awulfclark
It will work on Surface Pro, but don't expect anything amazing, as the game is not designed to be touch screen optimised, and last I heard, they have no plans to. But you can plug a mouse into the Surface Pro so it should be ok. I'm running FM on a Surface Pro 3 and it runs fine. The touchscreen works fine, quite often I find the Surface Pen actually works better than a mouse for anything that requires dragging--substitutions, tactics creation, that sort of thing. I find, though, the Surface heats up quite a lot running FM. I've got the version with the i7 processor, and I'm running ten countries/thirty leagues with a medium database in my current save without too many issues. My previous save I ran sixteen countries/45 leagues on a medium database and I think that just about maxed out the processing capabilities. If I ran FM for too long at a sitting the whole machine would actually shut down due to the heat, so I had to watch that, and progressing day to day was pretty slow. Surface Pro runs a full version of Windows therefore full FM can be run.
Smurf
Good to hear from a Surface pro user. It's not ideal to run FM on it, as you mention it overheats.

Bobbins71
Hi My HP Pavillion is about 4 years old. It's noisy and I'm getting an error 90B (fans have failed) when I switch it on first time (when I switch it on 2nd time I never get this warning and it seems to function OK). It's been like this for about a month but I know it's not long for this world, so I want to purchase a new one. I have tried blowing air in to loosen up the fans, but taking it apart seems the only way to fix this - and frankly I think I'll cause more damage. So a new one it is. I only use my laptop for general internet, emails, watching movies, youtube etc. Nothing pushes it too much. Just FM with 5 leagues running and about 40K players, 3D match engine etc. - it gets hot and is noisy (grrr, grrr, grrr etc. Driving me mad!) So imagine money was no object and I needed a PC to comfortably run FM and not much else that was particularly CPU intensive, and more importantly, did it quietly. What would be the recommendations from the experts here? Appreciate some guidance. (Don't want a Mac btw) I live in Sweden by the way and UK and US laptop nomenclature (numbers) are not the same territory to territory so links would be good if that's possible so I can find out the equivalent Swedish model.... I've got a similar one, the GS60 2PC. I'd say the only downside is probably battery life, but yeah, it's a very good machine to run FM. Think I will buy it...heard some bad reviews about windows 8 and with windows 10 out soon I was reluctant to buy but having to consider no FM2015 til end of July is killing me... Neil when you say battery life...how short are we talking? I'm sat near a charger plug 99% of the time and anything over 1hour without being charged I'd be fine with. Sorry for sounding dumb but I'm assuming things like Microsoft word etc will run just as we'll with a gaming laptop? Thanks. Edit: bought
Smurf
If it's plugged in 99% of the time you don't need to worry about battery life. Batteries come in 6 cell and 9 cell, the latter being the battery that lasts longer, but only applies when it's not plugged in. Nothing wrong with Windows 8 except the hideous Tile layout, which can be turned off and use the same as it looks in Windows 7. Glad you bought! It's a rocking laptop. Guest
Are Microsoft still planning to give all Windows 7 & 8 users a free upgrade to the Windows 10? Should alleviate any concerns about using W8.
Smurf
Yes, you can update from Windows 7 or Windows 8 and Windows 8 Tablet to Windows 10 for free - as long as it's within 1 year of the release of Windows 10. And something really strange, they're even willing to give Windows 10 to everyone with those versions, even if their current copy of Windows is pirated. There really shouldn't be any concerns using Windows 8 - it's usually just hogwash from people not familiar with the system or have read a napkin that their uncles dog wrote a review on Windows 8. More here about the versions of Windows 7 and 8 that are excluded - plus some info on hardware required etc. http://www.pcworld.com/article/2873214/windows-10-will-be-a-free-upgrade-for-windows-7-and-8-users.html

Guest
Before you even consider a new purchase just give your current laptop a clean out with a can of air, an increase in noise could be simply down to a build up of dust that is forcing the the cooling fans to kick into a higher rpm much earlier & more frequently than would normally be expected. Kaarto
Hello, this isn't laptop related, but more of a general question about the running the game. I have a low end PC (runs 3D on low with fine FPS) and I'm happy with how it runs FM. I have NEVER experienced a crash/crash dump/anything on both FM's I've played, 14 and 15. But I see that others have issues with crash dumps/crashes/whatever. I'm looking at upgrading to a fully fledged gaming PC soon, for other games. Is it possible that with the move over to a higher powered system I could be opening myself up to experiencing crash dumps/etc. like others do compared to experiencing none in 100's of hours gameplay on my current PC? Or will performance only get better the higher the performance of my PC. Really enjoy my current crash-less experience and don't want to start making 87 rolling saves every 10 minutes I play. Thanks for any help.

Smurf
Yeh it's quite pricey but would be well built and quieter, the thermal paste isn't expensive. It's quite a high end processor, hoping that would be able to process more and therefore hopefully not have to churn as much. Your one is about the same price and the processor is a bit slower. But it's quite good all the same.
Guest
Passmark ranks the i7-4710HQ at 179 & the i5 4340M in 334, lower of course being being better. The i7 is a quad core that uses HT to create a virtual 8 core cpu whereas the i5 is a dual core with HT to create a virtual quad core which is important for FM, the base & T/B frequencies are much less important & when comparing two cpu's with different core numbers & it is not a comparison that should be made when the frequency values are so close.
Smurf
I agree the i7 Quad Core is a better processor, marginally. It's too close to call. In essence when using all cores in either it will be about 3.3gz at boost speeds. The base speeds are too far a part for me to be happy with the i7, I'd prefer the i5 as it has a faster base speed. This is about finding a quiet computer, not the best processor. The i5 processor is pretty decent processor for FM.

I know the Core M isn't really suited for gaming, but will it work..? Don't know who told you that? It's the M processor stands for Mobile, and MQ stands for Mobile Quad Core. There can be very good Mobile Processors out there, you just have to research them. And there's the MX edition which is Mobile Extreme. And there's the Mobile processor under HQ definitions, which is a mobile processor with High Quality Graphics. Desktop processors are listed under K, R, S, T - (Unlocked, BGA1364 high quality graphics, Performance optimised, and the last one is Power Optimised). yeah about finding a quiet laptop that will run FM without any troublewould there be a lot of difference if the budget were £600 instead of £1000? are the extra money spend value for money? Smurf
PC Specialists are very good. But most come with a warranty for at least a year, and you can buy a longer warranty. The websites don't do after sales technical help. You'll need your warranty and serial number and contact the manufactures of the computer. The only thing the sales websites would help with is delivery or anything wrong when it was delivered.
IJ Reilly
I'm wondering how much in game difference an ssd would make over a 7200rpm hdd. I know the loading and saving would be greatly improved, but what about the standard progress wait time? I would think there is at least some reading and writing going on there. Basically I'm trying to decide if all else is equal what in game improvement a ssd will have. Has anyone swapped out one for the other on the same machine, what was the verdict?
Smurf
It will have a marginal difference to the game speed as it's a processor intensive game, a good fast processor is where the money should be spent. RAM is next, 8gb or more. If you're into 3D matches then a mid-range to high end graphics card If not you can ditch the graphics card and put more money towards the processor. SSD will improve load and save times, but won't help with in game progression, much.
Smurf
Just an update for anyone who has asked this question. I've been playing FM on a work-issued MacBook Pro 13" with retina display for a few month and it plays just fine. The screen is crystal clear and some controls are strange but manageable. The only weak point is the small hard drive which makes putting in custom graphics a difficult proposition. I would say that the game lasts for a good few hours on battery so it's capable of surviving a train ride or a short plane trip. How many leagues are you running? Size of Database? Career save or just a few short seasons? Which one did you buy? http://www.apple.com/uk/shop/buy-mac/macbook-pro?cid=oas-emeia-domains-apple.co.uk I presume the 128gb model as you reference not a lot of space on the drive?
