So.. Lenovo vs Zoostorm lappy's....

Cpu : Zoostorm kicks the Lenovo's arse in every category despite being older apart from power consumption (see: battery life)

The only other reason I could see for going with the Lenovo, is having a more established brand and the fact it comes with a solid state hybrid drive, which will be slightly faster in terms of loading times etc than the zoostorm.

(graphics cards... not much point talking about them as it makes next to no difference regarding FM etc)

Which while really similar, is £100 cheaper and only about 10% slower in real world terms.. the graphics card isn't great either but for FM it's all good...

On a basic Level between the Zoostorm & Lenovo what would you choose, Cashback on the Lenovo i posted can amount to £200(£100 trade In & £100 what appears just straight cashback)?

No more options as im getting fed up myself now of looking at different Laptops so really appreciate your help as its not even for you, So which of the Lenovo and Zoostorm would you go for?

For me, the Lenovo, better build quality over all, although not hugely, I like the hybrid drive and the difference in performance between cpu's isn't large enough to warrant missing out on the potential cash back.

Was thinking of getting this as a lightweight travel/living room laptop now I have a desktop PC rather than a large laptop

It's an ultrabook cpu, so they aren't designed for applications as intensive as FM .. they are low frequency too, which means even though they boost up to 2GHZ, that will degrade super fast playing FM..

I wouldn't go anywhere near it for FM.

I've got a monitor, mouse, keyboard and OS (so long as I can find my product key...). Currently running AMD Athlon II X4 640 Processor 3.0GHz, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 560, 8GB RAM. The case is old and battered, whole thing sounds like a plane taking off and is incredibly slow upon startup. Gets louder and louder whilst playing games.

Toying with the idea of a completely new build vs replacing older parts. How much of an impact does an older harddrive have on the overall speed, thinking that could be part of the issue?

It can be a bottleneck just like anything else, but less so than most components tbh, that being said, storage is so damn cheap now, it would be silly not to upgrade it.

As for the build, honestly, when you have that much budget and don't need and OS, monitor etc, you have all the choice in the world. There are dozens of builds we could throw together but at the end of the day, the best thing to do is look into what you want to do with it yourself, and research. Start with the CPU, get yourself a future proof compatible Mobo and build from there with some decent speed ram, 8 GB minimum, graphics card etc.

When it comes to CPU and motherboards I have no idea what I'm looking for. Graphics card wise I'm pretty sure I'll be going for a GTX 970, no point going higher as I only have a 1080p monitor.

Unplug and take off the case and buy a can of compressed air - about £5 and spray all the components.

Don't touch off anything though - with hands or anything else.

Any MacBook Pro 2015 retina 13" users?

Looking at getting one for Christmas. I know it's gonna be absolutely fine but curious as to how it runs with a LOT of leagues etc.

My 2013 model handles it perfectly but my brand new 2015 machine is full of bugs. Reported them all here so hopefully all fixed before the official release date otherwise I've wasted my money this year.

The one above is pretty good, it would certainly cover your needs for FM, although if you are buying one mainly for FM and not really anything other pressing, you would do better concentrating on a different laptop without the convertible screen. Having said that.. a touchscreen laptop with a convertible screen might be perfect for FM and make it portable when needed.

As always, it all comes down to a matter of choice, when you spend money like this, I always think it's important to understand your own needs and cater for that rather than take blind suggestions from strangers on the internet :)

No MacBook Pro 2015 model. I've reported everything to the bugs forum and uploaded system reports and screen shares to the FTP so hopefully all the bugs, or at least the serious ones, will be fixed within a week.

Yeah I am able to build myself so no issue on construction. Thanks for the input, I'm probably going to opt against a SSD to start with as I'd rather the space primarily. What is it you should look for in a processor though? I always believed it was Speed and cores, in which I thought my current one would be standing me in better stead than it is currently.

Speed and cores yes, but architecture improves so does efficiency and speed..

Generally speaking, I prefer intel over amd currently and you're looking at i5 or i7's .. i7's generally are considered better in most cases..

Basically, all you need to do is get on google and research them within your budget.

Is anyone playing on i5 4670 or 4690? Any recommendations on number of leagues/players? Choosing the same amount of leagues and db size as I did in FM13 on Q6600 with 4gb of RAM shows estimated game speed as 3 stars (on Q6600 it was 2 stars iirc). Quite disappointing.

Welshace, I've been reading this thread for a while and your advice to users like myself, who are considering a new laptop, is really valuable. If I can chime in with a question too, do you know if the laptop you linked above would be good for Photoshop and Lightroom too? They plus FM16 would be the main uses of my next laptop and I'm hoping to find something in this sort of budget that could handle both. Obviously I would need a good quality screen as well as processing power, and wondered if you've come across a laptop that would do a good job for me?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

I mostly link to 15.6 inch screens as it's probably the most widely used at a budget..

It would depend on what you want to do with those programs.. to clarify, I mean, general photoshop work isn't that intensive, but when you take into account image editing and processing, you'd ideally want a very decent screen, a decent graphics card and a good SSD (as you are usually calling 100's if not 1000's of high res image files into and out of PS).

So for image editing/processing you are looking at a more specialised laptop. That being said, the same things that make a laptop great for image editing will also be great for FM.

So as with everything it would depend on budget, baring in mind you might be paying extra for the functionality to image process efficiently.

Loaded up 28 leagues with large database and the gameplay is very smooth, at least comparing to my old i3 2350M with 8 GB RAM.

The GPU is obviously more than enough to run matches in 3D on max. details.

I do not think a lot of people play with so many leagues thus I can recommend this specs for FM16, perhaps even with inferior GPU.

Hi there folks looking for some help regarding a laptop from you people in the know out there, I've been a fan of fm for many a years unfortunately because of family and work commitments over last few years I've not played fm, anyway I'm looking to go purchase fm16 problem being I've no laptop! My budgets around 500 maybe 600. Any recommendations would be very much appreciated.

Yeah, this is a great point btw... the specs people are getting are usually over kill for FM, this is why setting a reasonable budget is important and letting people know how you expect it to perform.. could save you £100's :)

I'm looking at buying the asus zenbook ux305 ultrabook, but unsure whether it could handle just 5 countries playing. It has a dual core Intel M-5Y10 processor with 8gig ram. It's currently £500 and would be ideal for out and about due to size and weight but would like to know if it could handle fm16.

Any advice would be appreciated
