confused now!

I play on a 13" early 2013 Retina Display Macbook Pro, 2.6ghz and 8gb RAM. Plays FM fine, i've got a pretty big database loaded and it's pretty quick. Only thing it does do is just pretty hot, so i installed a program where i can alter the fan speed and i just ramp it up for FM. 

Doesn't look too bad on the 13" screen. I can't say whether the writing is small or not because i'm so used to it now. Never ever had an issue with it even when i first started using it for FM though.

I've drifted away from FM over the last few years due to a young family and work but looking to get back playing. 

I'm looking for recommendations for a laptop for around £400, I'm not fussed about 3D or anything like that I used to play commentary and key highlights previously. Doubt I'll be playing any other games just a bit of XLS/word and the kids playing some online games. 

Any my advice or recommendations would be much appreciated.

What resolution do you play FM in on the 13" please? Wondering if it fully takes advantages of the retina display

I'm in the market for a new laptop myself - could probably afford around £850ish, but don't want to pay over the odds for something.

I'm pretty non technical minded, so could do with a bit of help if possible.

My current setup is this:  Acer Aspire E1-571, Intel® Core™ i7-3632QM Quad Core Processor, 15.6" HD Screen, Microsoft Windows 8 64-bit, 6GB DDR3 RAM, 500GB HDD, DVD Rewriter, Integrated Graphics, HDMI, NX.M09EK.037

It runs FM pretty well. Get 10/11 countries 25ish leagues running with no issues. The 3D is poor though, I can only play it on low settings and I'd quite like to play it higher.

Is the above the best option, or are there ready made laptops that get more bang for the buck? Cheers!

I'm getting a new laptop which ill use for uni work and FM. Ive got a budget of £350 and was wondering how this would perform?

HP Pavilion 15-aw065sa

  • Windows 10
  • AMD A9-9410 APU
  • RAM: 8 GB / Storage: 2 TB HDD
  • Up to 9.5 hours battery life

or would this laptop be better?

HP ENVY 15-ah150sa

  • Windows 10
  • AMD A10-8700P APU

  • Storage: 2 TB

 

I would also have a Microsoft package installed on their and would like around 4 nations loaded and about 10 leagues loaded.

I want to make sure i get a decent laptop as Ive never been able to get above 1/2 star performance rating on FM!!
