New Laptop/PC- Help Needed

What 2? 4gb I presume you mean RAM and 1TB I presume is hard drive. I5 is good enough, or so I've been told. There's plenty of good laptops throughout the thread take the best bits of each put them together and look if anything incorporates all of them. That's what I've done and went with pc specialist in the end.

the laptop im using now is my old laptop and it also is a dell inspiron N5030 and had no problems with it so i thought id try another one,

Went for a Dell with i7 processor, 17" screen, Nvidia 650m graphics, 8GB ram, and at least I felt I understood a bit more about what I was buying. Would this be decent at running a few Leagues on FM13?

On the description, it says the Laptop is more of a video editing machine, so that has put me off a little.

This would have no problem running a lot of countries and leagues. It's very high-end.

As to the amount - who knows it's anyones guess. But you could easily run about 10-15 countries (setting some to Background Only)

Do you know how loud/what the speakers are like on that laptop? I watch alot of dvd/blurays on my laptop, and my current laptop is pretty quiet, so im looking for one with decent speakers too. Also is the graphics card better on the £700 laptop?

Now, While the speakers in that are top class, the processor is slightly worse (dual core rather than quad core for example) .. and it's also a 15 inch rather than 17 inch screen.

Personally, I'd stick with Eugene's suggestion and just invest in top quality headphones or speakers... even £50 external speakers will be better than the best integrated ones in a laptop tbh.

Windows 8 is perfectly fine with FM i'm told. TBH it's just my own opinion, I'm just not a fan myself.. Supposedly, games are even better optimised on windows 8. So don't just take my word for it.

According to the Spec Sheet from Lenovo they're Integrated stereo speakers (2x1.5W)

Which is about 85-88dB.

You drop about 25dB per meter - so take it you're about arms length from laptop

- that's about 5.5dB

So you'd be looking at an audible 80-83dB for audio.

What are your current speakers wattage?

What do you think of the one I posted? I kinda have my heart set on that, everything about it stood out to me, apart from the processor.

But it's an Dell Alienware M17x, really nice design, great sound system/HD screen etc, and I'm guessing that with it being an Alienware it would still run most games smoothly.. especially FM13?

I've currently been using a AMD Turion II Ip40 Dual Core Processor over a year now, which has always seemed pretty quick to me.. but the laptop skin has cracked at one side due to the wieght of the screen, it constanly overheats and turns off, and I've had to use 2 new harddrives through the warranty, as I got the dreaded blue screen a couple of times.. and now to top it off my video adapter has died.. I can only get the laptop to start up in safemode (otherwise I just get a black screen just before the login screen loads)

So even the I-7 740qm would make a massive difference to me, and it looks a really solid/bulky design (compared to the thin hp laptop I have atm) So I don't mind it not being the very latest processor, as long as it can handle a few Leagues on a longterm save, and so long as the laptop lasts me 2/3 years.

But would you say it was worth paying £690 for, or would I be paying too much? I'd feel kinda stupid if I pay £690, then 1 year later I'd find it redundant.. when for £10 more I could get an almost similar laptop, but with the latest I-7 processor etc.

Yeah, I did some googling this morning and noticed the same theme.

Alot of people saying it's way over-priced, and maybe before Dell bought it out it was value for money, but now your just paying for the name etc.

All I can find out is they're Altec Lansing speakers - only one document gave a 2.0w for the speakers.

The sound won't be as good from the Lenovo given that detail.

im looking at some straight off the shelf laptops and have a budget of around £300-£400

obviously the possibilites are endless but i need a decent one thats going to be able to play fm for the next few years as the only reason im looking at a new laptop is the one i have now isnt playing fm13 properly

i dont watch matches in 3d but i like the major leagues loaded so im guessing ill need more processing power than graphics power

If your sure you won't watch games in 3D and aren't interested in games then I 'think' you don't need to worry about a dedicated graphics card.

If you don't want to use 3D match then you probably won't need a dedicated graphics card - keep in mind this may limit you in future releases - it may, that's like saying "pigs may fly", but nobody really knows what developments SI are going to make.

Just got me the above laptop with the i7-3840qm processor. Looking forward to getting it. Should have no issues running FM13 on this.

I found another laptop and was wondering if the jump from 4GB to 6GB memory and a Hard disk jump from 500 to 750 would make a difference?

Also is there a big difference between.....

Difference in 4gb RAM and 6gb RAM is negligible.

Hard Drive capacity won't make a difference either.

The i5 2450m is a 2nd generation processor

The i5 3210m is a 3rd gen processor

All this means is that the 3rd gen is a newer build - basically the difference in the 2 generations is that the newer generation has a slight performance advantage over the 2nd gen - along the value of about 5% extra performance. But they also consume less power - so you get a longer battery life.

The other difference is that the i3/i5/i7 processors all have graphics handling built right into the chip -

the i5 2450m has the designated Intel 3000 Graphics while the i5 3210m has the designated 4000 graphics.

Basically - the i5 3210m will consume less power - it has a slight performance enhancement - and a better integrated graphics hd 4000

Both the i5's listed have the same clock speed and same overclocking rate - but you will definitely have a better experience with the 3rd generation processor.
