It's ok - it has a good graphics card, so running 3d in high detail would be good.

In terms of leagues/database size, the question is ambiguous, stick to a few nations/leagues and a medium database.

Start at the recommended setting and see how it goes.

Hi!

I have browsed through almost all of this excellent thread and I must thank all of you and especially Eugene who have informed me a lot. At the end I bought an Asus laptop. After I started up FM15 and chose how many leagues I would like to run I got a bit confused and disappointed. I hade thought that I would be able to run many more leagues and use a larger database of players than the star rating of the game told me. I chose to run 11 different nations with two divisions in each, three in some. The database consisted of about 57000 players. The star rating was 2.5 when I had chosen these settings. The star rating of the graphic card was 3,5 and I had hoped for better here too.

I would be thankful if Eugene or someone else could enlighten me if this is what to be expected from this laptop or if there is something wrong with the processors and also the graphic card.

This is the laptop that I bought yesterday here in Sweden:

ASUS ROG G551JM

Intel Core i7, 4710HQ (4 cores)

2,5 GHz, (Turbo upp till 3,5 GHz)

12GB SO-DIMM DDR3L, 1600Mhz

SSD 256 GB

Thanks Anders. With your post, I made some research and finally came to a decision that I will build my own PC instead of buying a gaming laptop. I currently have macbook pro and I want to fully upgrade my football manager experience. If buying an expensive laptop will give me minimal upgrade, I'd rather buy a gaming PC to get maximum experience. I'm planning to buy an expensive laptop but I decided I'll go for a PC.

That seems to be a good decision, Zlatan. I love this laptop but if you want to get a lot more out of FM regarding how many leagues you can run and size of database players maybe you need to spend your money on something else than a laptop.

Still, I want to hear what Eugene's opinion is on this or if more people could comment.

What was your previous old macbook specs?

Do you run game from battery or from power supply?

Are you sure that laptop uses nvidia card while playing game and not integrated graphic card if only it shows 3,5 stars on 3d match?

I have a limited idea of what a computer actually is. I do have a budget of £800. Mainly to use for games, office, GIS, internet etc. If anyone can help me, it would be much appreciated. (Not a laptop).

I have a budget of £1000 (roughly) to buy a laptop. I currently live in Brazil but got a scholarship to study in London for one year. Since I'm moving in 6 weeks, I'm browsing laptops in the British websites of HP, Dell and Acer. It would be great if you could recommend another manufacturer, I don't know much about laptops. After browsing a bit, I came over 4 models:

- Dell Inspiron 15 7000-Series: Intel Core i7-55000U, 16 GB RAM, 256 GB SSD, AMD Radeon R7 M270 4GB DDR3;

- ASUS G551JW-CN080H ROG: Intel Core i7-4720HQ, 12 GB RAM, 1 TB HDD, GeForce GTX960 2GB DDR3;

- Acer Aspire V Nitro Black Edition VN7-591G: Intel Core i7-4720HQ, 12 GB RAM, 2 TB HDD/60 GB SSD, GeForce GTX960M 2GB DDR3;

I like to load a lot of leagues/players and I do not have the option of buying a desktop. If there's a better setup I could buy for £1000, any suggestion is welcome.

I presume the 128gb model as you reference not a lot of space on the drive?

I have the one in the middle, with the 256GB drive. I'm used to something a lot bigger so I'm still working out a workflow for storage. Have played five-ish seasons without it slowing down much. Loaded big 5 leagues all three leagues down, plus watching about another dozen, on a large database.

I'm needing a new laptop as my old one has been slowing up for a while. I'd been putting off buying one due to the cost, but now the 'm' key and up and down arrows have stopped working! I've got around this for now by remapping them to rarely used keys, but I need to get a new one.

I'm not looking for anything really spectacular, but would want decent perfomance. My saves tend to last around 10 years at the most. My budget is about £450ish and with a student discount I can get the above one for about £420. Is there anything obvious for around the same price that would be better?

No idea about the suitability of the PC, but have never had a problem personally with ebuyer, the one to avoid is definitely ebay.

I'm looking at using PC Specialist or Scan.co.uk 3XS systems, has anyone here had any experience with either company?

Cube has also been on the list but I'm not reading good things about their after sales if something goes wrong.

My wife just confirmed that she will give me $1400 USD as a birthday gift to build the cpu I want, just to meet my football manager needs. Just for the cpu, what specs should I get? I really want to play many countries, leagues and large database of players. For me, that is fun.

are you actually building a desktop?

or are you buying a desktop from the store?

big difference in what you're looking at here

also, for FM, it's fairly processor-intensive

but for other games (not sure if you play any) then it's the graphics that you need to use

Building a desktop. I can buy the parts here and build it. I just want to know what parts to buy for $1400

I had to abandon the FM series for quite a while because my PC was waaaay too slow to run it properly. Finally, I got some money and the other day I ordered new parts for a complete upgrade of my system.

Some of the parts include the new Skylake i7-6700k 4.0Ghz (Overclockable to I don't know how much) processor with 8GB of 3200MHz DDR4 Ram, a new SSD and an MSI GTX 970 Gaming 4G (although I'm pretty sure FM isn't one of those games that requires a top of the line GPU) graphics card.

Now since it's been soooo long, I was wondering what this baby will be able to do, because I have absolutely no clue how demanding the game has becoming when going many, many season with multiple leagues playable.

Unless anyone has those specs, any sense of "how it'll do" will probably not be representative. You could maybe do it by looking at this topic. Find out the banchmark score for your processor, and some of the processors that we have FM benchmarks for, and then you'll have a good idea of how long that particular situation will take to process. Should give you some idea of what it's capable of.

Beyond that...well, it's a top of the line processor. It'll be pretty good. How good is probably subjective, and depends on what you consider slow. Unless you go crazy with leagues, it should nip along nicely.

It's a phenomenal setup there.

I don't think you'll have that many issues. It's a 4ghz processor and it'll overclock.

I'd be interested in knowing how well it does :)

So 2 questions:

1. Is the better processor worth the extra money as €800 is stretching beyond my initial budget.

2. I'm aware the graphics card isn't great but this wouldn't bother me with FM as long as I can play matches in 3D at any quality. I would like to still be able to play some other games though, nothing too intensive as I mainly use a console for gaming. Thinking of games like Age of Empires, Xcom & The Sims. Would the 820m be able to play these games at low-medium quality without much issue?

Well pretty annoyed, bought myself a MacBook Pro Retina 2014 and before every game on High graphics it crash dumps! So I'm selling the MacBook and buying myself a laptop. Here are the options, are they adequate?

Who would actually buy that? Obviously someone, but for 1800 you could easily build an equivalent desktop surely, with change left over to put ridiculous go-faster stripes and LEDs all over it. You may as well, as buying a laptop like that with such a low battery life and - I presume - it weighing as much as several large horses, you lose all the things that make a laptop a laptop.

I'm not going to go into a debate on that. I was merely giving the answer to anyone that wonders: What is the best possible laptop to play FM on? And that machine (or it's 17 inch big brother) is the answer to that - judged purely on processing power. All the other bits are totally overkill for FM. You have no use of 32 GB of RAM for FM, and no use of a GTX 980M to run FM's 3D graphics smoothly. The processor though will make FM run as fast as it possibly can on a laptop. And as fast as a top spec'd desktop system. And there's no other laptop with that processing power on the market, as far as I'm aware of.

I'll leave the question about who's going to buy it up to the individual. Not many will buy it, but some will. Probably because (A): they can afford it, and (B): they can appreciate the power of a top class desktop system, but in a package that is much more practical than a desktop system if you want to move it elsewhere, and have that computing power ready when you get to the next point where you can plug it into the grid. It is obviously not a machine that you'd want to use much on the move. It's in the DTR (DeskTop Replacement) class of laptops - more like a portable desktop system than something you'd actually want to use on your lap.

Yeah, hope you didn't think I was personally directing that at you like you were going to buy it. Wasn't meant that way. And of course, you're going to get someone that wants to buy it - fair play to them. Just never quite understood the really top-end laptops for gaming specifically, when a lot of people will just treat it as a desktop.

I'm just bitter that my new work laptop - which is completely locked down, and can't have anything of mine installed on it - is an absolute beast. Seriously, must've spent a ridiculous amount on it, and it still lags with all the rubbish they have on it...

I'm actually contemplating buying it :) Not just for FM, mind. There's other uses for a high spec'd system than just gaming. And for me, a portable desktop is just what I need.

Oh, and I already own one of the earlier incarnations of that Clevo beast. With a first generation "desktop" Core i7 in it. It's 6 years old now, and just now are the very best of the "proper" laptop processors catching up with it. But it has been a steady and sturdy companion in all of those 6 years. And with FM, I play with all leagues, and some 160.ooo players loaded in at the start. The speed is ok for me.

Fair enough :) Just my personal opinion on it. I certainly wouldn't be unhappy if I was gifted one, just would never spend that much. Or be allowed to. Let's just keep it at the first one.

Hi!

I am about to buy a Macbook Air and I would be grateful if you could enlighten me on how it will work? Me and my wife agree on buying a Macbook Air since we think it would suit us. The only game I will play on it is Football Manager and I am curious if it wil run well and if the Graphics card will be enough? I would apprecialte a lot if some of you will advise me.

There is also a cheapier alternative that has:

This alternative is about £250 cheaper.

That depends on what you mean by "run well". As always, it depends on how big a database (how many Players and staff) and the amount of leagues in play. The Air is able to play FM 2015. But the game progresses slower the bigger the database and number of leagues you choose to play with. You have enough RAM.

As for graphics, HD 6000 will play FM's 3D graphics too, maybe not fluidly on the "high" setting though.

Edit: Obviously, your second alternative will be weaker; the processor will struggle sooner with processing at a reasonable speed as you up the database and leagues amount. And 4 GB RAM is a minimum amount of RAM, specially if you want to do other tasks than FM at the same time.

Was needing a new laptop so have settled for this, it was £800 but PC World have an offer on where you get 10% back 21 days later so it has cost me £720.. Im guessing this is aqeduate for FM?

Yes, it will. However; only you can decide if the speed your game will progress from one day to the next will be fast enough for you. There's no easy or definitive answer.

This is provided the specifics for FM 2016 does not dramatically change from that of FM 2015, of course.

I have monitored this thread on and off for a couple of years, alas I am not in a position to come in from the cold and buy a new laptop that will play FM. Unfortunately what I know about computers can be written on the back of a stamp.

Ideally I would like to be able to run 10-12 leagues in full and have players loaded from another 5 leagues, Ideally I won't really go above £600. I've seen these badboys recommended- which would be the best or is there better for my money elsewhere?

Thought i had already posted (?) can't even do that so heaven help me with purchasing a new laptop...

I've a budget of about £600 would ideally like to play 12 leagues load up players from 5 or so countries and be able to play at a quick processing pace. I've only had use of my work laptop for the last 3 years so am a lot out of the loop regards purchasing laptops and specs etc, rather overwhelmed by it all to be honest.

I've seen three laptops- Are they any good- is cube any good- never heard of them? And is better available at in and around by budget or less?

all help appreciated, I'm desperate to get back into the game!
